Review:
Highly acclaimed by the heads and criminally underrated by the masses, Amit makes a bold statement of intent with the follow up to Never Ending (his '06 album) on Klute's Commerical Suicide imprint. Fusing a multitude of musical influences, this cinematic panorama of one of D&B's more interesting characters seamlessly blends genres and styles with vocal samples, poetry, interludes and textured atmospherics. From the opening "Lullaby" through the tough, gritty "Pripryat", the politically charged "Doomed Youth" and "Social Dilemma", the pumping techno-infused "Bloxit", the haunting melancholy of "My Own Way Home" and beyond, the tracks are layered, multifarious and deeply intriguing. Get to know.

Review:
British D&B producer Amit does it by halves on this latest full-length long player. With a huge fondness for half-step D&B beats, Amit keeps things intense, moody and grimey throughout this album, with beautiful chiming atmospherics working well with the resolutely non jump-up beats on tunes like "Immortal" or "Live In India". An album that succeeds in creating its own unique mood and feel, "Never Ending" is a fascinating step away from the D&B mainstream.

Bristol-based Break presents the next album from Commercial Suicide, the label run by acclaimed D&B/techno artist Klute. Throughout the thirteen-track selection we have such highlights as the dark, understated roller "Ringing Ears", heavier-than-thou techy number "Pression", classic Break cut "Desting Comes Ringing", plus a couple of top notch collabs with Silent Witness ("Trippy" and "Rain Man"). The follow up from his superlative album Resistance, this makes for an essential listen for hardened Break fans as well as newcomers, as he touches on the hard, the heavy and the techy, with some Amen moments in there to boot.

Chroma delivers a couple of bangers on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint, which are well deserve a listen. Kicking off with the title track "Ricochet", this one builds from a squeaky synth, metallic-sounding beats into the main tune which trembles along for the duration with echoing vocal snippets and a low-slung b-line rumbling below. "Always Be" is another mournful one with foghorn like below, curious atmospherics and sorrowful piano keys.

Commercial Suicide are one of those labels you just buy on sight. Given the consistent quality of their past releases time and again, Klute has picked up yet another insane slice of drum and bass from the low end of beyond. Kiev-based producer Detail has already created offbeat bass terrorisers on C.I.A and Proximity, and as we'd hoped, this release doesn't hold back. "Exhaustion" is a demented, twisted trip; think Noisia and Misanthrop at their most playful and you're halfway there. Add ice cold frightfest "Resonance" to the picture and you have here a perfect example of drum and bass running as far from the accepted social norms as possible. Worth your money, worth your time, definitely worth scaring the neighbours with.

Two hot, up-and-coming producers join forces here on the title track of this release on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. Foreign Concept, who's been making his mark on Critical of late, meets Anile, famed for his releases on Med School's "New Blood" and "Blood Pressure" compilations. "True Enemies" is a merciless slice of bass-heavy D&B, with tech-ed up drums, glowering sub bass and grinding warps and stabs adding even more power to the piece. The accompaniment "Straights" sees Anile goes solo for what is a very well considered piece, with gentle pattering breaks, lilting melody and oodles of laid back allure. A great release here - highly recommended.

Ill Skillz dominates this four track EP on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. Teaming up with the Brazilian superstar S.P.Y for "This Is Why", it's off to a moody, murky start with a whirring bassline and muffled lyrics, before moving on to "Moonwalker", a tense but superbly executed tech-ed up roller. Then on to the Ill Skillz remix of Klute - "Tranceformat" - a suitably trancey-dancey venture - and finally, a pumping, crackling re-work of Concord Dawn. Enormous.

Label chief Klute returns to his Commercial Suicide imprint with two new instrumental slabs dripping with understated groove. The title track "Scooter" is our pick of the bunch, a gentle but insistent bassline holding firm amid a lavish array of percussion. Up next is the decidedly grubby thrills of "Party Hands", which, although still subtle, packs more of a sonic punch than its mellow flipside counterpart. This one is already a firm fave in the record bags of Marcus Intalex, London Elektricty, Nu Tone & Logistics - don't sleep!

Marking the next release on Commerical Suicide, label boss Klute get remixed by two super strong producers fresh for spring 2012. First up is Bournemouth based duo Ulterior Motive's interpretation of the original; as always they impress with their razor sharp snares, enormous basslines and pulsing energy and manage to fill the track with an ominous withheld menace. Accompanying this is Nymfo's re-lick of "Resolve", which is all frantic rolling percussion, spooky, spaced out SFX and eerie mid-way breakdowns. A killer couple of cuts here - watch out.

Stepping up for a collaborative release on his own label, Commercial Suicide, Klute joins forces with the ever-impressive darkside soldier Prolix and the result is a great one. "Keep It Simple" is all intricate melodies, tapping beats and throbbing bass with plenty of punch in the long build-ups and weighty drops. Watch out for this one - it's a killer. "Friendless" - its darker accompaniment - is possibly an even stronger track, with an eerie intro, rattling breaks and tremendous drop with an Ed Rush & Optical style pounding bass, groaning subs and thunderous applause.

As we near the end of 2012, it's the time for labels to look back and reflect on their achievements and so Klute looks back on the resounding successes of his Commercial Suicide imprint and brings us the excellently entitled "Commercial Suicide Is Painless Vol 1" album. Featuring tracks from the likes of Gridlok, Chroma, Ulterior Motive, Nymfo & Black Sun Empire, Foreign Concept & Anile and many more, it's a veritable feast for any hardcore D&B head. Opening with the awesome toughness of "Tuscan Rider" by Gridlok & Jamal, make sure you check out Ulterior Motive's remix of Klute's "We R The Ones" for added heads down hoods up vibes, plus the rolling outro "Take A Breath VIP". This album comes highly recommended.

We had our appetites well and truly wetted by the sampler and now here it is, the full 14-track "Martian Chronicles" album on Klute's Commercial Suicide label. Prepare yourself for some tough, rough and dirty D&B of the highest order. "Spaceface" traverses the divide between raw, aggressive and industrial with aplomb, whilst elsewhere things get even more ominous in cuts like "Swampster (feat. Chris SU)". "Critters (feat. MC Coppa) is a tear out monster with oodles of dancefloor destruction guaranteed, as is "Warp Zone" with its pumelling beats and grinding bass. Absolutely awesome - we love this one!

Prepare yourselves for this next installment from Commercial Suicide. As the label readies themselves for the release of Mindscape's album the "Martian Chronicles LP", we are given a hint of whats to come in this magnificent sampler. "Stardust" kicks off with an ominous, apocalyptic sci-fi voiceover in a vortex of space and time, progressing through a series of sweeping, celestial atmospherics and pounding beats to the main part of the tune which is full of shuddering bass and grouchy mid range splutters. "Truth Hurts" sees Mindscape team up with the mighty Audio and Stapleton for another exceptional venture full of grinding bass, urban spoken lyrics and aggressive SFX a-plenty. A cracking sampler which bodes well for the LP.

Out on the Commercial Suicide label, two tech-influenced D&B tracks that combine hefty amounts of rumble with a huge amount of jump-up goodness. "Razor Sharp" is a haunted banger that uses a clever array of techy sounds to devastating effect, while "Violator" uses some loose and organic drums to hold down a slinky bass melody that has to be heard to be fully appreciated. For that alone, these are two tracks that demand a listen.

Dutch D&B master Nymfo has had his tunes picked up by RAM, Shogun and Renegade in the past and now he's back with this heavy double tracker on Commercial Suicide. "Matchstick" keeps the beats and the bass in perfect harmony and never crowds the mix - everything is stripped back and focused on getting asses moving. On the flipside, "Bionic Fingers" gets deeper and more glitched out but still has some serious funk to it. Some tasty treats from a producer who's definitely got his eye on the floor.

Holland's biggest name in D&B, Nymfo confidently drops this new EP for Commercial Suicide - a label that has seen Nymfo release jewels that Goldie, Hype, Fabio, Doc Scott and more have gone nuts for in the past. With nine tracks gathered here, we suggest you check out the mangled bass thrills of "Gamma Ray" (written, according to Nymfo, with old Ed Rush and Optical tunes in mind), as well as the silky strings of "Blue Velvet". 2010's "Matchstick" also gets the VIP treatment, as Nymfo adds more swing and a pared-down sound to this tried and tested banger.

With previous releases on more prestigious drum and bass labels than you could shake a stick at, Nymfo has been cooking up a storm since his first producer outings with Icicle back in 2007. Already a highly-respected DJ, he's one of the few 'newer' producers the likes of Friction, Goldie and Teebee shower with praise year on year. This time Klute's got his hands on the man himself to release "Suddenly / Air Jacks" on Commercial Suicide and it doesn't disappoint. "Suddenly" seethes with tension, with big swollen bass and beautiful melodic piano brightening up the whole track. "Air Jacks" turns the flip into a tightly condensed stepper, with punchy kicks and nasty, nasty bass. Claustrophobic in the extreme, if you've not been to a club where this track tears it up, you're not frequenting the right establishments.

The man Phil Tangent has made a name for himself within the drum and bass community for a deep and minimal style, demonstrated with aplomb on recent transmissions for Soul:R and Samurai. Big Phil marks his Commercial Suicide debut in impressive fashion with the two track More Than You'll Ever Know. The lead cut is vintage Tangent, the vast expanses of glacial atmospherics and barely audible female vocals lent some brisk momentum by the regimented steppahs rhythm. "Contrition" is undeniably the ruder of the two productions with a gnarled bass line and frenetic percussion threatening to cause havoc.

Darkside solider Prolix returns to the soundwaves with another momentous release, this time on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. Title track "Saw Head" builds from a tense, cinematic intro full of terse beats and eerie, sweeping atmospherics into a punishing main part with undulating bass, groaning sub bass and razor sharp drums. A midway breakdown adds further moodiness to this dark, menacing slice of madness. Next up is the dancefloor-driven "Funkhole" with its quirky bleepy synths, grinding bass and pumping drum work. It's something of a nod to Renegade Hardware, and finishes the release off magnificently.

Last seen loitering with Dub Phizix, Skeptical returns on Klute's Commercial Suicide with two contrasting examples why he's so well respected in D&B. "Statik" bounces with a delicious triplet swing. Purring with a pirate-like skank it's an instant vibe-caster that conjures a similar spirit to "Disco Dodo" many years ago. "Frozen", meanwhile, is a much darker affair with a warped, pummelling vibe and unashamed sense of techno menace. Brutal.

Soul Intent delivers a couple of stunners on Klute's label, Commercial Suicide. First up is title track "The Right Moves" which builds from a sparse, ticking intro with warping synths wailing like a Joy O track into a well calculated piece of mastery with humming b-line, rolling breaks and plenty of murkiness and blissed out vocal snippets. Accompanying this is "Nod To The Past" which is another excellent slice of D&B badness from Soul Intent, this time on a darker tip with stuttering beats, grinding bass and sped up vocal sampling adding a quirky twist. Gnarly stuff - get to know!

Brazilian born Carlos Lima a.k.a S.P.Y serves up another treat on a split single on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. As the title suggests, "Bulldozer" sees S.P.Y going in on a harder tip, with thudding drums, pounding subs, industrial sounding SFX and ominous vocal sample. Heading up the other side is Dub Phizix with his defiant "Scum" which pairs tense, stuttering beats with eerie, otherworldly SFX and quirky bleeps. Falling into the drop, it develops into a gnarly bassline roller, which just keeps giving. A sterling release here.

Klute's label celebrates a hat-tippingly respectable ten years in the game with this incredible seventeen-track compilation, bringing together superb contributions from the likes of Break, Calibre, SPY, Dom & Roland and the label owner himself, alongside new talent like Seba, Soul Intent, Dose, Trei & Menace and more. Channelling a deep, techy sound for the main, with experimental moments, stand out cuts include Optiv's opener "Midnight Nation" with its grinding bass and pounding drums, Dakosa & Anile's "Settle The Score" with its menacing vocal and terse breaks and Amit's punishing, sub bass soaring "Skull Puncher". A must-buy.
