Review: Having enjoyed his biggest hit to date, "What Happened", via Compost's occasional disco offshoot, John Gazoo returns to Michael Reinboth's label with another restless groover. Like "What Happened" before it, "Midnight Runner" employs some fantastic builds. The Vintage Version is particularly good, slowly building into a disco-house crescendo via rubbery electric bass, spoken vocals and razor-sharp strings. The Second Version offers a touchy-feely, deep house revision, whilst the Cleaned Version puts more emphasis on the deep house groove and killer disco vocal. An excellent EP is rounded off by bonus cut "Next One In The Dark", a boogie-licious deep house excursion that grinds and struts in all the right places.
