Review:
Raised on '80s electro-funk from the likes of D-Train and The Whispers, German producer and former DMC champ Pitchben has brought all of his influences together nicely on this debut album. From the low slung funk of "Keep Giving Me Love", the Daft Punk-flavoured "Friday Night" and the Biggie sampling "Time Machine", this is definitely one for fans of old-school electro soul as well as polished new-jacks like Chromeo.

Review:
For those who love the early '90s synth-disco sound of the Prelude and Solar System labels, Pitchben's 2011 album Pitchslap was a deliriously fun blast from the past. Here, some of the outstanding cuts from that album get remixed. Tiger & Woods provide the best rework of the Whispers-ish "Stand Up", looping up the synths, vocals and grooves in their irresistible style. There's also a fine pair of deeper synth funk/house rubs from New Yorkers Runaway (check, in particular, the Dub), while Sportloto delivers a head-nodding nu-disco take on D-Train cover "Keep Giving Me Love". Finally, there's another chance to check Pitchben's sturdy cover of the Fantastic Aleems' "Get Down Friday Night".

Review:
Cheekily titled outfit Rey & Kjavik have chosen to stay anonymous, despite bagging high profile releases on Kindish/Get Physical and now Compost Black Label. Whoever they are, the three tracks showcased here are pretty tasty. With their shuffling grooves, spoken vocals and touchy-feely midtempo rave synths, "Listen" and "All Alone" sound like icier, atmospheric takes on the Maceo Plex/Visionquest school of deep house - casually cool and loose, but with enough energy to hold a dancefloor. "Disconia", meanwhile, throws in some tactile synths and rush-inducing retro-futurist motifs for an altogether more uplifting listening experience. Impressive stuff; expect more goodness from these guys in coming months.

Review:
After the success of the first volume of Compost's Jazz Selection, Dutch DJ's Rupert & Mennert have dug back into the archives to compile this excellent follow-up. They've surfaced with some serious gems - Marbert Rocel's "Love Me" in particular is an absolute diamond of a song, with such a lyrical bassline and a soul-enhancing organ and vocals combo that could easily charm the paint off the walls. Elsewhere, more modern bop comes courtesy of Salvador Group's jazz-drum fest "Crosswinds" while Mystefy's "Eye Candy" demonstrates true mastery of a laidback piano style not heard since Ramsey Lewis.
