Californian bass crusader makes himself known on DNDD with four heavyweight cuts. "Midnight Wax" soundtracks a paranoid graveyard prowl, all shadows and owl hoots. "Secret Society" is a harmonically fine-tuned stepper that's tailored for the biggest of rigs while "White Magic" blows cosmic pipe wind into our third eyes with total dubspace satisfaction and "Kula Kula" takes us deep into the north African deserts with immense and foreboding results. Remix-wise Caidance adds layers of hazy mystical atmospheres while The Widdler fazes out the vocal and remoulds our attention to the drums. Debuts don't come much stronger than this.
Dubstep marathon men Requake return to their familiar haunt Dank N Dirty Dubz with another superb exercise in deep rolling bass grooves. Each cut running and splashing with some crisp organic feeling drum work, "Endurance" plays with the halfstep arrangement with a perkiness in the hi-hats and dubby synth flutters, "Groundless" takes more of a UKG approach with its momentum gathering kicks while the bass groans are pure gutter. Finally "Jardin Bruxel" bids us adieu with a light housey groove that swings with the soul of a Submotion Orchestra join... Until some subtle snarling basses enter at the final approach. Beautiful.
US dubstep lifer The Widdler backs up 2013's star-bathing deep roller "Lost In Space Part 2" with two additional slices of fresh grit. "Acheri" is a gritty halftime cut spiked with a cocktail of twisted, trippy sounds and processes while "Harrington" travels the saw-toothed path with an ever-mutating paranoid bassline that grizzles like a teething lion cub... And bites twice as hard.
