Review: Loco Dice's label hits the target again with another drum-heavy dance floor release. "Press For Two", which features Ricky Erre Love on vocals, strikes a balance between supernatural synths and brassy flourishes - the latter sounding reminiscent of Villalobos - and a dense, drummy workout. On "Exesos (Version 1)", tumbling, tribal beats prevail, while the second take is looser and more colourful, with a sexy vocal sample and whooshing dubby effects to the fore. Yet despite these strong tracks, the most powerful statement of Desolat's ability to put out unique drummy grooves occurs on the title track, where a droning bass is the main feature.

Review: Chile's Aldo Cadiz has a number of releases under his belt, but this appearance on Loco Dice's Desolat will win him further recognition. Certainly, Cadiz's sound will appeal to those DJs who operate at the edges of the house-techno border. The title track is a playful, drum-heavy groove with enough features - vocal snippets and one-note stabs - to set it apart from the deluge of tribal banality. He repeats this approach on "Side Off", but it's "Recall Me" that will win him most acclaim. Over a bubbling, rolling groove, he drops a demented brass sequence that makes him sound like Ricardo Villalobos' older, crazier brother. And that's a good thing!

Review: The giddy helium-style vocals on the latest Desolat release are a far cry from the pitched down vocal samples that used to pervade mnml. However, when it comes to the groove, not too much has changed. The beats are dubbier and the rhythm has a more off-beat feeling, but the reverberating effects and sweeping filters show that the old tricks are often the best ones. On "You Know What I Want", the vocals are playful and daft, while the microscopic beats and bleeps, coupled with a dubby shuffling rhythm, sound more contemporary, like Mathew Dear's False project jamming with Dan Bell and Horizontal Ground. It's weird, unexpected and strangely wonderful.

Review: Wherein the German producer takes us through the many facets of his sound for Loco Dice's label. "Big Top" is a dense, drummy affair, but just when the listener thinks that they're facing into a never-ending tool track, eerie synths and tape hiss appear to divert one's attention. The same logic applies to "Damdamm"; starting life as a tracky groove, it progresses to reveal a searing bassline and offbeat, clanging bells. "Under Control" comes closest to the tool formula, with its dense rhythm housing a repetitive vocal, but it's only a minor digression and soon enough, Grub is back defying expectations with the 'it began in Africa' sample and droning bass of "Karibu".

Review: Basti Grub has built himself a reputation for high quality, energetic and Latin infused releases. "Me Sabe A Porro", his first drop on Desolat is no different, offering four tracks of club ridden, funky movers. The title track - which also features Aldo Cadiz - sees funky percussion merged into a brass band-led, jazzy workout. "Willbefine" is highly hypnotic before the driving, dubby feel of "Ohr Batch Im Kongo". Cadiz features again on rolling, funk inspired "Eleccion" before "Everything is Perfect" finishes the release in a merry, fun filled techno spirit.

Review: Benny Rodrigues is a diverse talent and on this debut release for Loco Dice's label, he shows why he is so highly regarded. "Funky Drummer" starts the release off with heavy, rooling drums and a filtered vocal, a near perfect DJ tool. "Hit the Bass Jack" is of a similar disposition but faster and containing an insistent chord stab that acts as the central hook. On "Momentum", Rodrigues shows a more sensual side to his production with a walking funk bassline and female vocal samples prevailing. It's but a short interlude and soon afterwards he's dropping acid-filled bombs - "Too Much Information" - and the effective cut-ups of "Curry's".

Review: The title track is in keeping with Desolat's trademark sound, with a loose, rolling groove and a robotic vocal sample making for a seamless blend of the organic and electronic. However, Bimas changes tact on the rest of the release. "Never Say Goodbye" is a more tracky affair, its rolling groove propelled by merciless snare rolls and a vocal sample that veers from muffled to squeaky as the arrangement progresses. "Post The Music" has a similar approach, with its tribal beats underpinning a ponderous vocal and sounding like vintage Trevor Rockliffe material form the late 90s. Hector's stripped back take on "Pain Of Our Life" completes the package.

Review: Not much has changed in DJ Sneak's inimitable world since he emerged in the mid-90s. He still has a love of sampling catchy piano solos - audible on "Evil Women" - and as most of the tracks on Necessary Evils demonstrate, he does filtered disco house better than anyone else. However, this release for Loco Dice's label also signals that a number of changes are afoot. Apart from the decidedly un-PC track titles - "Beat Some Sense Into You", anyone? - Sneak's production sounds smoother and slicker. The drums and pulsing bass on "Women" are devoid of the rawness that characterised his 90s releases, while "Assault on You" heralds a new-found fascination with techno, as dark chords are combined with an evil rave horn.

Review: Allendes' latest release for Loco Dice's label sees him exploring an individualistic take on tribal house. "The Magician" will grab the listener's attention with its swirling synths, while "Proyecto Gaia", with its dramatic chord sweeps, shows that Allendes isn't just about toolish tracks. That said, there is no shortage of dance floor primed material here; "Ascension 101" sees Allendes drop a disco-led groove, while "El Regreso De Los Abuelos" sees Allendes deliver his masterpiece, an off beat, rumbling groove littered with deranged vocal samples and enough abstract weirdness to ensure that he isn't lumped in with the growing legion of tribal exponents.

Review: Loco Dice's label scores with this tripped out house release. "Chicken From Cosmo" sets the tone for much of the release with its rickety drums and daft vocals riding breezy filters. "Ralf The Dog" is even more out there; starting with the sound of a canine barking, it features a meaty bassline, dark bleeps and a mysterious vocal intoning the phrase 'just a beat'. Apart from these oddities, Allendes & Poletto are also adept at creating more standard club tracks. "Gatto Pushon" is all tribal drums and dense rhythms, while "Lady Sufleta" is a jacking, percussive techno groove powered by a squelchy low end.

Review: With releases on MiniSktech and Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom, it's safe to say that Naples producer Cennamo's star is in the ascent- and this release for Loco Dice's Desolat label will do his reputation no harm. The title track eases the listener in with a gentle house groove based on live drum sounds and spacey riffs. This theme continues on "Dejame Asi", where Cennamo uses ethnic chants and rave whistles to create an old school feel. Musical leanings notwithstanding, Cennamo is also capable of creating dynamic dancefloor grooves, and "Cuando Tu Quieres" is a drummy DJ tool, while the jazz-tinged, tribal house of "We Don't Care" will also have huge DJ appeal.

Review: Naples producer Giuseppe Cennamo leads Desolat down a tribal house route with Dance. "Let Your Love Flow" is a rolling, drum-heavy track, lent a somewhat atmospheric edge by the pitched down vocal sample at its centre. "Don't Move" is more up-tempo, as an insistent vocal snippet seeks to liberate itself from Cennamo's dense arrangement. Elsewhere, a celebratory feeling is to the fore: "Marimba" centres on a rolling arrangement, but its snappy drums and vocal sample, which seems to be intoning 'come on of yeah', lends it an uplifting feeling. Meanwhile, the title track is also based on a rolling groove, and here the spacey vocals, saxophone squeals and rave whistles have devastating effect.

Review: Like Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano, Guti brings Latin American musical influences to bear on his music. Unlike these minimal techno kingpins however, Guti's album doesn't just sample sources. "Una Tarde Con Pedro" and "Al Viento" are mournful piano-led workouts and "My Whole Thing" combines a seductive female vocal with infectious Latino drums. Indeed, while Patio De Juegos does have a dancefloor sensibility, its most rewarding moments occur when Latino influences feature. "Still Here" is a beautifully melancholic, understated groove, "Shame" is underscored by shaking percussion and a snaking bassline and Guti uses infectious piano keys and a sassy rhythm to devastating effect on "All The Girls".

Review: Loco Dice delivers a diverse four-tracker for his Desolat label that harks back to an earlier time without losing his own futuristic sheen. "Retox" is the deepest cut here, with Dice fusing the sun-kissed synths and stoned freak samples of Balearic house with his own stripped back, minimal house grooves. "Neurotox" also harks to the early 90s and could be the German DJ's tribute to the crazy days of the Sound Factory as a rolling groove that deploys a drum loop similar to the one used in Xpress 2's "Muzik Express" to propel the arrangement forward. "Autotox" meanwhile, combines birdsong ambience and wired ravey vocals with a walking bass, while it's only on "Detox" that Dice's stripped back approach comes to the fore.

Review: It's hard to believe that Loco Dice's label has been around for so long - or more surprisingly that it covers so much ground. While much of the label's focus remains on toolish, tribal house, 5 Years also covers deep, chiming house, audible on Yaya's "Our Connection" and the driving, vocal-filled groove of Dice's own "Lolopopinho". Of the tribal-styled tracks, the ones that stand out most are the ponderous vocals of Basti Grub's "Drunk & High" and the intoxicating chants of Francisco Allendes' "Platonic Solid". Yet neither can compare to the acid-filled, rolling snares of Horatio's "How Much 909 Can You Take", which sounds like LFO vs FUSE's "Loop" on acid.

Review: It sounds like German producer Martin Buttrich works in reverse. When the rest of the techno world was making minimal techno, he was releasing full-blooded symphonic tracks like "Full Clip". Now that every second producer is re-discovering his deep house roots, he comes out with Files, which makes a great play of stripped back rhythms. However, this being Buttrich, it's not that simple or limited: "Magic Market" teems with disparate influences, including the plink plonk ambience of Eno and Middle Eastern motifs over a squelchy bassline. Likewise on "Fireball", the rhythms call to mind the analogue funk of Dan Bell and the ominous bass could have been inspired by Neil Landstrumm. As always with Buttrich, expect the unexpected.

Review: Once the torchbearer for minimal house, it seems like Mathias Kaden has since softened his sound - something that's audible on Tentakle. "Pitched" is a dense, rolling groove populated by insistent vocal loops, while "Troija" is more nuanced. Over hyperactive drums, Kaden weaves a web of jazzy textures and melodic flourishes, as complex as a maze. "Demence" meanwhile sees him return to more grounded territory, with a niggling acid line and a vocal sample intoning 'the music' set to a rolling groove. Finally, Kaden completes his reinvention with "Propeller"; centred on a relentless filter, its high-paced, slamming groove is more effective than a warehouse full of hiccupping grooves.

Review: Premiesku deserves praise for delivering Desolat's most diverse release yet. Indeed, the cheeky samples, hip-hop scratches and old school breaks of "Oarecum Astral" aren't the kind of thing one would expect from Loco Dice's label. "O Lozinca" also yields a surprise, with panning percussion and a spacey filter making the underlying jerky rhythm sound like vintage Detroit techno from Stacey Pullen. Even when Premiesku goes down a more familiar route, his approach is markedly different to most minimal-turned-deep housers. The title track is a warm but forceful roller, bolstered by streamlined claps, while "Personificarea Lui Talker" jacks to the sound of classic UK tech-house.

Review: The latest release on Loco Dice's label is inspired by a left of centre take on techno. There are no obvious dance floor tracks on the aptly named Indirect, but despite this, it is full of irresistibly seductive moments. The interplay between the gentle vocal and stripped back, stop-start rhythm on "Discurs Pe Fundal" is one such moment, while on "E Codat", glorious, angelic chords unfold over an understated rhythm. It's also clear that Premiesku is influenced by non-electronic sources, audible on the jazzy "In Mod Indirect" and the rolling drums of "Mecanism Lrg3000" - but the undoubted highlight is the space age groove of "Vag".

Review: Loco Dice's label has discovered a number of talented producers, and they can add Pulshar to that list. "Wasting Time", which features Dice on vocals, isn't a typical stripped back groove, but rather an evocative, downbeat affair, underpinned by dusty beats and tonal bleeps. "So Tired" is in a similar vein, its spacey synths providing the basis for a deeply melancholic vocal performance. Vocals also feature on "Different Drum", but in this instance Pulshar raises the tempo and leads the arrangement into a tranced out, clubby shuffle. However, the overall tone is dubbed out and restrained, with "She's Got A Ticket" impressing most, its dreamy vocals combined with coy glockenspiels to create a unique mood.

Review: Wherein the Israeli producer documents a new direction - Aber has previously flirted with deep house and Basic Channel-style dub techno, but all of these elements come together on Rough Steps. The title track is a drum-heavy groove, its sinewy bass providing the impetus and the dissected vocal samples referencing classic house. "Golly Moses" also features vocals, but this time they are slurred and indistinct with Aber laying down a stuttering rhythm track. "Overture" operates in a similar albeit more extreme field with rolling rhythms supporting churning filters and buzzing riffs. The only exception to Aber's focus on tracky elements comes on "Greys", where summery keys unfold over a US-style house groove.

Review: The latest release on Loco Dice's label has some expected and unexpected moments. TINI does a fine job of delivering all the usual elements that Desolat is known for - organic drums, stripped back rhythms and sassy, shaking percussion - but then adds some less predictable elements. In particular, "All The Good Stuff" tells an entertaining story about a flight getting diverted and "sect for breakfast" over a warm bassy groove and "Blond Galipette" does a neat line in string-soaked seduction as a breathy French vocal seduces the listener. The best moment however is when TINI diverts from the script and delivers the gentle lullaby melodies and offbeat drums of "Someone Loves You".

Review: Following the acclaimed Tini album come these diverse remixes. Carl Craig's take on "My Shine" sees the Detroit veteran in minimal mode, as ominous vocals and dense, hissing percussion are combined with tough techno beats. There are no dramatic strings or epic synth sweeps, just the unflinching repetition of Craig's metronome beats. At the other end of the spectrum is Pulshar's take on "Mine Has A shower", where detached but breathy vocals linger like cigarette smoke over swirling, seductive synths. Finally, Martin Buttrich drops an inspired take on "Blond Galipette". The German producer's drums are sleek and functional, but the French vocal is sensual and flirtatious, making for an alluring combination of the robotic and primal.
