Despite the (scantily clad) ladies that tend to appear on Brooklyn Shanti releases, the identity behind the moniker is actually that of a dude - Brooklyn Bengali MC & producer, Nabin. Intent on fusing hip-hop and Indian cultures, this multi-disciplined artist keeps going from strength to strength. This newie contains two mixes of the downbeat title track "Moner Alo" - the widescreen vibes of the AKS Bollywood mix and the exotic pan pipe-heavy Sonora mix. Also included is the hauntingly evocative "Talking Drum".
This guy has had an extremely tough life, having been born blind and raised without formal education in poverty stricken Sierra Leone. Having struggled to get by as a street musician playing his beloved Kondi instrument, he has survived civil war, rebel assaults, the disappearance of album master tapes and living in a shack on a cliff's edge. He has come through all this to deliver this inspiring nine track album courtesy of forward-thinking world beat music label Dutty Artz. Highlights include the hypnotic "Yu Mama" and the African synth pop of "Salone Tidae".
