Review:
Noted New York noisesmith Alan Licht has long been known as a man prepared to take the humble guitar into the outer realms, and so it is on this turn for Editions Mego. Running distorted squalls of six strings into a mess of electronic interference, this is no easy ride but there's a staggering amount of expression worked into the spluttering notes and ranging chords of Licht's Four Years dichotomy. Rarely resting in one sound for too long, this is far from the laborious patience-rewarding tropes of the noise scene and far more visceral, even as the cranky sonics give way to soothing harmonious passages. It may sound at times like an accidental racket, but anyone with a love of punk and hardcore will find this resonating with them like few other projects in the avant-garde world.

Review:
Some music just doesn't fall into any category, with this current release on the peerless Editions Mego certainly being of that disposition. Proposing a near 40 minutes of disemboweled noises, glitchy static and haunting tonalities, Sweden's BJ Nilsen and Stilluppsteypa create their own world - one which is far from our own. "Goda Nott 1" is a long journey into outer space, with its howling drones and meticulous sonics growing and then dissipating uncontrollably. The second excursion into the ether, "Goda Nott 2", although comparatively brighter than the first segment, still refuses to find its way out of the long and obscure tunnel built by the Swedish duo. Growling melodies and long, polyphonic trips make this release perfectly fit for a Stanley Kubrick film. Captivating noise collections.

Review:
Daniel Menche has been on just about every credible experimental label around, from Jon Wonzencroft's Touch to Antifrost and coming back this time on his regular Editions Mego spot. His productions are complex and brimming with grit, having been an inspiration for countless contemporary artists, both within the field of noise and drone. but also house and techno. His latest amalgamation of sounds comes in a two piece format, each part consisting of almost twenty minutes of madness, starting with "Marriage Of Metals 1", where Menche goes straight in with a bang, propelling his usual blend of metallic power electronics and convoluted background atmospherics. "Marriage Of Metals 2" carries on from its predecessor, this time calming the storm but utilising the same wardrobe of acoustics and sonic accessories.

Review:
The lovely Editions Mego just has definitely delivered the goods in 2012, and to be honest, we're pretty damn excited for this last LP by the wonderful Emeralds. As we'd expected, the record is beautifully diverse and oozing with emotion right from its opener, "Before Your Eyes", a dreamy patchwork of crestfallen melodies which blend fluidly into other utopian synth-hymns such as "Through & Through" and "The Loser Keeps America Clean" - a particularly eerie amalgamation of noises. But the whole affair wouldn't be complete without the spark and zeal of "Adrenochrome", a fast-moving quasi-electro number; or the guitar-shaped rhythms of the title track, "Just To Feel Anything", the key pieces to this enticing puzzle!

Review:
As his sonic identity gets ever more convoluted, Nick 'Ekoplekz' Edwards returns to Editions Mego with a new album of sonic studies that take his madcap dub antics into more friendly terrain where melodic tones can exist in his signal chain without being suppressed by malevolent noise. "Wrekskillz" is positively soothing as lush notes pulse out through delay units and the birds twitter above, and you feel a world away from the bleak decay of traditional Ekoplekz fare. "Wrekfree" does away with such niceties, but there's still a greater sense of restraint at work that continues across the rest of the release even as the morbid vibes return in abundance.

Review:
Roc Jimenez de Cisneros returns to Editions Mego with his group of close collaborators under the Evol moniker - an outfit reserved solely for the most experimental shades of electronic music spanning all corners from noise to techno and musique concrete. Those smart folks over at Mego wrap up the package into a nice, neat ten-tracker including some of Evol's most daring work yet, categorised only as "Proper Headshrinker" 1-10. Evol set the bar high with an initial squelch of synth arpeggiations and move through the same waveform to create a pattern of insistent basslines which somehow morph into their own coherent shape. From faster to more deranged synth manipulations, the group have worked something of a spectacle, insisting on the same sound to paint their vivid, despairing portrayal of electronic music - one that's not immediately perceptible as a specific concept but sure as hell effective on the synapses. Daring and abstract works of fantasy for the brave of heart...

Review:
The notorious "Fa", featured on the classic LP, Hotel Paral.lel by Fennesz gets a welcomed re-edit by the man himself, on Editions Mego. More than 15 years after its release, the track still sounds as fresh as ever - managing to blur the lines between club music and drone psychedelia, but this 2012 reinterpretation adds an extra breath of warmth and subtlety thanks to its extended arrangement. Mark Fell aka Sensate Focus combines a healthy dosage of prophetic vocals and sharp percussion on the (digital) B side, without compromising the original's sparseness and freedom of movement. Spectacular journeys into sound.

Review:
Editions Mego present the first-time collaboration of Giuseppe Ielasi and Kassel Jaeger - a two-part, 40 minute escapade into analogue power electronics and digital dronescapes. "Parallel" sounds like the inside of a train station at rush hour, moulding a multitude of different sound snippets, intricate bundles of noise and sinister acoustics, a real journey into the depths of improvisation. "Grayscale" is less sparse but nonetheless desolate, where a relatively constant pitter-patter of loose kicks chugs its way through gentle synth bleeps and more ominous melodic patchworks. This is noise with a concrete structure, and is another exemplary debut from Editions Mego.

Review:
A member of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, Frech-Swiss Kassel Jaeger's fifth album is an expectedly weird journey through the limits of sound art. The first piece "Campo Del Cielo" was commissioned by Espace Mendes France for a performance at The Planetarium in Poitiers, France, and is derived from field recordings of stones and meteorite resonances, and despite its odd premise is nonetheless an engrossing piece. "Deltas" is much more disorientating, taking what sounds like synthetic birdsong and combining it with all manner of electroacoustic ambience, while "A Guest + A Host" is entirely composed with non-processed sounds made with the legendary Coupigny Modular Synth housed in the Groupe de Recherches Musicales' studios.

Review:
Like many composers working in the field of abstract electronics, Keith Fullerton Whitman has put out a dizzying array of releases over the years. In that time, he's tiptoed between abstract minimalism, ambience and electro-acoustic work. Generators, previously released as a vinyl LP, features recordings of the two final dates of a 2011 tour of the US in which he composed experimental music "on the fly" using a variety of synthesizers and other electronic equipment. For first-timers, it's a challenging and occasionally puzzling listen, but for those schooled in analogue ambience there's much to enjoy. The two 18-minute pieces deal with similar themes, but vary wildly in sound and texture. Both, though, offer a good balance between ghostly ambience, noisenik experimentation and spellbinding atmospherics.

Review:
Occlusions is a typically challenging, improvised take on electronic music from the far too prolific Keith Fullerton Whitman, marking another high note in the unassailable discography of Editions Mego. Both compositional pieces were recorded at festivals in Europe earlier this year (you can hear some Gallic chatter in the background) and allegedly were performed without the aid or consent of pre-recorded or even pre-arranged materials. Fullerton Whitman has attempted to avoid divisible rhythms throughout, and the results of the first composition are reminiscent of Actress's recent sound design set at the Tate Modern as part of the Yayoi Kusama installation. Uncompromising and engaging!

Review:
Kevin Drumm has never been afraid of conjuring relentless doses of synth-kissed noise drones - he's appeared on various labels including the recently spawned Hospital Productions and more established noise outfits such as Aaron Dilloway's Hanson Records. Relief is nothing short of terrifying and right from its first segment, "Part 1", a merciless collection of hollow frequencies and frenetic white noise mask the swallowed melodies within its core. "Part 2" is a continuation of the same process, a meticulous experimentation of disembowelled feedback and modular static. "Part 3" is Drumm's most epic moment on the LP; the previously subdued tones are propelled into motion and produce a clearly audible guitar riff amidst its wild but equally outstanding chaos. A must for the true noise enthusiasts out there!
