Review:
Following their debut album "We Are To Answer", production duo Ancient Astronauts look like their getting even hotter if this new EP is anything to go by. Lead single "Put Em Up" is something that true-school hip-hop heads will go crazy for, thanks to the superior rhymes of rapper Raashan Ahmad and some phat and punchy live drums.
As Ahmad says "ain't nothing like hip-hop music" - fans of any classic 90s rap from The Pharcyde to Jurassic 5 would definitely get a buzz from "Put Em Up". The EP also sees some exclusive and rather ace remixes of "We Are To Answer" tracks as well. Tru Thoughts legend TM Juke takes "Everybody" and rolls it into a tasty funk and electro fusion with some expertly produced drums kicking throughout. Protassov takes the vocals supplied by the Phat Old Mamas on "A Hole To Swallow Us" and provides a fun piano-led downtempo mix, similar in spirit to the early Gorillaz releases. Lance Herbstrong and Gianma both give I Came Running their own unique stamp while BBC radio's DJ Pathaan rewires Lost In Marrakesh into a smooth and sharp drum and bass rhythm.

Review:
French multi instrumentalist Chris Joss returns with another album of dusty funk originals on Thievery Corporation's Eighteenth Street Lounge Music, evoking the spirit of 70s spy thrillers, cop dramas and Blaxploitation soundtracks. "Toxic People" starts things off with a bang, with a frantic slice of car chase funk, closely followed by "Come On, It's Time to Get Up", a fluid piece of vocoder disco. It's these kind of intricate instrumental workouts that make up the majority of the album, with the Wurlitzer styles of "Speed-O-Sound" being another highlight. The album also has its more laid back moments; "You Make Me Happy" is a vocal led lounge number, combining wonky analog electronics and live bass, whilst "Blazing Ashes" combines brushed drums and a double bass with a much smokier atmosphere.

Review:
A NYC-based DJ and nu-soul producer with a truly global outlook on music, Nickodemus follows up his debut LP Sun People with this deeper and more rounded return. The range of stylistic collisions is impressive. Title track "Moon People" mixes eastern strings with a slow-rumbling hip-hop bass, while the icy minimal tech of "Peaceful Island Life" is bolstered by echoed steel drums and bass saxophones. An impressive twelve-track voyage.
