Enchufada At Juno Download

Review: A truly unique release here from American producer Astronomar and Swick on the Enchufada label. Blending a curious combination of techno, Moombahton with a bass music sensibility, this really is at the cutting edge of contemporary electronic music from a couple of top-notch producers. "Cameron" blends whipping snares and reverberating breathy SFX with gabba-like percussion, jiving beats and whining synths. "Horse Code", up next, kicks off with a steady, almost military Soca drum pattern and chopped up vocals, whilst "WYWD" rounds things off in style with quirky chiming and shimmering marimba plus a cooing R&B vocal.

Review: Back on fine form with this, their third LP, Buraka Som Sistema have once again carved out their own niche among the thousands of global bass producers out there at present. "Komba" refers to an Angolan wake that occurs seven days after a death, where food and drink are supplied for friends of the deceased and general merriment and celebration occur. This seems like a pretty sensible way to log out of this mortal coil, and BSS have the soundtrack nailed - with their breakneck tempos, superb arrangements and dark and dirty club sounds always underscored by perfect beats at every step. The raw funk of the title tune, the commanding "We Stay Up All Night" (featuring SBTRKT vocalist Roses Gabor), or the hectic juke/2-step/dubstep of "Lol And Pop" make this a truly essential album, and a perfect remedy for those left wanting by recent releases from Major Lazer and MIA.

Review: Buraka Som Sistema offer a taste of their forthcoming album Komba with "(We Stay Up) All Night", also the follow up to their incendiary comeback "Hangover (BaBaBa)". Combining infectious African inspired rhythms with a rave inspired synth melody, the track also enlists the vocal talents of Blaya, who makes her debut on this track, and London's Roses Gabor to add the finshing touches to this sweat drenched kuduro anthem.

Review: With its "Township Funk" style bleep melody, robust electro-kuduro rhythms and granite-thick bass, "Lwanda" sounds like a dancefloor showdown between DJ Mujava and Buraka Som Sistema. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that the latter have been giving this EP plenty of support. "Show Me" uses similarly African influenced percussion, but switches the melody for synths that scream "rave". Excitingly, there's also a great free track in the shape of "Animals", which offers naggingly addictive hooks and rhythms in a similar vein to the explosive title track. Booming.

Review: A few years back, the world of electronic music was entranced by Buraka Som Sistema's field fresh take on the kuduro sound. Now, they're using their Enchufada label to unveil a new generation of future kuduro stars. Chief among these is Lisbon native DJ Marfox. Here, he delivers five almighty chunks of Angolan/Portugese electronic fusion. In truth, it's similar to the BSS sound, but there's an energetic roughness and booming simplicity to tracks like "E-Pemba" and "Voodoo Sound (Africa)" that should appeal to those seeking bassbin-bothering nirvana. The interplay between traditional African rhythms and drum machine sounds on "Urban ADN" is also very impressive.
