Review:
Fat City Record's recent Producer#2 compilation was a superlative assimilation of Transatlantic beat makers with established acts like Harmonic 313, Mike Slott and Dabrye next to rising talent such as Mono/Poly and Darkhouse Family. Dbridge's "ZX81" was one of that compilation's highlights, a staggeringly slo mo drum and bass track infused with downtrodden soul with the warmest of white noise basslines. It's no surprise Fat City picked that track for this remix EP with two very special treatments. Berlin's Shed reworks the track into a broody sub bass dub techno monster replete with the most glorious of soaring synth breakdowns. Next up is an equally consummate remix from Ramadanman. The Hessle Audio man gives "ZX81" a shot of energy, a rolling percussive rhythm cloaked in sublime bass drops and screaming keys.

Review:
Attempting a summary of sorts for Illum Sphere's career to date, Fat City have drafted in this raft of remixers to reinterpret the maverick producers output thus far. Kidkanevil turns "Agent White" into a half-step bleepathon which erupts into jungle without so much as a warning. Dabrye brings some crisp, linear funk to "An Old Escape", with a chunky bass line to die for. "Chasing The Midnight Moth" becomes a silken blur of UK Funky-meets-G Funk in Ikonika's hands, while Om Unit creates an atmospheric dread with his version of "Never Lie Twice". Scumbag rounds things off with an organic yet shattered take on "One For Dimlite".

Review:
UK Funky mover and shaker Mosca gives his own Tilt Shift over to a couple of very worthy remixers for this EP on Fat City. Bristolian boy wonder Julio Bashmore steps up first with a heavy grooving slow-mo cut that capitalises on fuzzy synth swirls for a luscious and slightly psychedelic end result. It's a killer slice of deep house with ample character that lifts it out of the glut of similar-minded music at the moment. Swing Ting is more of an unknown quantity, and out of their two versions the dub wins out for sparse rawness with garagey bass squelches.
