Review:
Breathy vocals and a light rhythmic touch are the common features of Chris Lattner's original productions on Focus. "Las Retamas" is a seductive tech-house shuffle, while "Stellar Landing" sees vocal snippets accompanying a rush of warm basslines and rich chords. The remixes feature a more diverse approach; Gorge's version of "Sick" is based on an insistent rhythm and a surging bass, while Jens Bonds's take on "9 Minutes House" is a tracky affair, augmented by wild, building filters. At the other end of the spectrum is the stop-start, soulful breaks of the Mow Slotion version of the same track, while Pezzner impresses greatly with his rasping percussion and enveloping chord take on "Deep As Hell".

Review:
UK House imprint Fear Of Flying has cemented itself as a label worthy of watching since 2010 thanks to stand out releases from Leif and Schatrax. In a prolific 2012 FOF's sixth release comes from two fresh-faced tech house pups Dan Farserelli and Archie Hamilton. The Absynth EP remains deeply seated in tech house sensibilities and "Downtime" is its biggest exponent with a classic kick-cymbal combo, shuffled percussion, irregular chords and jangly atmos. "Tesla" makes full use of an upfront snare and slightly syncopated beats before house music takes over by the way of subtle pads and skipping hi-hats. Tribal elements and throaty vocals are then adopted for the title player "Absynth".

Review:
Ivano Tetelepta presents a slick fusion of modern and classic house sounds. The original version of "Smokin G" sees a drummy groove supporting lush chords and an effortlessly breathless vocal sample as the break down approaches. "Flowers" provides clues that Tetelepta is a contemporary producer with clicking, minimalistic percussion set against a drum-heavy rhythm and an ominous, cavernous bass. But it's the Analogue Cops who impress the most here: their take on "Smokin G" sees the vocal turned into a murmuring background element and the focus on repetitive stabs and the kind of rasping, relentless percussive elements that make them one of house music's most respected acts.

Review:
The UK house label comes good again with a diverse four-tracker. "Follow Your Leader" is a sweat-soaked tribal groove, its organic beats, woo-woo-woo synths and muffled vocal sounding like an update on late 90s UK tech-house. The title track follows a similar tact, its pin-prick, pontillist percussion providing the only clue that it is not of that era. By contrast, "Trei Sunete" is a swinging, dubby techno/bass crossover, its chiming bells also hinting at the deep house of Efdemin and Dial. Finally, Mahony & Bog end the release with "Triplu Sec", where an evil, recoiling bass and metallic percussive ticks hint at a darker, more menacing agenda.

Review:
"Take Me Away" succeeds in living up to its title, transporting to a more wide-eyed musical time. Its dubby groove opens to the sound of kids playing and then veers into full-blooded jazzy keys that weave in and out of glorious solos. On the off chance that the listener's attention starts to drag, the duo deploy firing percussion to maintain a dance floor feeling. By contrast, the remixes are deeper and more ponderous; in a rare remix outing, UK producer Schatrax turns the original into a dubby techno groove replete with spell-bindingly beautiful chords, and BLM opt for a more melancholic deep house touch. Completing the package is "Tell them Phil Sent Ya", which pushes closer to modern sensibilities thanks to its repetitive vocal sample, but here too, the chiming chords and delicate yet forceful percussion ensure that the musical end of house prevails.

Review:
They don't make records like Pason any more, and that's a large part of its charm. While this release by Romanian act Nu Zau could be seen as a record that's out of time, the title track doesn't sound dated; at its heart is a stripped back, abstract-sounding rhythm, which provides the backdrop for eerie textures and undercurrents. It's like Villalobos at his most ethereal and abstract. "De Ja Vu" is another understated affair, but on this occasion, Nu Zau take inspiration from deep house. The result is a rambling, swirling affair, imbued with the warmth of the scirocco and the soul of a distinctly European take on house music.

Review:
Like Aubrey and Steve O'Sullivan, Josh 'Schatrax' Brent is one of the unsung heroes of 90s electronic music, operating at the boundary between house and techno, but also bringing his own, mysterious-sounding touch to bear. This release is no exception and right from the get go, Brent pits stripped back drums with eerie pads and chiming bells on "Mists". A similar approach applies on "Aliena's Journey", where dreamy, angelic melodies unfold over a lithe rhythm, while "The Almighty" sees him venture into darker territories thanks to a moody bassline, chopped up vocal samples and a trippy acid line. Finally, "Keep On Loving" has a more old school feeling, with evocative keys placed over a pulsing, aching groove.

Review:
The UK-based label Fear Of Flying presents a second volume of some of the label's finest remixes, with reworks provided by some heavyweight names. Highlights include Cally Vinyl's remix of BLM & Pawas' "Online", sharpening the focus of the slightly foggier original, Christopher Rau's remix of Drake & Griffiths' "The Devil's Eyes", putting its rhythm through a series of tumbling filters and smooth Rhodes melodies, Jens Bond's remix of Leif's "Commonplace", which adds booming toms and dry stabs to the funkier original, and Andromatt 300's remix of DadaBleep's "Ghipwe", coiling it's bleeps and bass into a tightly would spring, exploding with snatches of melody.
