Review: Amaning steps up on DJ SS's Formation Records and brings with him the Ost EP. Prepare yourselves for an aural onslaught as Amaning takes no prisoners and delivers only the best in dancefloor D&B. Veering away from the "jump up" tag so often associated with Formation, Amaning kicks off the EP with vocal-driven cut "Ost", with shimmying SFX and rolling, slightly aggressive percussion. Moving on through "Waters Of Mars", this one is all grouchy warping and grinding, while "Slippin Away" marks a change in style again, bringing in Greenlaw on vocal duties for a straight up liquid track. Review: The original cut here is a shimmying slice of funk with polished vocal, smooth, liquid beats and rumbling bass. The D&B version ramps up the tempo, and suddenly you can see Formation boss DJ SS's influence indelibly printed into the music, with souped up bass, sirens, pumping beats and plenty of dancefloor potential. Cabbie takes it a step further down the jump-up route with grizzled synth work in both his D&B mix and Dirty House version with its outrageously boisterous 4/4 beats. A sizzling dancehall mix completes the EP.

Review: Young North London based D&B producer Rollz has been getting a lot of love recently, not just from the UKF channels and affiliated Pilot Records, but also from SS's legendary label Formation. Here Rollz brings us his next offering, which comes wrapped in a rambunctious layer of fun for everyone. First up is "Mind Control" - a boisterous but brilliant venture which pairs grouchy bass with synth screeches, a futuristic movie sample and pumping jump up drums. Heavy like so. "Contact" compliments it well, juxtaposing a trance-like intro with a gritty Sigma-esque main part, with booming sub bass and pounding drums ensuring this gets dropped on the late night dancefloor. Superb stuff here from Rollz.
