Review: The GU name may be associated with progressive house, but as their latest compilation demonstrates, the ground they cover is as wide as the territories their DJs traverse on any given weekend. Pumping tribal house is catered for by the Ahmet Sendil remix of the classic "Belo Horizonti", while a more acidic take on house is audible on the creeping acid of Christian Smith's reshape of Spektre's "Guillotine". 2012 also has a strong techno focus, including the panning, tunnelling groove of Bambook's "Walk The Walk", the rolling, Plastikman-style snares of Jimmy Edgar's take on Paul Thomas and Funkagenda's "Gorna" and Robert Hood's slinky minimal version of Nic Fanciulli's "Materia". However, GU would be nothing without its big room sound and James Talk's "Polar" ends the compilation with a pumping, proggy high note.
