Review:
As one half of Hype Williams, Dean Blunt has been responsible for some of the most smacked out music of recent times, and this solo effort is no different. Unfurling like one long weed-induced fantasy, The Narcissist II is a combination of unsettling instrumentals and bizarrely serene downtempo lounge-pop. The Narcissist II acts as a kind of companion piece to the Hyperdub released collaboration with Inga Copeland, Black Is Beautiful; where that album was defined by Copeland's feminine vocal presence, this EP acts as its masculine reflection. But where previous records has seen Blunt portrayed as a threatening, voice distorted figure, but here, he almost seems sensitive. Yet another layer of misdirection to add to the mystery of Hype Williams.

Review:
After building a gentle buzz around two free albums and a string of albums and EPs for Hippos In Tanks in the past two years, Montreal resident d'Eon steps up with an album proper that slots in perfectly between the fractured singer-songwriting of Laurel Halo and Peaking Lights, and the more austere synthesiser studies of Oneohtrix Point Never. "Now You Do" certainly harks back to the wilder end of 1980s electronic musicians, while d'Eon's own voice intones a fragile croon that it's hard not to like. While it's a densely produced album, LP avoids the temptation to head purposefully towards lo-fi production, leaving the music standing comfortably on its own. Recommended.

Review:
With their debut LP Exo, Gatekeeper continue their endeavors to be viewed as "an immersive audiovisual experience" as opposed to a mere band. Much like Giza, their EP for Merok, was accompanied by a VHS tape of music videos rendered in 3D, the ostensible album format of Exo is part of a wider concept, with a purpose -built video game environment to accompany the music, with a different level for each track. Album opener "Imax" is aptly titled as the plush sound design whooshes around you like a quintessential pre-movie indent, begging to be flung across the room on a 5.1 surround sound system. From this brief intro Gatekeeper take you on a fast-paced romp through all manner of bold electronic styles. Still, that underlying nausea that comes from such a rush of information to your ears has an addictive quality that begs for high volume immersion. Whether this album stands strong independently of the video game analogies is debatable. The context is needed to justify the production pec-flexing, and does anchor the bombast of this kind of electronica. It's impeccably realized, and presented in the right way it will undoubtedly draw you into a world where sound and vision fuse seamlessly in your head

Review:
Inga Copeland will be known to most as one half of Hype Williams with Dean Blunt, and following a rare solo outing for Rush Hour's No Label series she's back with something as equally special for the good people over at Hippos In Tanks. First up, we've got the bitter-sweet infusions of "So Far So Clean", a strangely rave-reminiscent rhythm containing the sparsest, most chopped-up beats you'll have heard in a while - including Copeland's own familiar vocal tricks riding all over it. "Speak" is a bass-led, electro-inspired bundle of joy with some seriously seductive chants, but the real surprise is kept for last on "A&E", where Copeland teams up with Dutch main man, Martyn; fluttering two-step beats, mesmerising pads, chilling harmonics and whole load of low-end - pretty unmissable in our books!

Review:
Hailing from the ever-fertile climes of L.A, Nguzunguzu look set to break through with this sprawling release on Hippos In Tanks. It's hard to latch on to a specific angle the duo are coming from, so fluid is their approach to constructing collages of samples. There's a pervading tension that hovers just overhead at all times, sometimes manifested in spectral voices, sometimes in ghostly chimes, but it comes no clearer than in the X-Files aping melodic hook of "Drop Cage." The production shimmers and shivers with a plethora of signifiers from jungle to dubstep via coke rap, but really it's the loaded atmosphere that will draw you in.
