Hum & Buzz At Juno Download

Review: Brenmar has been gaining the attention of many for his incendiary mixes and scorching club tracks such as So High, released this summer on Sinden's Grizzly label. Now he finds himself on Ikonika's Hum & Buzz for what is probably his best EP to date. "Let's Pretend" takes R&B vocals and huge leads and sits them atop a massive dancehall bassline. "Temperature Rising" meanwhile lives up to its name, creating a much smokier atmosphere, with a deep and driving 303 bassline powering the frenetic pace of its cut up vocals. "Done (Don't Luv Me No More)" is an undoubted standout, with a furious 150bpm pace and suspended rhythms which recall Chicago juke. Finally MikeQ provides a more straightened out version of "Done" which brings the vocals to the fore, creating a more melancholy version of the furious original.

Review: A super tight release on the label Optimum co-runs with Hyperdub's hotly tipped act Ikonika. First up, "Light Year" pairs deep rolling subs with house style beats and some enticing buzzing synth work, It's got a similar driving energy as Instra:mental's classy cut on Skream's Disfigured Dubz, "Voyeur". On the flip DS-10 employs disorientating chopped up vocals with rippling beats and smacking snares for a dubbed-out sound that is reminiscent of Boddika's recent output, with that dark soundscape and bleepy electro pattern which will appeal to electronic music fans from across the board. Sterling stuff.
