Review:
Mic Newman must be amongst the most productive men in deep house at the moment. Over the last few years, his reputation has risen dramatically thanks to a string of well-regarded singles and remixes. Here, he joins forces with Illusion Recordings regular Garry Todd for an extensive EP full of floor-friendly jams. There's much to admire, from the bouncy retro-futurist peaktime vibes of "The Shelter", to the full-throttle, warts-and-all pump of late night hustler "Swing Down". The combination of analogue bass and disco percussion on the oddly titled "Penny Farthing Diaries" is pretty good, too. Two sturdy remixes from Burnski and Tom Craven & James Coterill complete a solid EP.

Review:
Illusions Recordings tap up the sumptuously Balearic talent of Volta Cab for their sixth release; "Don't Give Up" kicks things off with a soulful vocal turn and 90bpm groves that have a particularly Ibizan sunset vibe with its glistening Rhodes and dubby Air-inspired horns, while "Strange Days" offers a jazz-funk odyssey. "Marat On Ecstasy" offers the most club-friendly cut with its deep chords and low slung bass delights. Massive remixes are offered; the mighty Trus'me transforms "Don't Give Up" into a techy house roller, Creative Swing Alliance delivers a very Fingers Inc style take on "Strange Days", and finally, James Cotterill & Ross Elliott transform "Marat On Ecstasy" into a midnight shuffler with viscous bass.
