Review: Since launching last year, Matthew Kyle's In The Woods label has barely put a foot wrong. This four-track EP from Brendon P is another strong release, taking the label's disco-centric, slo-mo and midtempo house sound in new directions. "Shades Of J", for example, turns a modern soul track into an intoxicating chunk of voodoo slo-mo (think Tiger & Woods on acid), while "Your Definition" is darkroom hip-house at 107 BPM, all low-slung basslines and classic vocal samples. "Home With You" offers some typical ITW style slow dance soul-house, while "Way Down Low" is so dubbed-out it's almost horizontal.

Review: We've become accustomed to Matthew Kyle's In The Woods label offering up hypnotic, sumptuous fare, but so far it's largely been of the disco/soul/slo-mo house variety. This EP from Domes flips the script, offering a higher level of musicality, some smooth jazz-funk flavours and house beats that are subtle rather than needlessly heavy. Opener "This Time" is the real killer, all cosmic jazz keys, rubbery bass and sparkling, crystal clear FX. The Homeboy & Pytzek remix continues on a similar theme, re-casting the original as a joyously dubbed-out slice of nu-Balearic goodness. There's also some slo-mo soul freakery in the shape of bonus cuts "Former State" and "Over & Over".

Review: With tracks on recent EPs for Editorial and a recent collection of edits on Superbreak, Romanian producer Heion drops his debut EP of original material on Matthew Kyle's In The Woods. Across the four tracks contained within, Heion proves himself to be a master of slow burning disco; "Get On" combines ingeniously sequenced synths which segue smoothly into a deliciously low slung bassline, while "Off" takes a sultry vocal and trumpet sample and combines it with some particularly chugging live bass. "Not Knowing" meanwhile takes insistent piano loops and contrasts their minimal tones with an enveloping symphonic synth backdrop. Finally, "Come Here" employs more vocal sumptuousness and combines it with sweeping strings and the most insistent bassline of all his tracks to cap off a fine debut.

Review: In the blink of an eye, Matthew Kyle's In The Woods imprint has gone from 'promising newcomer' to 'essential label' - certainly for those who like their grooves deep, slow and soulful. In truth, few labels have pursued the slo-mo disco/house sound with so-much vigour. This EP from Romanian producer Heion - his second for In The Woods - features nothing above 100 BPM, with most cuts hovering around the 90-95 BPM mark. There's plenty of head-nodding chug on show - see the heavy analogue bass and starry keys of "Holiday" or the super-slow "Under The Covers" - but also a dash of rubbery Balearic disco ("Seashell") and bags of slow-but-energetic groovery (opener "Act One").

Review: Matthew Kyle's impressive In The Woods label welcomes another new addition to the roster, Jona Saucedo. The Mexican producer isn't a total newbie, having previously released some more tech-house leading fodder, but In The Dub is arguably his strongest body of work to date. It neatly fits into the In The Woods stylesheet, offering sumptuous, string-laden slo-mo grooves and soul-flecked midtempo house. There's a slight Soul II Soul-does-slo-mo house vibe to the delicious "Beverly" and "Love & Controvery", with the latter proudly grooving around an '89 style Brit-soul break. "Look At Me", meanwhile, offers a more traditional take on slo-mo disco - all sharp strings, dubbed-out horns and dreamy vocal samples.

Review: It's perhaps not much of a surprise to see Joseph Turruel pop up on Matthew Kyle's new In The Woods imprint - they have, after all, previously produced some typically deep and hypnotic disco/house blends together. Turruel's heart-aching, head-nodding style mirrors that of Kyle's, though the latter has rarely produced anything quite as simply poignant as "Thinkin' About You". Or, for that matter, the eyes-wide-shut slow burner that is "Sexy Mama". There's a departure from the nascent label's trademark sound in the shape of "Jazzy Dub Sensation", a downtempo excursion that should prove useful for those horizontal post-club moments.

Review: Talented American producer Matthew Kyle has been causing something of a stir of late with his deliciously sensual slo-mo reworks. If you enjoyed his previous Diner City Sound or It's A Small World Disco 12"s, you'll love this latest super-sexual four tracker. All four cuts boast his usual wonderfully smooth blend of smouldering soul, silky slo-mo deep house, sultry disco and drunken funk. "Make Some Room For Sex" and "Make Me Crazy", in particular, are the audio equivalent of having your nether regions gently rubbed by the soft hands of a new lover. Which, in our eyes at least, is very much a good thing.
