Review:
You could quite easily call this collection of edits, remixes and collabos an album. Technically it's a compilation but Smoove's ability as a both a producer and selector really glue this compendium together. Which is mad as he ticks a lot of party boxes; from Womack style high production funk soul (Electric Empire's "Baby Your Lovin'") to piano-punctuated party breaks (Kraak & Smaak's "Call Up To Heaven") to sexy bossa nova (Kojato & The Afro Latin Cougaritas "Like A Gypsy"), Smoove lives up to his name, easing from genre to genre with genuine class. Final props are essential on his Northern soul style floor-pounding remix of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head". A true party piece.

Review:
Plymouth's self-proclaimed "number one digger" and one-time maker of high quality bootleg remixes returns to the world of original production with an expansive EP for the ever-reliable Jalepeno stable. There's plenty to enjoy, not least the parping horns and low-slung funk guitars that pepper the EP's two vocal cuts, "You're All Show" (featuring Tru Thoughts regular Kylie Audist) and "Take Me To A Party" (with Brit rap funkateers ASM). The fun doesn't stop there, though. There's some twinkling hip-hop-funk deepness in the shape of the bluesy "What Happened?", and a stroll into funk-laden classic soul territory (the excellent "Alone"). It all adds up to his best release to date, we reckon.

Review:
Big remix selection here for Aldo Vanucci's hook up with vocalist Kylie Auldist (she of Tru Thoughts fame). There's a distinct D&B slant to the first two reworks from Dr Meaker and Futurizm; the badass low frequencies on the latter need to be heard to be believed. Smoove meanwhile chimes in with a typically funkified revision, while D'Steph rounds off the package with a shimmering progressive house rework. Oh and the lovely original can be found in there too!

Review:
The first official release from this up and coming Brighton beat-mangler, "Come A Little Closer" follows mixes for Wah Wah 45s and Tru Thoughts and marks his debut on Jalapeno. While the title tune uses some hazy sampled trip-hop textures over a midtempo beat, "Can We Pretend" rocks a Dilla beat over which layers of fragmented chimes and stuttering chords are plastered. The highlight though has to be his reinterpretation of Marvin Gaye's early-Motown hit "Ain't That Peculiar" - a soulful yet wonky hip-hop-inspired gem that puts an entirely new swing on a classic.

Review:
Given their history of flitting between funk-tinged grooves, downtempo beats and rousing, party-starting fodder, it's a little surprising to see Jalepeno diving headfirst into the world of US garage-influenced deep house with an EP from Nottingham-based producer Animist. There's much to enjoy, from the summery liquidity of admirably melodic bonus cut "Neutral Bay", to the chopped-up yelps, woozy chords and classic house grooves of lead track "Tin Head Bump". Best of all, though, is Marcus Jakes' remix of "Tin Head", which beefs up the bottom end and adds some irresistible shuffle to Animist's garage-influenced groove.

Review:
Is it just us or are Basement Freaks albums getting funkier and funkier? As hinted with their Soul Digga EP last winter, the trio just keep getting more organic and authentic, this being their most engaging, juiciest funk LP to date. From the Alabama 3 meets the Daptones style "Gimme More" to the insanely authentic Parliament skit "Disco Boy" via the mild skank bounce, organ noodling and Troutman crooning on "Red Light Streets", this really is party dynamite. Basement Freaks are ruling the nu-funk scene right now.

Review:
Following on from his Something Freaky LP, Greek funky breaks machine Basement Freaks drops "Get Down Boogie" as a single. BF's original contains his trademark live band-meets-samples formula and is a perfect song for spring, while Funkanomics creates more of a solid disco mix out of the funk-riddled original. The standout though has to be Fab Samperi's, jazzed-up double-time transformation - perfect for fans of electro-swing.

Review:
Greek funkateer Basement Freaks, aka George Fotiadis, channels Prince and Zapp & Roger nicely on "Makes Me Wanna Scream". Building on a loop from "More Bounce To The Ounce", he adds thick layers of bass and a new set of vocals, crafting a nu-funk breaks beauty which comes with a Dancefloor Outlaws mix, as well as a hugely impressive dub-hop mix from DJ Wood.

Review:
A powerhouse of funky breaks, b-boy funk and studio phatness, Jalapeno's Basement Freaks has four of his latest jams taken apart and given a new lease of life on this remix edition. Like-minded funker Ursula 1000 uses the Prince-esque falsetto of "Down In The Basement" to maximum effect by layering it over a slinky, Moog-led beat, while Omegaman adds some hip-hop punch to "Don't You Wanna Party". Lean electro wobbles mark out Delimentary's take on the "Get Ready" and Quasamodo recasts "Let's Get It Started" with a cowbell-riding disco beat and twisted chords.

Review:
Having dropped the excellent single of the same name, Greece's breaks master George Fotiadis comes back with this full album on Jalapeno - an invigorating mix of funk, 80s boogie and rock-hard studio breaks. The Prince-isms of "Down In The Basement" should be an instant favourite, matched in style by the soulful "Let's Get It Started" or the Roger Troutman-sampling "Makes Me Wanna Scream". For fans of Chromeo, Plantlife, Jamie Lidell and the original 80s funkateers.

Review:
Jumping from his own Bombastic Jam label back to Jalapeno suggests Basement Freaks is set to release a new album. Exciting. Especially considering the raw power and interesting diversions this new material has taken. "Work It Out" is reminiscent of Nextmen with its grizzly distorted riff and lyrical impact. "A Blues Thang", meanwhile, lives up to its name with harmonica-swallowing splendour and "That Little Thing You Do" oozes 80s funk boogie power. And while "Gotta Make Me A Gun" might sound aggressive, trust us it's not... it's as soft and playful as Rick James and Bootsy having a cuddle and kiss with a Moog synth.

A reissue from the Jalapeno label, available for the first time digitally, of this debut LP from the Craig Charles-supported live troupe Dr Rubberfunk. Everything from guitar-led blues rock, to interesting mixes of strings and synths turns up on this mostly-instrumental wig-out of an album - mixing modern soul with fatback funk (as on "Disco Scene").

Well it's about ruddy time... Featurecast has been providing DJs with the very best party bombs for over a decade, an album has been on the cards for aeons. Naturally, like everything he's shoved our way on labels like Bomb Strikes, Catskills, Goodgroove and of course Jalapeno, he's nailed it. Covering every possible block rocking genre from Northern soul stomp ("Evil Eye") to beautiful rolling D&B ("Ofelia's World") to backpacking hip-hop ("Get Lovely") to the belly-busting nufunk he's currently king of ("Give It To Ya"), this is one seriously accomplished debut long player. We've said it before and we'll say it again... About ruddy time!

Not already checked out Featurecast's album? Go and sit on the naughty chair and really think about the booty-shaking, rump-wriggling time you've missed out on. Done? Good... Now come and get up to speed with this impeccable remix set. JPOD takes the raw vocal soul stomper "Soul Children" into sexy boogie pastures, B-Side adds a hip-hop swagger to the riff-heavy "Jump", CMC and Silenta get all retrofunky on "Got That Fire", Dreadsquad turn "Get Lovely" into an authentic dub joint and Featurecast finishes the set with his own technicolour D&B remix of "Ego Tripping". What a package!

There's no stopping the funky-assed Featurecast right now as he serves up another nugget from his fantastic album Run For Cover. The original, complete with Miss Farina's emphatic vocals, is supplied in all its low-swung glory and it's backed with some resplendent remixes... Deekline & Ed Solo don their D&B heads up for an uptempo blockrocker, Chicky Boom opt for more of a UK garage swing reversion while WBBL shove some P-funk and sparkly vibes upside your head. Something for everyone!

Review:
Jalapeno apply a little label synergy and hook Featurecast up with their golden-larynxed crooner John Turrell. The end result teeters on edge of ballad in the best possible way; soft keys, silky guitars and a smooth soothing groove. Serious bar, beach or bedtime material. Remixwise Featurecast adds his own funk mix before handing over duties to Heavyfeet (jacking house with nice speed garage undertones) and Psychemagik (trippy, cosmic and timeless). Beautiful stuff.

Review:
Brand new to London's most consistent funk imprint Jalapeno, Hoglodytes have built up quite the reputation with their Peace Soup online mixes. Now making waves on the production tip, they're just as fly on the dials as they are on the decks. The vocalist carries a Charlie Tuna air about him, and some rather fun lyrics that complement the funky beats and hooks. Looking for a recommendation? Well if you haven't got time to check all four, head directly to "Girls, Ladies & Women" for a true classic hip-hop vibe. But we'd be rude not to highlight "Twisted & Lifted" for its endless sample mastery. Just find the time. You won't be disappointed.
