Review: The Legendary Sound Orchestra continues his attempt to provide disco edit lovers with something extraordinary, with a third collection of hand picked reworks. Predictably, there's plenty to enjoy, from his own sparse, piano-heavy version of Silvetti's Salsoul classic "Spring Rain", to the rolling, bongo-laden goodness of 78 Edits' sprightly but loopy "Don't You Know". Highlights-wise, it's a toss-up between Alkalino's baggy disco-soul shuffler, "Have A Ball", and Jimmy The Twin's superb, TR-707-enhanced "Party Down". The latter, a horn-heavy chunk of upbeat disco-funk, is arguably the Bristol-based scalpel fiend's best work to date.

Review: Having impressed with the first collection of re-edits earlier in 2012, the Legendary 1979 Orchestra gather together more floor-friendly reworks from friends and associates on their own Legendary Sound Research imprint. With different tempos, sounds and styles at play, it's a well-rounded collection. Contrast, for example, the tough 80s-electro-goes house vibes of Legendary 1979 Orchestra's "Burning" and the slow, soulful bump of 78 Edits' "Can't Have My Love". Or, for that matter, the breezy party vibes of Andrei's "Let's Go Raw" and the heavy funk of Richmed's "Do Your Thang". There's also some more 80s disco tweakery from Spanish edit workhorse Rayko.

Review: Usually found lurking in the halls of the Heartbeat Revolutions HQ, nu-disco troubadour Thomass Jackson has, this time, teamed up with relatively new imprint Legendary Sound Research for "The Sound". The title track is a chic excursion into a world of tight funk guitar licks, fluid basslines, and Studio 54 strings. Our favourite mix sees Disko Selectors add a killer electro-disco bassline a la Metro Area and a dark mix is also provided for deeper early hours soirees. Extra tracks "Sat It Good" and "One Atmosphere Shot" supply slick disco-house and space-bounce kick respectively.

Review: The mysterious (to us, for now) Legendary 1979 Orchestra launches the Legendary Sound Research imprint with three variations on the shimmering house jam "Close Your Eyes". The Legendary drums version opens the release, with crisp, rolling percussion busy in the mix but never overbearing - a hugely pleasant listen and primed for warm-up sets. Up next, the No Drums Just Soul mix strips back the percussion (obviously) with the piano loops and the chopped vocal given room to breathe. Finally, the dub mix - our pick of the bunch - gets nice and deep with those kicks ever so slightly beefed up. An accomplished release for both artist and label.

Review: Germany-based Romanian producer Borrowed Identity has been picking up plaudits of late for his icy and evocative take on deep house. Following releases on Traveller Records and Stripped & Chewed, the 22 year-old has upped sticks and signed with Legendary Sound Research. As an EP, Je T'aime is full of touchy-feely delights, from the cosmic sweep of the early Simoncino-ish "Connection" and old skool deep house blast of "1989 (Summer of Love)", to the '90s deep garage revivalism of "Je T'Aime". There's also a curious but entertaining fusion of deep house and low-slung disco in the shape of "Living With You".
