Named after one of the most beautiful cities in the world, "Praha" begins with eerie, paranoid bass and continues this theme of enclosed space and unsettling atmospherics as horror-film keys play out a nightmare soundtrack while high-energy hi-hats push the tempo. "I'm In Love" has the tight kicks and dampened euphoric techno vibes of hardcore, and it's not until those drums play out break after break that you're certain there won't be a hike up to 200+ bpm. It's still ambitiously key-neutral sounding, bouncing from minor to major in a skewed, disconcerting manner in-keeping with Ambrela's penchant for messing with heads. Not for the faint-hearted.

Expect unique vibes all the way here from Ambrela in the Rays Of Heat EP on Liquid Brilliants. The title track is all quirky bleeping melodies, whirring synths and rolling breaks with a moody b-line keeping things in line from below. It segues neatly into "Tormento", the next track on the EP, which builds from an experimental intro of trance-like synths and mournful chords into a pumping main part with razor sharp snares and bleep synthetic aesthetic. "The Feeling Of Flying" concludes the EP with a bellow of bass and synth belches.

The next instalment of perky, upbeat, feel-good D&B from Liquid Brilliants arrives, with Bass Division and Alex DB teaming up for the first track of the Brazilian Brilliants EP - "The Scape", a shimmying slice of goodness, full of chirruping SFX, rallying vocal cries and punchy jazz-infused pressure. "Concrete Jungle" sees Mayforms harking back to yesteryear with skittering percussive breaks, woozy atmospherics and a lonely guitar string throughout. "Good Troughts Good Things" ups the ante with tough drum work and lilting melodies, before lush atmospheric roller "Nothing You Can Do" concludes the EP.

Fresh from their signing to exciting new D&B focused label BMTM, Slovakian producer duo delPurr & Eraser spend their time creating drum and bass that veers towards liquid while maintaining an interesting techy edge. This release on Liquid Brilliants pinpoints their more dancefloor-orientated side, with a couple of choice tracks that'll spice up any fresh liquid set. "Magic Pill" start off with its title track, a shimmering mirage of effervescent textures and rolling, brightly-tuned bass. "Wonder Pill" hits the mark from a slightly different angle, stepping large and fast to crisp percussion and glimmering glints of synth above a rattling, nasty bassline. Two tracks that show off the different sides of delPurr & Eraser; for those who have yet to be acquainted, we suggest you do so.

Liquid Brilliants' quest to find the best in drum & bass and liquid funk with a light, soulful touch has led them to release DJ Skill's first solo EP and sweet merciful modulation was it worth the wait. Touching upon the retro sound of late '90s liquid funk while driving forward with intense top-end percussion, "Heavenly Calm" is a wide open soundscape of glittering ocean and endless blue skies. "L Music" switches up the dancefloor appeal with bouncing bass and cheeky electro-esque claps and even a verse comprised of whistling. Definitely a holiday tune. "Spring Jazz" finishes off the selection with dancefloor-driven beats and a swinging jazzy feel. A unique liquid record - not often you can say that.

Latest out of the Liquid Brilliants' beat kitchen is the adorably-named Drum Force 1. Born and living in Serbia, he's one of the new set of liquid producers coming straight out of Eastern Europe with their own tales to tell on the progression of Drum & Bass. This EP is filled with bright sparks of on-point liquid that harks back to early Good Looking and Innerground. With highs and lows you'd expect from a liquid funk drum & bass release, what's unique about Drum Force 1's sound is how he uses his samples and instrumentation. Clearly completely smitten with the genre he uses sax and brass to beautiful effect alongside smooth vocals. One to watch.

Expect sonorous, vocal-led laidback D&B here from Eavesdrop on Liquid Brilliants. Kicking off this three-track EP is the delectable "Backlight (feat Keshia)" which pairs a lustrous, crooning vocal with gentle, rolling drums and sumptuous bassline, plus clinking piano keys and oodles of soul. Next is the equally as enticing, chilled out "I Don't Know" with its easy percussive quality and soulful vox; things then take a grittier note in "One By One" - a straight up dancefloor cut. Finally, "Really Love" draws proceedings to a close, with lovely vocals from Keshia adding a final artistic flourish.

Expect rolling, guitar-laden liquid D&B here from Eugenics Eight as they unleash "Creations" on Liquid Brilliants. The title track kicks things off with a flurry of beats, bass and swooning atmospheric sweeps. It's all gentle fluttering, bass murmuring, pattering drums and harmonious vocals billowing in the wind for the duration, before "No, No" takes over with its punchy drums, grinding bass, soulful and enticing vocal. A pleasure from start to finish.

Review:
Liquid Brilliants have a knack for finding the oddballs amongst the D&B masses, and they've outdone themselves this time. Combining a sample from 1930s swing ditty and jungle-lite, Serbian drum and bass nutcases Euphorics sew together "Moonshine", a strangely bleak yet also confusingly upbeat little number. "Snowflake" is somewhat less mentally concerning, with refreshingly musical piano loops and soulful vocals readily deployed within lovely warm liquid breaks. "Gambling With Hearts", it's fair to say, is the drum and bass equivalent of losing your mind at an 80s high school reunion (just you wait for that sample) but with less hairspray and more questions about mortality. The Spanish flavours of sunny "So Real" is welcomingly sunkissed after all the madness; soothingly rolling and with some beautiful little instrumental inflections. A quirky pick-n-mix EP well worth the moments of disorientation.

Bringing the ruckus this time on Liquid Brilliants is the gloriously named Fak Scratch who presents volume five of the "Dubwise Brilliants" series. Needless to say it's full of fun; from opener "Love No More" with its shimmying reggae vocals and alarmingly soaring and bleeping SFX, it's lush and shimmying and irresistible. Fak Scratch mainlines for some straight up D&B of "Original Joyride" with its punishing snares and jiving beats all chirruping blips and edits. Shaking things up is the Fak Scratch remix of 2BrotherSound - "Get Up & Fight" with its pattering beats and enticing lyrics. Then last of all is Taifa Lab - "Fumale (feat Xivonn) (Fak Scratch Remix)" for some piano clinking, jungle chirruping dancefloor fun.
