4-channel compact analog mixer with 2 x XDR2 mic preamps
Review: The Mackie 402-VLZ3 Ultra compact 4-channel analogue mixer featuring VLZ3 quality and 2 mic pre amps. World's best-selling compact mixer line is now even better.

The Mackie 402-VLZ3 reinforces the notion that less is more. For those with low input counts and discriminatingly high standards, Mackie have created the ultra-compact, 4-channel 402-VLZ3. This tight little unit is purely pro, and pure VLZ3, through and through. With its signature VLZ3 high-headroom, low-noise design and modern summing bus architecture, you always get crystal clear signal, even when you really crank it up.

The Mackie 402-VLZ3 's Ultra-musical EQ provides precise control and optimum sound shaping latitude. Super quiet XDR2 (Extended Dynamic Range) mic preamps deliver studio-grade sound, over a 130dB dynamic range, so your signal is clean, from a whisper to a scream. All this is packed into a tight built-like-a-tank steel chassis that maximizes your workspace...at a price that maximizes your budget. As an added bonus, you even get Tracktion 3 Music Production Software to help kick-start your creativity.

Monitor switching and volume & headphone control box
Review: Since the dawn of computer-based music making, folks have longed for a simple monitor switching and level control box with built-in talkback functions. You know, something that sits right on your desktop, letting you easily switch between sets of studio monitors and different stereo sources. And send musicians custom headphone mixes while you communicate with them via a built-in talkback microphone. Your wish is Mackie's command.

The Big Knob is a simple yet powerful desktop audio control center that lets musicians and engineers get right to the business of making music in four major ways: Level control, studio monitor selection, input source selection and talkback & headphone control.

Using a big, convenient volume knob, the Big Knob lets you adjust volume levels the way our ancient audio ancestors (Analogus Engineerus) did, with a simple, intuitive knob, not with a mouse and screen. The end result is a higher degree of precision and much quicker level adjustments.

When it comes to mixing, pros know it's best to get a second, and third, opinion. So the Big Knob lets you quickly switch between 3 pairs of studio monitors, or 2 studio monitors and a subwoofer, or studio monitors and a home stereo, or any other combination of powered speakers.

On the input side, the Big Knob lets you connect up to 4 stereo input sources at once. This means you can simultaneously connect to your computer/DAW outputs, CD player, cassette deck and even a turntable using the premium onboard RIAA preamp. You can even connect keyboards, guitars, drum machines, samplers, anything you'd like to hear, through your monitors. This makes the Big Knob great for comparing your mixes-in-progress to your favorite CDs, for archiving your old LPs, jamming along to your favorite tune, and lots more.

With its built-in talkback mic and spring-loaded activation switches, the Big Knob lets you quickly communicate with musicians in both the studio and tracking room, no more hand signals through the glass. The Big Knob also sports 2 high-powered headphone outputs with a discrete headphone mix bus, solving the communications needs of most computer-based studios.

Although its shiny silver knob is a head-turning feature, the Big Knob's rear panel is equally impressive. There you'll find three distinct Monitor outputs with individual level control; 2-track A and 2-track B stereo outputs with level selection switches; a DAW stereo output for your computer; a studio output with level control; a phones mix input with level selection switch; 2-track A and 2-track B stereo source inputs with level control; a DAW mix input from your computer with level control; and even a phono input with level control for direct connection to your turntable.

Because the Big Knob plays a crucial link between recording output(s) and studio monitors, Mackie placed the utmost importance on pristine, no-compromise sound quality. For this reason, the Big Knob features ultra low-noise op amps, extremely low-tolerance components and state-of-the-art surface mount technology. All of this ensures superb sound in critical listening environments and long-term reliability, even under daily, and nightly, studio use.

Single 6" high resolution studio reference monitor speaker
Review: It was through Mackie's innovation and commitment to great sound, that Mackie managed to redefine the studio monitor. With high ingenuity at work, Mackie have reinvented their HR series to bring you the new HR624mk2 high resolution active studio reference monitor.

The HR624mk2 delivers better sound quality in a stunning new package. The precisely engineered contours of the cast aluminum Zero Edge Baffle minimize diffraction for a crystal clear image of your mix and control sound waves so you get detailed lows, full and articulate mids as well as shimmering highs whether you're on axis or off. Working in concert with the baffle's contours, the unique passive radiator design delivers astonishing bass extension that''s super-tight and always distortion-free. Wide, even dispersion of all frequencies as well as incredible depth of field allow you to accurately hear your mix, transforming your studio's sweet spot into a full-on sweet zone. In addition, the high-gloss piano black wood cabinet not only looks hot, but also adds just enough warmth so your sound is true, not sterile.

The Mackie HR624mk2 was created with high definition audio in mind with such unbelievable sound quality, there's little wonder why the HR624mk2 was approved for THX pm3 compliance on its initial trial. THX pm3 certification means that the HR624mk2 has met the stringent standards set by THX for outstanding performance and that this monitor can be used with confidence by anyone seeking THX certification for their studio or striving to maintain THX standards.

The Mackie HR624mk2 delivers superior performance and design, making itself a truly pro monitoring solution for today's studio.

Review: The Mackie Thump series powered loudspeakers deliver deep low-end and real power in a lightweight design that is extremely portable. The Class-D Fast Recovery amplification pushes unmatched power to the high-frequency compression driver and bass-pounding high-output woofer. Plus, Mackie Active processing, including a precision crossover and driver time-alignment provides total optimization for maximum system efficiency. Versatile by design, the Thump loudspeakers feature a user-adjustable 3-band EQ for tone control and, since they can be pole-mounted or used as a wedge, the Thump series loudspeakers represent the best value available for a complete stage solution.

Sure, the Thump loudspeakers have a built-in power ampiin fact, each have 2 of them. The Mackie Class-D Fast Recovery low-frequency amp drives the woofer more efficiently with less heat byproduct than other speakers. But so much more goes into a Mackie loudspeaker design than just amplifiers. Mackie Active technology (based on the popular SRMv2 series) divides the frequencies via a precision 2-way crossover and also time aligns the signals so low-frequency and high-frequency signals arrive in sync to every member of your audience. Active compression provides a first line of defense for the drivers and thermal circuitry protects the amplifiers and power supply should things get too hot. All the onboard electronic systems work together dynamically to produce superior quality sound previously unavailable in this price range.

For most people, portability is paramount. That's why Thump loudspeakers are ultra-compact and lightweight, especially the TH-12A which is less than 2 feet tall and weighs in just over 25 lbs. Regardless of application, there's a right Thump for the job. Both deliver unmatched low end, that's why they are Thumps. For vocal-only scenarios and applications with acoustic instruments that require superior midrange, the TH-12A shines.

Not only are Thump loudspeakers superb PA enclosures, they also make a superior monitor wedgeijust lay the cabinet on its side and turn it up. The compact, lightweight design means zero strain, whether mounting it on a high pole or loading up the van. Ultra-wide frequency response makes them ideal as a keyboard, vocal or even bass guitar monitor. Thump loudspeakers have incredibly smooth response and dispersion over a wide range of frequencies, so you can crank 'em up and they still sound smooth and never harsh.

The Thump series powered loudspeakers put out a tremendous amount of sound for their size and price tag. The 2-way ported design generates ample quantities of chest-pounding bass, and their 1" compression driver ensures smooth, wide dispersion. Mackie even inserted a 3-band equalizer at the input to give you all the tonal control you could ever want, with an available 15 dB boost or cut at 80Hz (low shelf), 100Hz to 8 kHz (sweepable mids) and 12kHz (high shelf). With their extremely versatile EQ, you can add some extra thump to that kick drum, bring out the sizzle in your hi-hats, add pop to vocals or correct acoustic anomalies in the room.

Because Mackie know you demand the most from your speakers, they added some extra circuitry to keep your Thump loudspeakers performing at their best, even when pushed really hard for long periods of time. Each driver has its own transparent compression circuit, which helps protect them from damaging transient peaks. An over-excursion filter, inserted just before the low frequency amplifier, protects the woofer from bottoming-out when the low-end is driven to the maximum. This means you can hit them hard without fear of thermal damage. Mackie know things can get pretty hot in the real world, so if the electronics do overheat, separate thermal switches activate and shut down the high and/or low frequency amplifiers until they cool down. These safeguards ensure long life and great-sounding loudspeakers you can always count on.
