Review: Mainframe Recordings stands proudly at the forefront of Austria's drum & bass scene. Finishing the last decade with a number of big releases, they look to carry on the momentum with a huge release schedule for 2010. The "Rebound EP" however displays another side to the label, opting to remove themselves from their big room sound on this release.

Label boss Disaszt opens the release with the title track. Whilst always maintaining his trademark club dancefloor vibe, the Austrian takes an experimental approach to this one with some off-kilter drum & bass. Threatening vocals and twisted basslines make this a real monster in the true sense of the word. Exorcist, Imprintz and Kloe then come in to take us along the cinematic journey of "Dusk." A rolling drum & bass number, it wraps some rich breaks around waves of ambient sounds and reverbed guitar licks.

"The Message," courtesy of Eastcolors delves into leftfield even deeper. Sonic sounds and raining chimes mask this compelling vocal as heavy sub bass warbles through your entire body. BTK & Resound finish off the release in style with the dub infused "Phantom Serenade." Brisk percussion, sinister keys, shuffling breaks and deep sub bass make this effort an eerily mind bending slice of modern drum & bass.

Clearly an imprint dedicated to quality and innovation, it is releases like this one that have set Mainframe Recordings head and shoulders above the rest. As they continue to push things forward into new and uncharted territory, the legacy of the Austrian label will only continue to build throughout the years.

Review: Teaming up new talent Fred V and Grafix, alongside Goldie's engineer Heist, new Shogun Audio signing The Prototypes, BTK and Resound, this is a killer EP in the making, no question. "One Of These Days" gets the party started with an upbeat vocal sample, cheery instrumentals and overwhelming feel good spirit. "Inner Being" shakes things up with battering bass, a trance-y breakdown and dancefloor appeal a-plenty, whilst "Outcast" utilises a filthy bassline, taught metallic synths and screeching SFX to great effect. Finishing up with "No Mess" it's a medley of tough drums, sonic compression and mounting menace - one for the soldiers.

Review: Massive stadium-smashing dubstep vibes from the Antipodean quarters as the saucily-named-but-savagely sounding Naked Fish lets rip with an all-out vocal bass assault. "Black Clouds" sees Delight's emphatic vocals massaging the soul as Mr Fish's turbo bass riff shatters houses within a two mile radius. "Twisted" is equally mesmerising with its breath-taking piano riff, spiralling angular arpeggio and space-shooting vocal loop. With day time radio playlist and 'lighters up' written all over them, the Aussie dubstep crowd are shining right now.
