Review: After the original release of the face-melting "Swamp Thing" comes this tasty "Sequel", featuring four top new mixes. Rhythmatic frames the original's distinctive technoid vocals in a chunky bass and beats package, dropping the pitch of the robot voice as it drops into the choruses. Hector Hernandez on the other hand slows things down a little but adds some fiendish glitch-bass to the mix as well as some fresh and organic percussion hits. Socco Chico turns in a devilish mix, nicely matching the "You monster" lines from the vocal, while Kickflip aims his mix squarely at the floor with a really stomping breakbeat burner.

Review: A welcome return for musical maverick and serial bassline fancier Si Begg, this time with a track that sits somewhere between electro house, a stoned version of Switch-ish fidget and his usual warped bassline madness. It's breezy, glitchy and heavy enough to do serious damage on dancefloors. The gluttonous remix package includes a delightfully old skool, borderline rave version from Rhythmatic (presumably the same Rhythmatic of bleep-era "Take Me Back" fame, at least we hope so), a warped tech-house tweak from Mike Lennon and a 'hard to describe but melodically pleasing' rework from Travino.

Review: True pioneers of the scene, Unique 3 have been involved in all aspects of British underground dance music since the early 80s. They even claim to be the first dance act to ever sample the Amen break, which puts them at the front of a long, long line of artists. Through hip-hop and house, they've inspired the Chemicals through to Goldie, and their classic "The Theme" was voted the Hacienda's Number 1 anthem EVER by the Manchester club's DJ alumni.

This latest release sees them paired up with vocalist Adele Collins and it's a tasty slice of Breakbeat joy with some nice gurgling acid synths that will remind listeners of the old-skool days. It's poppy enough to work in a variety of different sets, but there also are a host of remixes to choose from, many of which are done within the Mutate family. Si Begg for example comes in with a storming mix, with some seriously tight and dynamic production that shows he's at the top of his game right now. The Underpass Re-Route goes for a slightly softer approach, putting the vocals right out front and giving them a diva-ish feel, nicely backed up by some retro drum machine sounds.

Anyone familiar with Cakeboy's full frontal live set's will know what to expect from his mix, while other mixes by Milanese, Jedeye and Monstr round off this EP nicely. Well worth checking them all out.

Review: The bass fanatics at the Mutate label usher in their first jams of the new year with twelve of the best from their roster of electronica-cum-wobbly tech-breaks and dubstep producers. Among our favourites so far are AC Revery's ambient-leaning "Sweeping Sunset", the mean glacial half-step of Mike Lennon's "Bleepwalker" and the timeless dancehall-electro of Koian's severly bumping "Boomshot". There's plenty to get stuck into here though over these 12 juiced-up tracks - a must for fans of superior breaks and bass.
