Review: Veteran South Coast bassheads Aquasky have been around longer than the Ark, constantly changing shape to keep abreast of current musical trends. This remix EP is a great case in point. The headline-grabbing track is a wobbly, pulsing dubstep work of Diane Charlemagne collaboration "Take Me There" that should appeal to a wide range of bass fiends. Then there's the Jay Robinson rework, which smashes together old skool hardcore and contemporary dubstep to devastating effect. The EP closes with a 601 remake of "Feel The Sound", which hits all the retro-rave buttons with its original hardcore breaks, junglist snares and warped noises.

Review: Already packing some enthusiastic support from Calvertron, Flore and Peo De Pite, 601 are back with another of their unique breakbeat/jungle hybrids, this time on Aquasky's Passenger label. Review: Equally at home with breaks and D&B, as well as the electro-house of their Black Noise alias, the trio behind Aquasky return with these two new crucial tunes that see them fuse breaks and tech-funk with a grimey attitude and dubstep bass. "Take Me There" chops and drops vocals from Diane Charlemagne over a punishing switch-step beat and an enormous lead sound, while "Feel The Sound" is a 130bpm blow-out that shows that, despite having formed in the mid-90s, the lads have relentlessly avoided going soft over time. Hard, floor-filling stuff and a perfect combination of styles.

Review: One of the key components in the "drumstep" revolution that's sweeping the airwaves between D&B and dubstep at the moment, Kenny Ken's son Crissy Criss goes in on the Bill Posters' original "Hold On" with all the reckless abandon the 1Xtra DJ regularly displays in his expansive, pedal-to-the-metal mixes. Cavorting breaks are coupled with rave-addled synth chords and whinnying vocals here; not so much falling into the drop as storming into it, with a frenzy of drum rolls, bass wobbles and synth jitters, it's turbo-charged right from the start and doesn't let up until the end. Review: Returning back to their original alias after taking time out with their electro-excursion Black Noise, Aquasky are here again and in the house with long time collaborators the Ragga Twins on these two newies. "Living Legends" brilliantly uses the parts of "Amen Brother" most other producers send straight to the recycle bin, and combined with the twins ever-powerful vocals, it's a straight-up slammer. "Raggatron" comes over all early-'80s electro with thrilling effect, and mixes from Rennie Pilgrim and Sly & Pasco on a D&B hype don't disappoint either. Review: After an almost constant stream of great singles, EPs and remixes over the past six months, Nick Thayer's album finally drops and it definitely lives up to the hype. Encompassing all the colours of the rave rainbow (breakbeat, electro, hip-hop and dubstep all fused together), it's a full on party album from start to end and a real triumph for the Australian DJ. The Daft Punk-isms of "Bring On The Drums" kick things off with style. Thayer has a knack of making any tempo work, and so even a moderately slow tune like this one still gets filled out and beefed up so well that it's impossible not to throw yourself around after seconds. "Alarm Bells" picks up the pace soon after and mixes Crookers beats with martian-synths and some eye-watering builds. With sixteen hardcore gems on the album, Nick Thayer's certainly excelled himself on Just Let It Go.

Review: Golden boy of the breaks scene, Nick Thayer just keeps on getting bigger and better. With an album called "Just Let It Go" dropping soon, Zombies is a reminder of why the world is going loopy over the kid from Melbourne. With a slightly funky swing to the drums and some chunky bass rocking through the track, it's a winner that carries off some Thriller-style spooky vocals over the beats. Manchester's HeavyFeet take it and increase the funk a little, scaling back the bass and instead adding some tickling percussion along the way.

Another new Thayer song, Just Let It Go is a pleasing dip into midtempo hip-hop, with vocalist NFA asking "have you ever been with two girls at the same time?". Fort Knox Five keep their mix low-down and funky while Cutline speed things up and turn in a dizzying smasher, chopping the vocals and making it work like a chant over the slippery bass and kick-ass drums. Gimme Some More feat. Sporty-O keeps the hip-hop connection running, while Thayer himself has fun remixing it for the floor - upping the tempo and adding a fidget beat to the fun. Not only is this another blinding release from Thayer. it also makes the album seem like it's going to be simply huge!

Review: This Australian breaks DJ has been a rising star over the last few years. Initially making his name as a DJ, playing alongside FreQ Nasty, Soul of Man and the Stanton Warriors as resident of Melbourne club Out of Order, he's moved into production with ease. With remixes of The Stantons and Deekline under his belt, this new EP sees Thayer hitting harder than ever.

Title track Ca$h Money is a blinder, a peak-time slice of ravey goodness that's sure to work well on any number of dancefloors. Get Dum is even funkier and a proper delight for DJ's, with countless drops to hold people's attention and an intro that practically launches itself like a rocket.

Trevor Loveys teams up with Thayer on Dirty Lickin', which has some nice Ghetto-Tech style vocals that take the tune into a brand new dimension about half way through, proving that when DJ's write their own material, it's always with the crowd in mind.
