Review:
Munich label Permanent Vacation continue their fine run of form, pairing a label stalwart with a relative newcomer with excellent results. Bostro Pesopeo has featured on many a Permanent Vacation release since his debut back in 2008, whilst Pional may have only recently joined the PV canon, though his work presents a further strengthening in the bond between the label and Hivern Discs. Yes is notable for two things; the multi-faceted approach to the music and Pional's hitherto unrecorded singing voice (soon to be heard on John Talabot's album for Permanent Vacation). Along with the swinging, twilight 2-step future boogie of the title track, the duo veer through 80s tinged new wave and more familiar kraut indebted house music (the excellent "Baby Blue"), and what really impresses is the attention to detail and organic feel across each track.

Review:
When it comes to disco reversions, remixers don't come much bigger than Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani. Here we find him slicing up intriguing new synth pop act Disco Double. The main mix rolls with a delightfully playful analogue bassline that complements every second the falsetto vocals. For something a little deeper head for the spit-roast dub where the drums are stripped back to a more tribal flavour and the synths are dubbed out to perfection. Release your "Demons" within today!

Review:
If you multiplied the slices of toast you've consumed your entire life by a hundred it might come close to the vast array of aliases undertaken by ED DMX in a career that spans over fifteen years and releases on imprints as disparate as Rephlex, Turbo and Soul Jazz. A relationship with Permanent Vacation which began with the German label reissuing Ed DMX's "Come To Me" back in 09 is further cemented with these four tracks of original material from the producer. The title track is here in two forms, both of which have a decidedly Cold Wave feel (an aesthetic that is clearly echoed on the cover art) and sees Ed's own distinct tones punctuated by a heavy synth backing sat atop punchy drums. It's a really strong look and you could easily mistake the Dance Mix for something from the early 80s. Complementing this on the B Side are two instrumental disco boogie jams heavy on the analogue arpeggio hits with "Disco Theme" impressing in particular.

Review:
Permanent Vacation has been responsible for some truly great music over the years, but never seems to get as much credit as the artists whose material they release. For example, many people will have rightfully enjoyed John Talabot's recent album fIN without having any prior knowledge of the Munich based label that it was released on. It's perhaps the greatest compliment you can lay on the lap of Permanent Vacation that they seem content for this to be the status quo, happy for people to focus their affections on the music rather than the label. The imprint's latest will undoubtedly ensure more fanfare is directed at Jacob Korn and PV regulars GoodGuy Mikesh and Filburt as "Phillip Dolphia" is a wondrous slice of European deep house bristling with summer intentions and dominated by that thick string laden touch at its core. "The Ranch" presents the trio in more downtrodden mood, while Bobby Johnson's stalwart Lauer is a nice choice to roughen up the track with a crystalline electro remix dominated by that brutal kick drum.

Review:
Newly transplanted to Australia, Greenskeeper don James Curd demonstrates he's lost none of his knack for crafting deliciously danceable electro funk grooves with his latest offering on Permanent Vacation. "Open Up Your Mind" is the first of hopefully many collaborations with vocalist Devin Byrnes, whose spoken word delivery is the perfect foil for a vertical glam house throb from Curd. There's a tongue in cheek menace to the darkly lysergic melodies that you'd expect from Curd, but it's matched by an inherent infectiousness. This is probably his best work since the ubiquitous DFA single a few years ago, and there's even an instro version for those who prefer their house music sans chatter.

Review:
Irishman Mano Le Tough is no stranger to the Permanent Vacation fold, having graced the label's recent If This Is House Zwei compilation as well as turning a remix of Midnight Magic. The artist/label relationship is further strengthened here with a full EP that acts as a neat soupcon to chew on until the main Mano Le Tough course arrives via his debut album - slated for transmission on Buzzin' Fly in the coming months. Arriving with the most literal artwork so far this year, Mountains is three tracks deep with the sort of sumptuous cooing house music Le Tough has trademark of late, with the title track a particular delight. From its fizzing beginnings, "Mountains" gradually unfurls into a floating dose of kaleidoscopic, psychedelic kraut house that wouldn't sound out of place on Kompakt. "She Said" deviates into what sounds like a traditional Irish folk ditty in the midst of its organic techno refrain, whilst the glistening patterns of sound and colour that permeate through the loose aqua house jam "Even Now" will please staunch fans of Permanent Vacation.

Review:
Numbering musicians from LA, Copenhagen and Auckland amongst their ranks, Parallel Dance Ensemble perhaps epitomise the far reaching remit of Permanent Vacation. Debuting on the Munich label with the digital-only Possessions & Obsessions last March, the band now return in typically well curated remix EP form. Any record that puts the likes of Max D and Maxxi Soundsystem alongside a rarely used collaboration moniker between Studio Barnhus' Boman and Petter (Salax Peep Show) and the Perm Vac mainstays Spectacle is going to get the disco whiskers twitching and your intrigue will be well rewarded here. It's rare that a production from Future Times boss man Max D gets trumped in our affections but the moment the bass line drops on the Maxxi Soundsystem remix of "Shopping Cart" is a real joy to behold!

Review:
Pional's graduation from Hivern to Permanent Vacation with Last House On The Left is further proof that like John Talabot, merely tossing him in the categories of deep house or nu disco is being disingenuous. Across the three tracks Pional displayed with panache his innate talent for singularly interesting productions with "Where Eagles Dare" offering the most immediate moment. A glistening slant on punchy jacking rhythms underlined by those trademark floating vocals, the playful way it explodes into colour remains long in your memory.

Review:
There are two things Permanent Vacation do so very well; uncover and release music from the quirkier end of the electronic spectrum and commission some equally interesting producers to remix their output. This latest EP from the Munich based emporium epitomises those qualities perfectly with material from last year's Pollyester album Earthly Powers remixed by the likes of Baris K, Pional and Prins Thomas. It's the latter who kicks proceedings off with a trademark Diskomiks of "Concierge D'Amour" which presents the track as a taut, snapping disco burner which makes full usage of the excitable vocals of Polina Lapkovskaya. The label bosses also remix this track, wisely veering off into deep house territory on a rearrangement that is structured perfectly for early hours mood setting. Madrid based producer Pional serves further notice of his flourishing potential with a remix of "Voices" that has a touch of vintage Soft Cell to it, Baris K's rendition is built around a throbbing electronic bassline and plenty of Eurasian instrumental flourishes whilst Rory Phillips reps the UK Disco with a real throbber.

Review:
If you missed out on their recent vinyl releases, this five-track digital EP offers an excellent introduction to German art-disco trio Pollyester. Alongside a brand new track - the thrilling leftfield disco epic "You Are Amen" - you get both singles ("German Love Letter" and "Round Clocks"), plus excellent, stripped-down, dancefloor-friendly reworks from Mock & Toof (whose dubbed-out remix of "The Indian" sounds like a long lost DFA track) and Permanent Vacation. All five tracks are worth investigating, not least for their sassy fusion of off-kilter disco percussion, new wave posturing and punk-funk energy.
