Review:
Through his various releases on Internasjonal, Buzzin' Fly and Mirau, Neil "Mano Le Tough" Mannion has done enough to suggest that he has a great album in him. Even his most dancefloor-centric deep house cuts, such as the much played "Stories", come complete with emotion-rich melodies and bags of heady atmosphere. It's these two characteristics that shine through most on Changing Days, his long-mooted debut album for Permanent Vacation. Largely downbeat in mood and tempo, it bristles with atmosphere and inventiveness, weighing in somewhere between teary-eyed deep house and glacial electronica. As debut albums go, it's pretty darn good.

Review:
There are two things Permanent Vacation do so very well; uncover and release music from the quirkier end of the electronic spectrum and commission some equally interesting producers to remix their output. This latest EP from the Munich based emporium epitomises those qualities perfectly with material from last year's Pollyester album Earthly Powers remixed by the likes of Baris K, Pional and Prins Thomas. It's the latter who kicks proceedings off with a trademark Diskomiks of "Concierge D'Amour" which presents the track as a taut, snapping disco burner which makes full usage of the excitable vocals of Polina Lapkovskaya. The label bosses also remix this track, wisely veering off into deep house territory on a rearrangement that is structured perfectly for early hours mood setting. Madrid based producer Pional serves further notice of his flourishing potential with a remix of "Voices" that has a touch of vintage Soft Cell to it, Baris K's rendition is built around a throbbing electronic bassline and plenty of Eurasian instrumental flourishes whilst Rory Phillips reps the UK Disco with a real throbber.

Review:
When it comes to disco reversions, remixers don't come much bigger than Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani. Here we find him slicing up intriguing new synth pop act Disco Double. The main mix rolls with a delightfully playful analogue bassline that complements every second the falsetto vocals. For something a little deeper head for the spit-roast dub where the drums are stripped back to a more tribal flavour and the synths are dubbed out to perfection. Release your "Demons" within today!

Review:
German art-pop duo Pollyester have a lot going for them, not least a signature style that seems simultaneously comfortingly retro and thrillingly futuristic. In layman's terms, that basically means that Earthy Powers, their debut full-length, is distinctively stylish. Think English vocals with heavy German accents atop a smart, occasionally sparkling mix of new wave pop, heavy kraut disco (see, in particular, the wonky electrofunk of "Concierge D'Amour"), lo-slung dub-funk (the deliriously cosmic "Indian") and vintage synth grooves. Crucially, there's plenty of authentic fuzziness amongst the sharp brightness something that ensures that Earthly Powers delivers both style and substance.

Review:
When quizzed about his debut full-length before a Juno Plus party last year, John Talabot paused for a minute. "It's not really house, more electronica - like a proper album," he finally remarked. It's an apt description. Fin is clearly rooted in house - and the kind of melody-driven, atmospheric tackle that the Barcelona-based producer excels at - but it's certainly not a dancefloor-focused set. There are off-kilter downtempo moments, slo-mo compositions and twisted beatscapes that recall the impossible-to-pigeonhole antics of Hyetal (circa "Broadcast"), Sepalcure and Instra:Mental. Then there's closer "So Will Be Now" (one of two collaborations with Pional), a near-genius chunk of future garage/deep acid house fusion that's so beautiful it almost hurts. As transformations go, Fin is stunning.

Review:
Second time around for John Talabot's brilliant debut album Fin, an expansive exercise in woozy dark-pop, off-kilter dream house and inventive IDM. This time round, the album has been padded out using a mix of previously released remixes, unheard versions and previously unreleased bonus cuts. There are some real gems among the nine additional tracks, from Bullion's breezy, off-kilter pop take on "Destiny" and the shimmering electronica of "Tragedial", to a hitherto unheard 'album version' of Talabot's seminal breakthrough cut, "Matilda's Dream". The droning synth-pop of "I Want Tonight" also impresses, as does the skittering rhythms and bold synths of "Zanzibar (80tapemix)". In truth, it's all pretty hot.

Review:
If you missed out on their recent vinyl releases, this five-track digital EP offers an excellent introduction to German art-disco trio Pollyester. Alongside a brand new track - the thrilling leftfield disco epic "You Are Amen" - you get both singles ("German Love Letter" and "Round Clocks"), plus excellent, stripped-down, dancefloor-friendly reworks from Mock & Toof (whose dubbed-out remix of "The Indian" sounds like a long lost DFA track) and Permanent Vacation. All five tracks are worth investigating, not least for their sassy fusion of off-kilter disco percussion, new wave posturing and punk-funk energy.

Review:
Munich label Permanent Vacation serve up a second helping of If This Is House I Want My Money Back, presenting twelve tracks of truly cosmopolitan house from some of the best producers out there. Familiar Vacationers such as the Hivern duo of Talabot and Pional return (and provide two of the compilations highlights) along with the likes of Jacob Korn and naturally Permanent Vacation themselves. New arrivals feature more prominently here, and justify their inclusion most notably "Excited", the rough hewn warehouse endeavour from Future Times duo Beautiful Swimmers. The aforementioned Talabot jam "Leave Me" provides the most immediate gratification, demonstrating the Spaniard's true panache for teasing out obscure samples across a track that is constantly twisting with life. However it's surrounded by eleven productions that reveal their own brilliance with time and that's surely the mark of a fine compilation.

Review:
Pional's graduation from Hivern to Permanent Vacation with Last House On The Left is further proof that like John Talabot, merely tossing him in the categories of deep house or nu disco is being disingenuous. Across the three tracks Pional displayed with panache his innate talent for singularly interesting productions with "Where Eagles Dare" offering the most immediate moment. A glistening slant on punchy jacking rhythms underlined by those trademark floating vocals, the playful way it explodes into colour remains long in your memory.

Review:
One letter away from being in the possibly the greatest doo-wap band of all time, Mark Flynn (aka the Berling-dwelling The Drifter), drops his debut solo release on the esteemed Permanent Vacation. Much like the music played at the club, Passion Beat, that he runs with Mano Le Tough, the Lovers EP features three tracks of sumptuous, moody house music. "Day And Night" features shimmering snowflakes of synth coupled with Flynn's breathy tones. "Another Chance" meanwhile boasts a shuffly beat and a lovely Balearic-style lilt, while the sultry title track is a right old moody pout of a tune.

Review:
Irishman Mano Le Tough is no stranger to the Permanent Vacation fold, having graced the label's recent If This Is House Zwei compilation as well as turning a remix of Midnight Magic. The artist/label relationship is further strengthened here with a full EP that acts as a neat soupcon to chew on until the main Mano Le Tough course arrives via his debut album - slated for transmission on Buzzin' Fly in the coming months. Arriving with the most literal artwork so far this year, Mountains is three tracks deep with the sort of sumptuous cooing house music Le Tough has trademark of late, with the title track a particular delight. From its fizzing beginnings, "Mountains" gradually unfurls into a floating dose of kaleidoscopic, psychedelic kraut house that wouldn't sound out of place on Kompakt. "She Said" deviates into what sounds like a traditional Irish folk ditty in the midst of its organic techno refrain, whilst the glistening patterns of sound and colour that permeate through the loose aqua house jam "Even Now" will please staunch fans of Permanent Vacation.
