The unstoppable Ganjoid is on a fine run of form at the moment; the artist seems to be delivering new releases for Philthrtrax with each new week, and each one of them have made us reevaluate the current state of the wider 'footwork' sound. Tunes like "Shadows", with its subtle nod to house, bring about a refreshing take on a genre that can all too often sound stale and rehearsed, and something as hybrid-like as "Oceans Unknown" manages to incorporate some electro to the picture. "Westcoast Mentality" brings hip-hop chopping to a mutant bass groove, and "From Outer Space" goes for the all-out mean lean thanks to a slow, meandering rhythm backed by aqueous sounds and crunchy percussion stabs. Yes...
It's been a while since Shannon Reddy last blessed us with his fusions. Making up for lost time, he lays down four cold jams that sit perfectly in the jungle/juke/ghettotech axis Philthtrax have made their home. From the shimmering, slightly detuned Detroit synth stabs and upbeat swag of "Up The Block" to the rampant starlight stepping 23rd century jazz jive "Polaroid", Plot Twist has delivered his deepest and most intriguing and immersive EP to date. There's no saying 'cheese' when this camera flashes.
