Review: Italian producer Enzo Ponzio has been shuffling around the fringes of the European nu-disco scene for some time, showcasing his own twenty-first century take on the classic Italo and cosmic disco sound. Here, two of his earlier works get re-booted by fellow Italians Discodromo and London's Kid Who. The latter re-casts 2007's "My 80's Funk" as a chunky Balearic groover, building a satisfyingly dubby groove around twittering synths, reverb-laden guitars and some exquisite piano flourishes. Discodromo, on the other hand, opt for a more obviously electronic sound, placing sci-fi bleeps and subtle string stabs at the heard of a classy nu-disco rework.

Review: Serial nu-dusco fancier Kelton Prima returns with an EP for shiny electronic disco label Pizzico Nobel. The French knob-twiddler here offers something a bit different, largely abandoning the synthesizers in favour of dubbed-out guitars, drums and strings. The result is a soaring, slo-mo vocal number that has more in common with soul or pop than haircut-friendly electronic disco. There are two remixes, of which Johnny Paguro provides the most noteworthy. His twisted rub takes the original's dubbiness to extremes, turning in a filter-heavy slo-mo dub that should find favour with anyone who likes their disco sweet and dubbed-out.

Review: With "Ursa Major", Kid Who somehow manages to combine the feeling of gazing into the heavens with the dynamics of dancing in a dark, sweaty basement around 5am. It's bold, brash, devilishly percussive and, thrillingly, stupendously heavy. "Ursa Minor" tries the same trick, introducing some darting original electro percussion and explosive synth noises that sound like the sountrack to a far-off intergalactic battle. Also worth checking is "Cadenza", a piano-laden disco-not-disco excursion that introduces some twinkling Balearic vibes to an otherwise dark and pulsing EP. Enzo Ponzio provides a solid remix, twisting the track into hypnotic nu-disco shapes.

Review: The continuing worldwide interest in Italo disco seems to have inspired a whole new generation of Italian producers. Here Marco Antonio Spaventi gives his take on noughties Italo, mixing bold nu-disco sounds with the appregiated thump of original 80s Italian disco. Both "Partire Ritonaire" - the lead cut, and an exercise in fusing strange autotune vocals and camp dancefloor strut - and the more fluorescent "Fungus Land" offer a distinct take on the modern Italian sound, and will undoubtedly prove popular across Europe. The two included remixes are pretty good, too, with both Mushrooms Project and Billy Bogus opting to slow the tempo and get heavy on the dub effects.

Review: Mushrooms Project are notoriously hard to pin down. One minute they're making off-kilter nu-disco or Baldelli-style kosmiche, the next intriguing leftfield electronica. Here, they offer up something that blends all three, building a dark, atmospheric track that goes through multiple changes during its nine-minute duration. There are weirdy cosmic disco guitars, foreboding sequenced synths, twiddly Japanese melodies and dub effects by the skipload. It's actually rather good, recalling the recent output of the hugely talented Cos/Mes. "Sushi's Dinner" offers more straightforward nu-disco thrills, albeit with a healthy dose of typically Italian cosmic groovery.
