Review:
Hold tight Planet Mu fans! There's a Boxcutter album on the horizon. Yes, you heard. Otherwise known as Barry Lynn, the Irish dubstep, or now, probably more accurately described as "post-dubstep" artist, Boxcutter has been responsible for some superb Sqaurepusher, DJ Shadow and Four Tet influenced cuts in recent times on labels such as Planet Mu, Hotflush, Abucs and Kinnego ever since he made his debut in 2005. This is the first single to be taken from the aforementioned LP, The Dissolve, which is due to land in record stores next month and wow, are we excited about it! Getting straight down to business with DNA-bothering track "Allele", Boxcutter kicks off with some hollowed, distanced metallic SFX and purposeful clinking synth keys before building up textures to form the main tune. "Other People", meanwhile, tunes into a more pared down vibe with shaking maracas providing a nice texture beneath the squeaky synth flourishes and glazed 2 step drums, which set the pace for the piece. Delectable, tripped out electronica here and the sounds of now from Boxcutter... relish it.

Review:
Perhaps the most exciting thing about Barry Lynn's work as Boxcutter is its improbable brilliance. A lot of his musical combinations, sideways steps and inventive fusions shouldn't work, yet by and large, they do - and then some. The Dissolve, his fourth full-length for Planet Mu, is full to bursting with such crazed, unlikely genius - magical blends of star-gazing boogie, 2-step, wobbly rave, blissful electronica, nu-disco, dub, breaks, jazz, slo-mo grooves, Balearica and god knows what else. On paper, it looks a mess, but it sounds great. It's melodic, memorable... even monumental. He's a serious talent, all right.

Review:
A Chicago native who's been slowly extolling the virtues of juke music over the last few years, Chrissy Murderbot's Women's Studies release dovetails perfectly with Planet Mu's growing interest in footwerk and juke. However despite the creepy, detuned footwerk opener "Break U Off", it's hard to categorise this excellent album. Jammin Gerald and DJ Funk influences combine with a sped-up sample of Dayton's "The Sound Of Music" on single "Bussin Down", while crunk rhymes appear on "Bump Uglies" and there's Major Lazer-esque tropi-pop on "Pelvic Floor" too. Old-school Planet Mu fans will also get a kick out of the furious "Jiggle" - just another strand of this fascinatingly diverse album.

Review:
Another name rising to notoriety amidst the surge of interest in juke, DJ Diamond serves up his album Flight Muzik. Much like his contemporary DJ Spinn, he pitches a more palatable form of the music that dodges the dance tool nature of the sound in its purest form. The nagging looped samples remain, but in many cases they're placed in a more ambient atmosphere, crafted with the home listener in mind. There are times on tracks like "Torture Rack", when the sound design gets quite sophisticated, but mostly the tracks remain primal and wonderfully weird extrapolations of Chicago dance music.

Review:
Combining the considerable force of Machinedrum and Om Unit in a frenzied distilling of the pair's penchant for old-skool breaks and the hyper-rhythms of footwork, Dream Continuum bring a rough and cheeky energy to bear on their first release on Planet Mu. "Giv A Lil Luv" shows no shame in slicing up Lisa Stansfield in a celebratory mash-up of 90s rave stabs, rolling jungle flurries and intricate drum machine work. "Set It" is more overt in its love of Chicago's latest gift to the world, mixing nagging toms with a tasty ragga twist for an absolute dancehall destroyer.
