The wobble jump up pioneer is on fine, fine form at the moment. Having torn dancefloors apart with the incredible "Busta Move" earlier in '11, Hazard returns with one of his strongest productions since the Machete Mass EP in 2008. The delectable sounds of "Food Fight" have been blazing across the airwaves for the last few months now - expect uproarious bass pressure, spot on sampling, dramatic drops and grouchy, gritty bassline business before flipping over for the equally fabulous "Proteus". Here a tense, ticking intro leads into the creepy movie sampling and swaggering, slouchy bass driven beauty that makes up the main tune. A resounding thumbs up here!

Review:
The Birmingham based jump up maestro that is DJ Hazard continues to stun audiences across the globe with his signature shade of D&B. And it's safe to say that the hype surrounding "Never The Same EP" is well and truly warranted. Kicking off with the title track, the echoing vocal sample immediately gives the tune an epic, almost euphoric, quality; add grouchy bass, chiming SFX and punchy drums to the equation and you have an anthem in the making. But that's not all, no; "Air Guitar" ups the ante yet again with punishing, gritty roars and growling subs. "It's A Secret" is another wobbly jump up banger with Hazard written all over it, and then "Do Without You" twists things up with more bass-driven badness. This comes highly recommended for all D&B heads.

One of the True Playaz massive and a total legend in D&B, Hazard drops four new bombs on this lively new EP. "Psychedelic" lives up to its name with a range of perfectly arranged old vocal samples that Hazard drops with style over a fun jump-up beat. "Platinum Shadows" showcases some top drum arrangements, while "Against The Clock" packs some aggressive samples into the fun. "All I Can Say" wraps the set up nicely with some low squelchy bass once again anchoring rough and wicked beats. A legend who is just getting better, the Platinum Shadows EP is a must for D&B fans.

A superbly executed EP here, with VIP re-works from some of the key bods from the Playaz camp - the ineffable don of wobble jump up, DJ Hazard and his cohorts Erb N Dub, Legacy, Original Sin and brother Taxman, plus Friction and Nu Balance and newcomer Jaydan. First up is a delectable re-interpretation of massive 2011 hit "Food Fight" which draws out the vocal and juxtaposes it with grizzled bass. Next is "Alaska (VIP)" which is a glorious, fast-paced explosion of sound, and special mention must be made of the wonderful "Casino" VIP by Original Sin plus mid noughties classic "Robocop" which is updated by Taxman. Jaydan rounds things off in rowdy fashion with a VIP of "Driller Killer". An expansive package and a must buy.

Things get distinctly darker in the Playaz camp with the addition of US-based neuro / tech producer Gridlok's Smuggler release. Expect gnarly beats, ominous vocal samples and twisted, roughed up SFX to dominate the proceedings. First up, title track "Smuggler" promises a lot and delivers even more, with a tense intro of building bleeps and metallic flickers with vocodered spoken words adding even more sense of doom from above. The main track is full of gritty, grizzled synths, punchy drums and groaning bass. "After Midnite" sees a return to a late 90s Virus-esque sound, with epic choral-tinted intro giving way to the main tune which is all pounding drums with a raw, rough edge and classic stepper vibes.

LA's Gridlock and London's Prolix come together for this surprisingly smooth slice of jump-up on Playaz which has already had support from the 1Xtra crew and DJ Hype amongst others. Leaving their excessively screwed and sinister trademark sounds behind for this hook-up, they use MC Fats' soulful vocals to perfection, giving him a beat that bangs hard but won't make a party collectively scream for mercy. "Got To Roll" appears on the flip and nudges the tempo ever so slightly higher to create an atmospheric yet thoroughly banging skanker that'll keep loyal Playaz fans very happy indeed.

The Midnight Funk Association might have an influx of new members signing up after this EP hits home. Bringing his trademark bouncy basslines to a plethora of fresh, dancefloor-driven beats, the EP kicks off with its title track. Not wasting any time, Detail Records boss Lynx ramps up his sample-digging powers from the start. Following up with "Micro", firmer techy territory is explored, with industrial sounds and an irresistible dancehall beat that pounds like a jack-hammer until a dubby breakdown messes with your head. "Bobby Says" is a vintage horror movie soundtrack updated with jazzy breaks and Bobby Esmond's haunting rhymes tannoyed in from somewhere above the dry ice. Finally, "I Want You To Remember" is a straight-up frightfest, destined to spook late night ravers and scare the crap out of the headphone crew on the nightbus home. Lynx as you know him best, an original soundscaper.

The Playaz camp seem to be branching out of the jump up bracket of late and this release from underground originators, Need For Mirrors, spearheads this new direction for the label. Stripping things back to the bare essentials, NFM present a tough little beast in "Vimana" with its rough drums, booming bass and tenacious stepping pattern this is a proper heads down, hoods up late night killer. The accompanying cut is just as nasty; "Snubnose" boasts some awesome sub bass action with razor sharp snares and light percussion, it grabs the attention but is curiously calming too. An interesting release here, make no mistake.

Stepping straight back into the Playaz rosta as if they'd never been away, Optiv & BTK's Drop The Funk EP is an explosive piece of work, bursting with the energy and nasty riddims the two have become so well known for. Opening track "Slander" retches and steps its way through filthy bass, making way for the two minute build and subsequent ridiculous drop of "Drop The Funk" to completely decimate dancefloors across the globe. "Get Dark" does exactly that, pushing extreme bass pressure and high energy rolling rhythms, while "Hack And Slash" is an out and out hurter, twisting and constricting around tightly wound bass that pushes further down into the darkness. A nasty little EP full of massive ideas.

Original Sin has always been a go to name from the Playaz camp, renowned for his iconic jump up sound. Here he hits back hard with his "Mad World EP" which features six sick new cuts ready for consumption. Kicking off with the title track its all grinding mid range and rambunctious drum work from the off; next we have "You Skream" which juxtaposes spaced out breakdowns with more dubby, pumping elements. "Therapy (remix)" is all about the drums and metallic SFX, whilst "Vegas" sees Original Sin pick up the pace once again with more dancefloor focused badness. "Soul Food" is a killer, on a more stripped back tip, before "Donnie Darkness" brings the EP to a close.

The fully-fledged member of the Playaz camp returns to the fore, enormous synths and wobble implements in tow, for a storming EP on home turf. First up, "Original Badboy" (a tongue in cheek reference to his D&B counterpart Potential Badboy?!) kicks things off with a rattle of bass wobbles and screeching sirens, before "I Love It", a classic jump up cut, moves things forward. "Phantasm" is Original Sin all over, with tense, building intro, rollicking drop and unforgiving b-line action. Pairing up with his big bro Taxman for the grand finale, "Together" is a more sparse and musical offering, with glistening instrumentals and rattling breaks.

An enormous four-track split EP from D&B bad boys Original Sin and Taxman with one D&B track and one dubstep track from each. Older Tindall brother Taxman whips out the movie samples, crisp breaks and Nintendo bleeps in "Casino" - cheekily referencing Zinc's 2001 classic "Casino Royale" - whilst crazed lyrics, a screwfacing drop and gritty, drill-like b-line prevail in Original Sin's "Penamena". "Take No More" is a wild cacophony of whirring Doctor P synths, circus trills and mid range mayhem and "Like This" is a more bass-heavy venture, with an early HENCH sound to it.

A new name on the block, Placid provides the next installment from DJ Hype + Pascal's Playaz label and boy, what a release this is. "Particles" falls into the drop after a dramatic build with Netsky-esque synths, pumping drums, warm rumbling bass and an almost trance-like euphoria. This is feel-good dancefloor D&B at its best. Accompanying this is the more low-slung, menacing sounds of "Invasion" with its grizzled bass, tearing mid-range and rattling breaks.

If you like your D+B dark, dirty and full of energy, then this storming EP on Playaz is definitely for you. Prolix steps up with partner-in-crime MC Coppa and the pair go in hard in title track "On Like That" - incendiary lyrics are paired with pounding drums, grizzled bass in a tech-ed up soundscape. "Feed The Habit" is another tear out monster with warping mid range bellows, whilst "Interlace" introduces some MC Kemo style spoken lyrics over the rough beats. Finally, "Shut The Place Down" ends on a dramatic note with a flurry of lyrics, juddering beats and chaotic fury.

"Why Can't You See" sees the ex-D Dub member Sub Zero team up with Supreme Being and vocalist Grimm for a rowdy, synth-sizzling trip into cyberspace, with throaty bass, grinding subs and plenty of punchy drums. "Protection" is a stripped back, minimal venture with clicking beats and sweeping atmospherics, whilst "Your Flex" is a proper stepper with aggressive stabs and plenty of menace. "Broken Me" sees the return of Grimm before we are taken on a gnarly journey in "Run And Hide" and then a dose of David Rodigan-sampling jungle in "Clash" which concludes the EP.

As a loyal member of the Playaz crew, drum & bass warrior Sub Zero needs no introduction. His remix EP on the other hand, offers a fresh look at some of his past dancefloor smashers as seen through the eyes of an interesting and extremely talented group of individuals. From jump-up veteran Majistrate's wild-eyes stomp through "Your Flex" to Ingredients Records original Krakota's soulful and sublime take on "Brighter Days", it's a journey through some of Sub Zero's best-loved tracks, and an incredible look at some of the genre's finest producers of the moment too.

Jump up boys and girls prepare yourselves for a party; Taxman is back with more badness on the Playaz imprint. Get ready for a couple of killer cuts as Taxman goes in hard in title track "Cool It Judy", which gets its title from a vocal snippet, and is all bleepy, descending bass tones, gritty mid range and pummeling drum beats. A dramatic midway breakdown adds to the tension and anticipation. Awesome from the offset, this is another classic in the making. As if that wasn't enough "Mega Death", its even more exuberant counterpart, ups the ante yet again with punchy snares, grating synths an enticing jump up energy that makes this an essential purchase.

The creator of such bonafide jump up classics as "Too Bad" and "Scan Darker" comes back in full force with two of the gnarliest dancefloor monsters we've heard from the Playaz camp in a long time. "My House" kicks off with a simple 4/4 beat and synth, developing slowly into the more recognisable Taxman we all know and love; cue pummelling drum rolls, croaking SFX, cheeky vocal snippets and gritty b-line pressure. The unsung hero of the release though is undoubtedly "Thr33" - an immense piece of darkside craftsmanship with eerie, sci-fi movie sample intro, it swiftly falls into an infectious anthem with juddering drumbeats, pounding bass and rolling synths. Beastly!

Bringing together a bunch of hot talent new and old, Hype and Pascal bring us the second instalment of their Flavours EP to add some warmth to these cold winter days. First up is a VIP of ubiquitous anthem "Tommorow's Another Day" - the track which broke the young Belgian in '09. Next is a collab from Wickaman, Hoodlum and Mavrik - "Na Fool Me" with its twisted up ragga lyrics, jungle flavours, it really packs a punch. Potential Badboy's ""Can't Stop Me (feat. Junior Danger)" is another Serial Killaz style outing, with rousing lyrics, grouchy bass and clapping drums. Shimah shakes things up with his "Electro Step" and Sub Zero's attempt at subtle is remarkable, before Erb N Dub & Legacy round things off with the dancefloor destroyer "Alaska".

Playaz just keep on bringing the mayhem and the fourth installment of the already epic "Flavours EP" is no exception to the rule. Compiled of six superlative bangers from artists as wide ranging as Majistrate, Shimah, Optiv & BTK, Annix, Potential Badboy and Need For Mirrors, variety is the spice of life here. First up is "Losing Control (feat. Alicia King)" by Majistrate which ups the raw, rugged jump up flavours with jarring metallic synth work; next we have Shimah's "Shadow Of The Ba" with its uplifting trance-like synths and tense, ticking patterns. Then onwards through Optiv & BTK's "Feelings" it's a neuro-infused ruckus until we reach Annix's "Late Maoeuvere". Potential Badboy is up to his usual tricks in his VIP of "Sound A Sound" before Need For Mirrors bring the EP to a classy close in the rolling "Albatross".

Having brought us some excellent re-workings in the past two installments of The Flavours series, part three has yet more treats in store from the ineffable Playaz camp. First up is Basher's remix of the legendary DJ Hype track "Peace, Love & Unity" - the soundtrack for a whole generation of junglists. Next is Jaydan's "Back Here (feat. Mia Sylvester)" with its progressive house-esque intro and grinding mid range and searing snares. Then it's over to Shimah for "Origin Of The Cave" - another more stripped back, spaced out venture before jump up reigns supreme again in "Coming In Stealth". Sub Zero's "Digital Blues" shows another side of the producer on a lilting, liquid vibe, before the low-slung splendor of Rewind's "Hunts Her Down".
