Review: ProGuard Custom Sound Attenuating Earplugs give your ears the protection needed to safeguard your hearing from excessive noise that can lead to tinnitus, deafness and other noise induced hearing loss symptoms. Fitted with calibrated acoustic filters, your ProGuards will reduce the sound reaching your eardrum without destroying the acoustics and dynamics of the sound; think of it as a volume control for your ear. Still allowing you to have conversations, hear a shouted warning or siren alert. Also included in this purchase is a detachable lanyard should you require it.

Our Attenuating earplugs are supplied with a choice of three pairs of acoustic filters. together with a fitting tool. Please choose which pair you feel applies to the noise environment you expect to spend most time in. The Blue filter has an SNR rating of 18 dB ideal for moderate noise levels, the green filter with an SNR rating of 23 dB is for noisy conditions and the red filter rated at 25dB is for high noise areas. Other filters available are 14 dB for low noise areas and 26dB for high, the choice can be made when sending back your impressions.

Your new ProGuards will be manufactured from non-allergenic medical grade soft translucent silicon, making them durable, hard wearing and comfortable to wear for long periods without causing any undue discomfort. Cleaning the earplugs occasionally in warm soapy water and drying thoroughly before re-using is their only requirement to give years of long use.

The attenuating earplugs are available as in-canal style, the earplug will fit deep into the ear canal and not cover the bowl(concha) of the ear making them discreet and inconspicious to wear, yet still offer excellent all round hearing protection.

Review: The generic earmoulds are great for holding bud style earphones in the ear, they also provide a level of noise attenuation, this will depend on the integrity of the fit. Made from soft silicon, the ProGuard BudPortz earmoulds are comfortable to wear and simple to clean, just run them under warm water.

The earmoulds generally fit most of the standard style of ear-bud phones with a diameter range of around 14-17mm. It is extremely simple to fit the earphones into the mould, they just press into place.

They were manufactured from clear tactile soft medical grade silicon, so they will require very little maintenance over their lifetime, just the occasional wash in warm soapy water and a quick dry before inserting them into the ear is all that is required.

Each ProGuard Music Custom earplug with new design comes fitted with its own replaceable 17 dB (mid) acoustic filter as standard. The filter is the clever and new part, a completely new design and constructed using intricate membrane technology. The filter is engineered to give you the best acoustic response available, every membrane filter is finely tuned and tested to allow a certain amount of sound to pass through un-cluttered. Enabling you to hear music as it should be played only at a lower level, with its original sound clarity intact. All ProGuard filters are individually tested and meet the strict criteria of EN352-2, they are easily user interchangeable.

Coupled with the increased durability, an effortless and always a perfect acoustic seal, which will give you that awesome bass response you crave, and your sound isolation level will be increased to 25 dB or more. Health care professionals continuously warn users of the long term consequences of loud music be played through earphones. Once your earphones have been fitted with custom sleeves, it will allow you the user to reduce the volume as it channels the sound effectively and directly into the ear canal and reducing ambient noise levels.

The ProGuard Eartip Sleeves are now available for many of the leading brands of earphones including Shure, Westone, Etymotic Research, Ultimate Ear and Sensorcom MicroBuds. Each manufacturers' earphones are completely different and it is a requirment that you also enclose your earphones when you send back your impressions. ProGuard will need to determine the correct orientation for the new eartips in your ear with the earphones for extra comfort. Some earphones also have a short audio delivery port, if this is the case then a small retention ring will need to be added to the port to stop the eartip slipping off in your ear when you take the earphones out. Please contact ProGuard if you have a make of earphone you would like custom sleeves for and ProGuard should be able to let you know if it is possible, some earphones are not suitable for this process.

The magic part of the these music earplugs is the acoustic filters used; calibrated at various SNR levels they will allow the sound to pass through with the same complexity as how it was originally played, but at a lower volume to save your delicate ears from the rigours of loud music.

Each ProGuard earplug comes to you with a choice of 2 pairs of filter and a filter insertion tool. All ProGuard filters are interchangeable to suit your listening environment. The lower level (blue) is designed to give adequate protection for general gigging and concert goers and gives an SNR protection level of 18 dB. The higher attenuation version (green) is for listeners who are regularly in extremely high volume environments; typically DJs, drummers and musicians in very loud bands. This filter will give an SNR rating of 23 dB. It might not seem that 5 dB will make that much difference but you should be aware that a 3 dB difference is effectively doubling the sound so small differences in numbers can have quite an effect.

Review: The ProGuard P2+1 In-Ear Monitor successfully combines a dual ported triple driver configuration that will bring to life music with depth and superb clarity using its specially selected combination of drivers. The P2+1 features a dual low frequency driver system that gives a warm and powerful bass response with the third driver dedicated to the high frequencies add in a compact crossover optimising the response for each driver and the result is stunning natural sound quality with detailed low frequencies and crisp precise highs. Review: The ProGuard Lin-Ear PR20 Music earplug features a re-useable 19dB linear attenuation filter that is CE approved to EN352-2:2002. The filter fits neatly into soft flexible silicon eartips (2 sizes available, standard and small) that provide comfort and durability even after long periods of use. Fitting deep into the ear canal the earplug is discreet and has no protrusion allowing the user to wear headphones or other types of headwear if required.

(An occlusion is caused by sound carried to your ears through bone or cartilage conduction, normally this is unheard and escapes through the open ear but if your ear is blocked by an earplug the sound becomes trapped and a booming low frequency effect will occur causing an uncomfortable sensation.)

This elegant design also offers an open air passage to the ear, minimising the occlusion effect (the occlusion effect occurs when using some earplugs, typically low frequencies of your own voice can be transmitted through bone conduction), whilst keeping the ear ventilated for optimum comfort.
