J1 aka THE DEER feat JIMETTA ROSE/RAGEN FYKES/COULTRAIN
RBM 029
13 Jun 11 Broken Beat/Nu Jazz/Nu Soul
Played by: Juno Recommends Brokenbeat/Nu Jazz
Review:
Self taught drummer J1 has clearly flourished since leaving his hometown of Cleveland for LA, fully immersing himself amidst the flourishing beat community via a series of heavy hitting mixtapes and events. The Yellow represents the producer fortune at being surrounded by a swell of like minded creatives - leaning on the deliciously soulful vocal talents of artistes such as Jimetta Rose and Ragen Fykes to lend some buttery niceness to the next century jams. "Mellow Yellow" is an obvious highlight but check the fuzzed out bump of "Parables Of A Miracle" and subby half step bizniz of "Latenite In Londontown" too!
