There was a time when John Dahlback was famous for the sort of chunky, stripped-back tech-house that appealed just as much to deep house heads and techno types. "Take This Thing Back" is a little different. Sitting somewhere between the balls-out madness of Digitalism and the ragged electro-house previously championed by Herve, Sinden and company, it's a breathlessly sweaty concoction. There's something of a surprise bonus in the shape of a remix by Stuart Price under his Jacques Lu Cont moniker. Recalling his brilliant early work on Wall Of Sound (think his cover of "Disco To Disco"), his remix fuses classic electro, robust disco-punk and mentalist acid.
Swapping over from his own Big Love label to Chris Lake's Rising Music, Seamus Haji teams up with Netsky for this all-out assault on The Chemical Brothers' classic. A straight cover, with everything from synths and vocals replayed, the pair strip things down a little and add claps on the kicks and snares for more drive. But the real glory is in the bassline-electro sounds the pair lace the track with on this worthy revisit of a true anthem.
