Review: Reprising one of the breaks legend's biggest beats, Cut La Roc offers up the parts to 2006's "Freeze" to a trio of like-minded heavy hitters on this new release from Skint. Afghan Headspin slows down the groove and adds some fast-flowing snares for a lively Moombahton rerub while Rennie Pilgrem goes back to his roots by serving up a rave-coated set of chords and basslines all wrapped around a very tidy 2-step beat. Hoi! Stays closer to the original by dropping some super charged bass breaks, while Cut La Roc himself creates a truly maxxed-out bass odyssey on his own speaker-punishing revisit.

Review: Rocky and Diesel return under the X-Press 2 banner with this new album on Skint - joined by a phalanx of guests for this full-length funky, progressive house odyssey. The Music's Rob Harvey supplies some heavily effected vocals on the haunted house of "The Blast", while the mellow Balearic disco of "Let Love Decide" is a real keeper and deserves a proper pounding from DJs in the next few months. Add to that the carnival swagger of "Get On You", the classic jack of "Dark Matar" and the excellent, Tim Deluxe-aided prog house of "Lost The Feeling" and this makes for a very welcome return from these UK house legends.

Review: FC Kahuna's "Hayling" is one of those downtempo records that seems to have stood the test of time. Even now, 10 years after its original release, it still sounds both achingly beautiful and strangely poignant. While it probably didn't need remixing, Traum regular Max Cooper has done a surprisingly good job of giving it a new spin. While retaining many of the original's most distinctive elements - the delicious vocal, yearning organs and so on - he breaks up the beats, adds some lovely glitches and pulses and re-casts it as an eyes-closed IDM builder. Whether in full vocal or instrumental form, it's a fine remix.

Review: New from Skint, this double-sided beast pits UK house legends X-Press 2 up against big room Brighton ace Timo Garcia. "Frayed of The Light" is buoyed by addictive vocals from Amber Jolene, which sit sweetly over a sparse yet extremely funky mainroom beat. "Dark Matar" on the other hand goes straight for the jugular with a tight post-disco sound that mixes attacking acid squarks with soft vocal shots and timeless house snares. Brazil's Wehbba impresses hugely with a minimal strip down mix of "Frayed..." which is also on the single, as well as a dub version.

Mixing 4/4 electro beats with a keen awareness of dubstep stutters and monster leads, the pair set things off perfectly, creating a hyped backing for Stapleton's fast rhyme flow. Spanish producer Dubsidia wrangles the original into a more dub-breaks direction, getting vicious with the warped bass and leads over punchy half-step drums.

Review: As a taster of Kidda's second album for Skint, the forthcoming Hotel Radio, the Brighton label have given the stems of "Wanna Be Loved" over to Stupid Fresh and Benji Boko for a pair of smart rerubs. London jack 'n' bass-fiend Stupid Fresh has already won effusive support from Todd Edwards and Aston Shuffle and he proves why with this pacey mix that mixes hardcore bass sounds with a fun-filled electro-house beat. Benji Boko maintains more of a indie/cut 'n' paste vibe on his mix, channelling The Avalanches amongst others as he mixes acoustic guitars with psychedelic vocal treatments. Kidda also drops a mix, which sees him go off on a twisted gallop of beats, steel drums and winding dubstep-esque bass.

Review: Having dropped some seriously impressive remixes for the folks at Skint (as well as Toolroom and Rocstar) recently, upcoming house-don Sonny Wharton finally drops a tune of his own on the south-coast label in the shape of "We Ain't Done Yet". Combining Riva Starr-esque rhythms, a hyped vocal from Mr. Eyez and a looped hook that slowly burrows into your brain, it's simply perfect - as is the dub that's also included if you prefer a more extended, vocal-free, treatment. A garagey rerub comes courtesy of Londoner Jack Dixon, which will appeal to Brackles/Joy O fans, while cheeky Scousers The Beatmonkeys drop a '92-reminding raved-up mix that combines old-school pianos, sampled breaks and some simply enormous bass shuffles.

Whilst the original "Gutterpump" was a pounding slice of turbo charged electro-infused breakbeat badness, this 2011 re-lick slows it down to dubstep tempo whilst maintaining all that pumping energy Doctor P and Flux Pav style. It bears all the hallmarks of a contemporary tear out tune - wallowing bass, outrageous synth manipulations and ear-splitting Nero-esque wobbles. Get your teeth into this bad boy.

Review: A tune that stood out on Skint's recent Hidden Gems Vol.2 collection, "Trumpet Train" gets three new leases of life on this release. Hoxton Whores take it out on a deep house adventure and pack the mood full of tense reverbs, while Dan McKie's Fish Don't Dance mix makes central use of the original's Eastern samples by looping a particularly wild horn riff and riding it into a very groovy place indeed. UK producer Mark Ustari rounds off with a masterclass in mood-building slow filtering.

Review: Heavily-tipped and nicely turned out electro-indie band Mirrors score another big release on Skint, ahead of a full album that's due to drop later in the year. While "Into The Heart" recalls OMD and The Human League in their prime, Richard X customarily makes it sound ready for indie-disco dancefloors by beefing up the synths and drums just enough to make it really shine. The Rapture's producer Johnathan Kreinik adds some hyped drum-breaks and clattering percussion to break it away from its electroclash roots, proving a nice counterpoint to the original's neon-coated sheen.

Review: Providing two fiery updates from the Skint archive, this Under 5's release sees Matta have bags of fun with Noisia's "Gutterpump" by working in some heavy, mean-ass dubstep licks into an already banging tune. Superbly chopped and diced for a half-step breakdown, it quickly launches itself back into a bass-heaving stomp soon after. Kinzy also goes nuts with Hardknox' classic "Fire Like Dis", dropping an epic filter build and a spatial set of claps over the chaotic bass and that iconic vocal shot.
