Sheffield's J69 has been earning a name for himself notching up forward thinking releases on labels with such remarkable names as Off Me Nut Records. Now he's hooked up with Soukouch Ethnik for this 4-tracker and he's not holding back. Title track "Evil" features an incessant, high-pitched melody over 4x4 beats and bass with some pretty heavy wobble. Elsewhere we get staccato robot garage ("You"), which is given an excellent trap-ish makeover by Laney, and the mechanical hip-hop-isms of "Void".
French producer Martin Sauvage gets busy with an 808 and some fierce moodscapes on this excellent, forward-thinking EP - led by the excellent and moody "Human Race", which uses a galloping, Pearson Sound-esque rattle of snares to drive along an absorbing wash of abstract pads. "Bad Girl" reminds of Para One's recent excursion into Jimmy Edgar-esque techno funk, while the juke mix of "Human Race" is a glorious and fast rerub that doesn't disappoint.
