Having gleefully flitted between labels since first popping his head above the parapet five years ago, Stephane Deschezeaux has decided the time is right to settle down. This expansive EP-come-compilation gathers together the best of his nu-disco and sample-heavy edit productions for the Springbok label he founded some years back. There's naturally plenty of dancefloor fire to be found throughout, from the chunky disco-house strut of "Deeper", and synth-heavy '80s soul re-edit business of "Prime Time", to the undulating synth bass and life-affirming pianos of "Make It Hot". Also worth checking is the twinkling, Loose Ends-meets-Onra style slow jam, "The Virtual Love", and the thrusting, hard-edged electrofunk of "87".
Ever since 2012, Springbokz founder Stephane Deschezeaux has periodically got together with the Formichelli brothers to jam out warm and hazy disco tracks. The best of these have been released under The Family's Jam alias. This latest single-track salvo - the follow-up to October 2016's Baby Funk EP - is arguably amongst their best works to date. Built around a Chic-like groove that makes great use of clipped, Nile Rodgers style guitars and rubbery Bernard Edwards-ish bass, "Sunnyview" rises and falls continuously upon waves of punchy horns and wiggly synthesizer lines. It's sunny, cheery, and effortlessly sweet. To our ears, it sounds like a summer anthem in the making.
Electro hero Stephane Deschezeaux's Alpine label Springbok Records plays host to his more disco leanings. Nu disco dude Will The Funkboss is a regular on the imprint's release schedule and that's cos he delivers the goods - upbeat party jams. This EP is no different, as he serves up two piping hot slices of boogie pie. Saddle up for a spaced-out live electro-funk freak-out on "Make It Clap", before getting swept away in raucous, over emotional disco whirlwind "Stand Up Y'All!".
