Review:
Second time around for Taylor & Costes' contemporary electro-funker "Spank It", which first dropped on last year's Check It Out EP. This time round, a quartet of contemporary disco producers are on hand to shuffle the original elements and lend their own touch to proceedings. Things Happen retain the original's heavy synth-funk bassline, adding touchy-feely riffs, warped electro elements and trippy house riffery. Irregular Disco Workers offer up a strange but rather attractive combination of rolling mutant funk and bright-eyed Balearica, while Daughters & Sons deliver a beautifully low-slung interpretation. The package is completed by a nu-disco bubbler from Strictly Groove boss man Visti.

Review:
Things Happen are one of Italian imprint Strictly Groove's most decorated and successful acts. Here, two of their previous releases are given the remix treatment. First up, Space Ranger takes a stab at reworking "Lingerie", turning it into a chiming, oddly distant chunk of sci-fi disco goodness. While it's solid enough, the real killer cut here is Alexander Robotnik's version of "Majestueux". He may have been a touch inconsistent of late, but this mix is a triumph - a clattering analogue jam that strikes the perfect balance between heads-down heaviness and shiny synth riffery.

Review:
Berlin-based producer Nikolaaos Symeoidis is being promoted as a future talent by Strictly Groove Recordings, and it's not hard to see why. He's got an album of hypnotic, off-kilter deep house due soon - entitled Music For Listening And Imaginative Dancing - and this extended EP of originals and remixes gives a tantalizing glimpse of what to expect. There's a jazzy looseness to the warm melodies and darting synths of "She Already Knows", while "This Is XXX" works a deep, intergalactic groove for 13 spellbinding minutes. "El Patron Club" flips the script, impressively combining low-slung, hammond-heavy jazz with stripped-back house grooves. The album should be worth checking.

Review:
There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about this debut full-length from Italian producer Emilliano Pennisi. It's not that it sounds particularly dated - the sounds and production techniques he employs are strictly contemporary - but Broken Antenna's adventurous eclecticism evokes a period when electronic producers were not afraid to pack their albums with a variety of sounds and styles. Taking a deep house sensibility as its starting point, Broken Antenna variously touches on off-kilter electronic disco, cinematic electronica, jazz-flecked beats, glistening synth-pop, curious tech-house, muted electro-swing and even glossy Italian house. While it may be lacking the "wow" factor, it's certainly an accomplished and highly entertaining set.
