Review:
Beardy German producer Fritz Kalkbrenner follows up his excellent mix compilation for Suol (aptly titled Suol Mates)with this EP, an addendum or side dish if you will to the main course. The Suol Mates EP consists of two of the mix's highlights, kicking off with Fritz's own deliciously subtle and low slung "Ruby Lee". Up next is an edit from Suol label bosses Chpstick & Johnjon of the Henrick Schwarz remix of "Right In The Dark". In a word, lovely.

Review:
The latest release from Fritz Kalkbrenner is in stark contrast to the stage-diving antics of his film-star brother. The title track revolves around a poppy hook that could have been lifted from an 80s hit and then put through some FX. Either way, it sounds familiar and infectious, but Kalkbrenner keeps it in the club realm with a loose break beat and an acid-flecked, squelchy bassline. "Layer Cake" pushes further into the abstract as Kalkbrenner delivers layers of jazzy keys and a humming bass reminiscent of Carl Craig or Ian O'Brien's jazzy work. The beats are understated and the only nod towards the dance floor is the series of thumb-clicking percussion.

Review:
Amazingly, the last time Berlin-based deep houser Sven Van Thulen made an appearance on this pages was back in 2006, with his Jay Haze collaboration Soul in a Bottle. Seven years on, he's gearing up for another assault on dancefloors that like it warm and melodic. There's plenty to enjoy on this comeback EP, from the hissing cymbals and rolling riffs of "Liquid Light", to the hip-house breaks, fuzzy analogue riffs and sinewy strings of "Those Days & Nights". Also impressive is "Illuminate", a bumpin' chunk of string-laden deep house melodica.

Review:
Having operated on the fringes of deep and tech-house since the mid '90s, DJ booker-turned-producer Till Von Sein is finally ready to drop his debut album. It's hugely entertaining, deviating from his usual club-friendly deep house style to take in a myriad of styles and influences. While a smattering of piano-laden deep house grooves remain (see "Sumthin Good", "Monday" and the low-end heavy "61"), the German producer also finds space to include excursions into springy disco ("Ltd"), sleazy jazz breaks ("Out of Love"), Detroit-influenced early techno futurism ("Non Existent Love") and smacked-out downtempo blissfulness (the post-dubstep influenced "Neptune"). Well worth checking out.

Review:
Given that they've produced some of the most interesting house music of recent times, it's no surprise to see Kollektiv Turnstrasse and Erdbeerschnitzel handling remix duties on this latest Till Von Sein release. It's the latter who provides the highlight, turning in a cultured, sophisticated rework of "Tilly's 61 Rhodes Jam" that's as jazzy and smooth as it is loose and languid. Kollektiv Turnstrasse's mix of "Blueprint", meanwhile, is reliably deep and groovesome, with their cultured musicality to the fore. For those looking for a touch more energy, there's a decidedly ravey, late night techno take from SLG that will appease late night dancefloors.

Review:
Given their veteran status, Sonar Kollektiv background and decent track record, it's perhaps a little surprising that this is Trickski's debut full-length. In truth, they were probably always destined to record an album at some point - not least because their woozy trademark style and love of mixing up tempos (a rarity in house acts) suits the format so well. As if to prove the point, Unreality offers an enjoyable smorgasbord of off-kilter deep house, minor key-heavy afterhours jams, quirky slo-mo grooves and lethargic midtempo spook-outs - all infused with a smart musicality and a dizzying array of unusual vocal samples.

Review:
While it would be slightly amiss to say that there's something for everyone on this expansive Trickski remix EP, there's enough variety to suggest that it could stay in the box for some time. There's some sturdy disco drums (based, we reckon, on an old Candi Staton tune) and late night wonk in the shape of "Can't Get Through", while Fritz Zander turns Irfane collaboration "Love's A Beat" into a deliciously soulful chunk of carnival-friendly house-not-house. Each of the three versions of "Beginning" offers something different, too, from the slo-mo chug of Cocolores' wonky version, to the hypnotic Balearic house builds of Mark E's wonderfully melodic take.

Review:
The original version of vocal deep house cut "Good Time To Pray" - first heard on Trickski's debut LP Unreality - is something of an understated gem. This remix package does little to change the weary mood of the original, instead offering similarly atmospheric new versions from Tom Trago, Soul Minority and Axel Boman. It's Trago who really impresses, delivering two contrasting versions. While his MFB-522 Remix packs a peaktime punch, it's actually his extended mix - complete with 90-second intro and subtle piano touches - that really sparkles. Elsewhere, Soul Minority offer a bright and spacious interpretation, whilst Axel Boman delivers a bubbling, emotion-rich shuffler.
