Review:
This release has nothing to do with the hard techno act of the same name, and in reality, "Advent" is a typically robust Romboy affair. Heavy claps provide the basis for a soaring, noisy bassline that builds and builds in concert with epic trance melodies. The German producer may not be reinventing the wheel, but he is certainly playing to his strengths. The surprises start with Nick Fanciulli's reshape: tough tribal beats are on offer and they set the pace as the UK DJ delivers a series of building, trancey peaks and troughs that sound like a new take on classic 90s techno.

Review:
It appears that Systematic label boss Marc Romboy and his Chicago veteran old pal Blake Baxter have got lost on a road trip. We can just see them now, in a Delorean and struggling with maps and compasses before exiting the vehicle to find themselves in Paris circa 1998. Yep "The Art Of Sound" sees the normally jack-obsessed producers explore the whole French touch sound, and it largely works - the main version being faster, vocal and less retro. Version 2 though is all about looping and filtering those disco samples to within an inch of their lives!

Review:
Marc Romboy and Paris have a proven track record in brooding, vocal-led techno - check 2005's excellent "Computer Madness" in case you're in any doubt - and "Dark 'n' Lovely" sees them again focus on this evocative option. The original version features lean claps and ghoulishly nocturnal chords underpinning one of Paris's creepy/humorous narratives. While he talks about Detroit, what's most striking is the line 'I can't control the way I feel/ I touch myself'. We will probably never know if he's joking or not, but it makes for fascinating listening all the same. Kenny Larkin's rework roughens up the beats and repositions the arrangement into a series of killer builds and breakdowns.

Review:
Having previously impressed with some quietly impressive deep house, Phonique switches focus on this latest missive from Germany's Systematic imprint. "2 My Jungle" is hard to categorize musically, featuring as it does beats and riffs that boast the swing of Chicagoan boompty and the icy sparseness of German techno. It is, though, very good fun. Daniel Steinberg provides a more fleshed-out remix that benefits from some fidgety percussion and rolling acoustic guitar chords, while bonus cut "Divertimento" - arguably the best thing here - is luscious deep house for classic Balearic sunsets. Good stuff... as always.

Review:
After a relatively quiet year for Ripperton, he serves up this killer collection of remixes and alternative takes on his moody tech house sound for Systematic. Tobias plumbs a driving and trancey depth on "Lost In Sound", while Petar Dundov opts for similar melancholic territory. Rip's own "Farraway" offers a little more meat in a dubby stew - it's our pick of an impressive bunch - while "Flume" lets the beat do the talking.

Review:
The title track does all of the things that you'd hope for from a Robert Babicz track. The bass rumbles along in a menacing manner, aided by insistent percussive ticks. Ice cold synth stabs threatened to cave in on themselves as Babicz pushes the track into a delayed breakdown, and later on the bass menace turns to outright aggro as a throbbing low end sequence provides a fitting climax. Meanwhile, "Red Valve" offers listeners the opportunity to discover the other side of Babicz. Over a more understated backing track and a stuttering vocal, he delivers an irresistible chord progression and the kind of soul-drenched strings one would automatically associate with Derrick May.
