Review: Parisian eccentric Joakim has always been the sort of producer who is impossible to second-guess. Capable of delivering everything from French disco-punk noise to languid Balearic goodness, his discography is both thrillingly varied and curiously unfathomable to beginners. On this latest single for longtime home Tigersushi, he delivers a delicious, dewy-eyed blast of Balearic pop goodness that somehow manages to successfully fuse elements of Afro-house, Reichian marimba melodies, synth-pop sassiness and Beach Boys-ish vocal harmonies. If that's not enough to get the juices flowing, check the superb remixes from John Talabot (eyes-wide-shut electronic bliss), Soul Clap (touchy-feely E-house) and Das Glow (dark and disturbed Afro-tech). His best for some time - and that's saying something.

Review: Continuing their fine vintage of releases in 2011, Tigersushi's attentions cross the English Channel where two generations of music making join forces for the excellent Gravity EP. The names Justin Robertson (here under his Deadstock 33s alias) and Stopmakingme should be familiar to your ears, and this release marks the first occasion they've collaborated together fully - having swapped remixes in recent times as well as releasing a track together for Southern Fried. There's much to enjoy here among the four tracks that straddle the tempos and moods, with the title track the most horizontally leaning and sprawling in its outlook. "Park Drive" is a more elastic, analogue heavy accompaniment, similar in its cavernous treatment of rhythms to a Chicken Lips production and it's matched in the energy gifting stakes by "Oscillate" which operates on a similar level of fun to James Curd's DFA classic. "A Rising Madness" completes this release, aptly titled as it gradually rises from a drum machine heavy intro a surfeit of schizophrenic synth modulations.

Review: Veteran of the fist-pumping kind of electro inhabited by Miss Kittin and I-F, it's not so often you see a new release from The Hacker these days. Still, he's made it back to deliver three Italo-flavoured nuggets on Tigersushi in the style of romantic 80s arpeggios and fat synths he made his name on. "Through The Ether" is unashamedly cosmic in its tone, boasting elegiac reams of melody over those steadily pulsing bass notes. A rasping snare gives "Mind Games" a marginally tougher edge, but really this is sweet songwriting for swooning swingers on the dancefloor.

Review: Over the past decade, French label Tigersushi has crafted a niche as purveyors of devilishly decadent electronic music, much of it cutting edge. This neat round-up of 2011 releases shows that they've lost none of their edge, offering up a collection that veers from dewy-eyed Balearica (from label boss Joakim) to droning new wave pop (DyE's "Fantasy"). There's plenty of fine dancefloor tackle on show, too, from the wide-eyed deep electro-disco of Crack Boy's "House Of Ill Pain" and white knuckle Italo of Krikor's House of Geomotry re-edit, to the bubbling vintage synth wizardy of "Oscillate", a storming collaboration between Deadstock 33s and fast-rising Brit Stopmakingme.
