Review:
Spanish DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mr Gagun makes his debut for Timewarp with an album bristling with horn-heavy groovery. Gagun's sound is heavily steeped in funk and soul, but also takes in hip-hop, jazz, swing, R&B, dub, ghetto-funk and the low-end pulse of contemporary bass music. It makes for a breezy, soulful set, similar in ethos (if not style) to much of the output of Brighton's Tru Thoughts label. There are plenty of floor-filling moments to enjoy, from the hectic jazz-dance beats of "Funky Dog" and the gorgeous Latin strut of "Mi Sello", to the expansive soul of "Giro Con La Vida" and horn-heavy breaks of "Set You Off".

Review:
Following on from the success of his recent Timewarp debut 11:11, the Athens-based, funk-obsessed label has now decided to release a selection of the Spanish producer's best cuts in remixed form. There's three mixes of "Funky Dog" here, the best being Afternoons In Stereo's pumping sleazy disco take and Apedroid's blissed out Ibiza sunset mix. Quincy Jointz reworks "Cinderella Girl" as a tight, electronic funk workout with Balearic overtones. "Wait" gets a raw going over from Dan Wilde, complete with edgy electro-bassline, while Mr Chombee opts for a poppier, boogie-ish version. However, with its hybrid of Spanish guitar, throbbing bass and bonkers flute, the Freethinker Funk Essence mix of "Mi Sello" is one of the standout tracks of this release.

Hoorah! It's been a long time coming, but the album from this Canadian act is finally here. We got a taster for their new retro/contemporary jazzy sound with a single in August. The EP featured the breaks-driven "Soul Sugar", the 70s funk indebted "Driving To Montenegro" and the jazzier "Blow", all of which made it to the album. Now joining these tunes are the likes of the fretlessly rhythmic "Blues For BL", the crazy flute frenzy of "The Kelly Affair" and the gentle piano intricacies of "Snowfall".

Review:
Canadian producer, Afternoons In Stereo, has been on hiatus since 2011, but it hasn't stopped his name appearing on a host of remixes of other acts ever since. Now the Athens-based Timewarp label has decided to collect the best of all these appearances in a one-stop-shop release. There are 11 top-notch tracks here. Some choice picks include the loungey bass grooves of "Growth Strategies", the reggae funk of "Jamaican", the retro ghetto stomp of "Step On", the almost electro-Bhangra of "Rose Of Ispahan" and the authentic disco workout "Funky Dog". A perfect stopgap release whilst we wait for this prolific producers new studio album, due 2013.

Review:
Two Sydney-based funk and disco heads, Jack Priest and Chris Soulos, make up Flatwound. who've play a blinder on this latest single from Timewarp. A true must-have for nu-disco and funky house fans, "Again" is a perfectly structured mix of driving funk guitars, softly softly house drums, filter vocals and an addictive flute 'n' synth line reminiscent of the great Roy Ayres. Valique's remix is just as arresting, crafting a huge build out of the parts, while Flatwound shine again on the beautifully dubby and Balearic slo-mo disco of "Kick Junior".

Review:
Mixing funky breaks with plenty of soul, Belgian nu-funk wizard Zamali dazzles with the slow boogie soul and retro arpeggios of "Blue Mountains", provides warm jazz-funk textures on the bass-poppin' "Jah Youth" and gospel-reared breakbeat on the brass-splattered funk of "Accentuation".

Review:
Self-proclaimed "funk lover, crate digger and sometime beatmaker" Apedriod makes his debut, after years working dancefloors in his native Sweden. Given that it's his first outing, Banana Beats is incredibly assured, offering a slew of tracks that blend bright, jazz-flecked guitars and other organic funk elements with a variety of rhythms. Opener "Enter The Apedriod" is like jazz-funk in dub, while "Brotherman" opts for a warm, boogie-house flex. Nell Halford collaboration "Electric" delivers a dash of sunny-day soul, while "Latin Disco Lover" delivers a cheery, Only Child-ish take on instrumental disco-soul. Throw in some crackly funk rock breaks (see "Release The Funk" and "Wisdom Of Youth") and you've got a quietly impressive debut.

The clue's in the title - this is hugely funky stuff from duo FD, who combine West-coast brass licks (reminiscent of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man") with raw breaks, thick double bass riffs and bluesy guitars on "Born To Be Bad". As well as a handy instrumental of the title tune, "Soulbreak Joint" is a jazzy workout combining a scatting MC and some scratches, while "Midnight Flight To Paris" recalls the lyrical piano playing of Ramsey Lewis in his prime.

Review:
Superb funky breaks from Timewarp's Leon, who combines disco brass samples with uptempo drums as well as some genius guitar playing - both electric and acoustic, in a Django Reinhart style no less - on "Da Gypsy Groovy". The Timewarp crew jump on board for a subtle, filter-fuelled remix which makes great use of those guitar skills, while Trotter's mix strips things down nicely for the floor and makes Leon's original a perfect tool for nu-funk DJs everywhere.

Review:
Trans European express in full effect here as Croatian dwelling German producer Umbo and his production buddy Balatz return to the Greek imprint Timewarp for a burning disco bomb, with remix action courtesy of Russia and Belgium. "Disco Thang" is an up tempo funk boogie bomb, with the looped horns and slap bass elements at the core of the track played off against expertly arranged elements such as string flourishes and a panned flute. Freestyle Records Funkateer Valique places the emphasis on the bass line and breaks up the looped horn for a nice dubbed feel. Veteran Greek producer DJ Kid Stretch takes an old school approach, adding breaks and dropping in his own vocal samples and extra horns for a real b-boy feel, whilst Belgian producer Zamali delivers an uptempo afro funk bomb.

Review:
Timewarp come through the debut full length from Croat cowbell enthusiasts Dogo Argentino with Diskonautik packed to the brim with ten tracks of live disco funk heat. This loose limbed collective of musicians specialize in a swift paced disco sound which even will encourage even the staunchest disco cynic to drop their shoulders. There"s more than a hint that catching Dogo Argentino perform these tracks live is the best way to experience them, however tracks such as "Daddy" and tightly wound flex of "Mr Groove" will sit nicely in any peak time disco set - with the intrinsic live sound a nice contrast to the dominant Ableton sound in today's disco/nu disco releases.

Review:
A large posse of Croatian musicians, who have played together in various formations since 1989, Dogo Argentino's Latin-orientated funk gets a full remix treatment on this new release from Timewarp. Various styles emerge, such as Flatwound's disco-tinged mix of DA's "Step On", Gazeebo's slo-Balearic take on "2 Minutes 2 Midnight" or good old-fashioned popcorn funk, as heard on Frankie Sinistra's pacey mix of "Daddy".

Review:
The second wave of "Diskonautik" remixes drops on Timewarp this week, with a new cast of remixers taking apart Dogo Argentino's funk-fuelled album in style. Among the ones to watch out for among the twelve tracks are Trotter's disco-rhythmed, Rhodes-driven remake of "Tell Me", Vida G's deep house treatment of "2 Minutes 2 Midnight" and Omegaman's tight nu-funk overhaul of the excellent "Destiny".

Weighing in at a whopping 28 tracks, this follow up to Timewarp's hip-wigglingly funky debut compilation will take about four years to digest - as long as the follow up took to arrive. From bongo boogie-woogie ("Elpuma" - Afternoons In Stereo) and jazz-flavoured sunshine house (Trotter - "At The Pool") to low-swung sleazy breakbeat funk (Timewarp Inc - "Start With An A") and woozy Latin wig-outs (Auditors Domination - "Rempeto") this hefty party compendium more than makes up for the wait.

Review:
BMD has been an established member of the extended Timewarp family since 2008, when he dropped his first funk-laden single, Refunked. Here he presents his debut album proper, a warm and fuzzy collection of snappy modern funk, horn-laden breaks, P-funk revivalism and woozy downtempo jams. Funked Up moves between tempos impressively, showcasing bright and breezy tracks that range from blisteringly quick to slow and loose. There are occasional forays into kitsch, 60s-style lounge funk (see the humorously titled "Keep Off The Brass") and bubbling, house-tempo groovery (the wah-wah guitar-laden "On A Roll"), but for the most part it's a whirlwind trip through floor-friendly funk breaks.

Review:
Timewarp have been putting out bangers since 2005 on their own Timewarp Music, a Greek label dedicated to only the most alluring electronic sounds. This is their new LP and it's choc-a-bloc with surprises for you; starting from the opener "Bullshit", an irresistibly hip-swanking trip-hop number, it goes all the way through "Disco Frisco" featuring the one like Leon for a smooth but rough-ready house roller, and ends up in places never expected like "Latin Cookies", a track so joyful and packed with good vibes that it can't be properly catalogued into one genre...it has one hell of a bass line though - much like everything else on this sweet full-length from the boys at Timewarp.
