Review: Trombonist and trumpeter respectively, Matt and Andrew Colman have a peerless CV as accompaniment to names as varied as Ben E King, 4Hero and The Herbaliser. They've slowly made a name for themselves in their own right though, winning support from Gilles Peterson amongst others, and now drop this fantastic debut on Wah Wah 45s which combines all manner of jazz, exotica and straight up funk. Opener "Mr DG" is a throwback to late-50s/early 60s swinging jazzers a la Jimmy Smith or Georgie Fame, while the rollicking rhythms of "Momo" are embellished by a distinctly Kenny Burrell-aping guitar solo. With vocal treats also included, like the languid "Some Other Wonder", this is an album both wide in scope and also beautifully rendered, and a must for jazz and funk aficionados.

Review: Now what is not to like about a brass band rendering of Toto's evergreen schmaltz-fest "Africa"? Review: We've enjoyed watching this intrepid group of ten musicians grow over the past year, with their excellent brass-drenched covers finding a host of new fans along the way. They're bound to make even more with this debut album, which collects previous singles such as "Africa" along with more intriguing covers and some originals too. Their new version of "No Diggity" sounds magnificent, while more jazzy fare like "Pygmy Goats" and "Right Foot Up" shows the HCB's range off perfectly. With a pair of rock covers also thrown in - "Under The Bridge" and "Use Somebody" - this is a hugely entertaining album from this inventive posse.

Review: Anyone who heard the Hackney Colliery Band's excellent recent debut album will be aware of their cover of Blackstreet's R&B anthem "No Diggity". It was arguably the standout cut and is more than worthy of this single release. If you've not heard it, give the clips a listen - it magically transforms the slick original into a horn-parping brass band dancefloor smasher that somehow manages to continue building throughout. Flipside cut "House Arrest" sadly isn't a cover of Krush's long-forgotten 1987 house anthem of the same name, but rather than a stomping Balkan rinse-out. While it lacks the familiarity of the A-Side, it's equally powerful.

Review: Coming back with a much-anticipated follow up to 2008's Meanwhile... album, Ross Wakefield and Toby Vane return under their Part Time Heroes vibe with this Wah Wah 45's long player - an inspiring and beautifully recorded album of orchestral soul, delicate ballads and downtempo, electronica-inspired moodscapes. Similar to hotly-tipped singer Michael Kiwanuka, Part Time Heroes employ stirring brass and gentle acoustic guitars that echo the work of Rotary Connection producer Charles Stepney on songs like "Words" or "Holy". Review: A much-anticipated return from producer Adam Scrimshire, who follows up 2008's "Along Came The Devil One Night" with the excellent funk, roots, soul and psych-rock of The Hollow LP. The guest vocalists Scrimshire has coaxed onto the album provide some of the most memorable moments, such as Heidi Vogel (from Cinematic Orchestra) adding to the Ethio-funk of "Everything You Say" or Faye Houston's turn on the mournful "Home". However, instrumental moments such as the epic, slo-mo jazz of "Ajar" prove to be the album's real heart and a testament to the giant steps in Scrimshire's production.

Review: Taken from the soon to be released second album The Hollow, Adam Scrimshire's first single back in the fray sounds better than ever. Featuring vocals from Resonators' Faye Houston, Scrimshire cooks up a moody mix of Portishead guitars, icy bossa nova rhythms and indie choruses, with a tense yet languid mood cast over the whole song. As with all Wah Wah 45s releases, there are some great mixes included, such as Paper Tiger's dry and jittery dubstep overhaul or Captain Planet's nu-disco rerub, while a freshly vocalled acoustic version rounds off the single in style.

Review: An extended release of funk/soul producer, songwriter and Wah Wah 45's star Scrimshire's "Everything You Say" not only boasts the Afro-delics of the excellent original but also a wonderfully colourful remix from LV. Having released on Hyperdub and Second Drop previously, LV brings an effusive set of punchy beats, soulful synth bass and a rushing set of vocals loops to the table on the "Deep Bump" mix, while Scrimshire himself contributes his own dub of "Everything You Say" that really showcases the Mali-esque rhythms and brass work.
