A singer and songwriter, who's made a name for herself by recording and performing using all manner of eccentric accessories including typewriters, cheese graters, chopping boards and other assorted household goods, Bev Lee Harling's debut album for Wah Wah 45s was recorded with Rogall from Micatone and brilliantly mixes her delicate jazz vocals with printer noises ("Robots and Angels") or more conventional blues instrumentation ("Devil's On Your Tail") to create an album as refreshing and slightly bonkers as Camille's "Ilo Veyou".

A singer and songwriter who's made a name for herself by recording and performing using all manner of eccentric accessories including typewriters, cheese graters, chopping boards and other assorted household goods, Bev Lee Harling's latest single for Wah Wah 45s is a breezy, jazzy affair with a Puppinni Sisters retro-swing vibe, and come accompanied by an intimate voice and ukulele cover of The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic".

Review:
Having just recently dropped her debut album, Barefoot In your Kitchen, on Adam Scrimshire's Wah Wah 45s label, retro-styled singer and songwriter, Bev Lee Harling is back with another single from said LP. "Robots & Angels" is a remarkable marriage of Bev's breezy jazz vocals, 60s loungey mamboisms, electro beats and even some mechanical noises! On remix duties we have Claws For? who beautifully weave the vocals around a shimmering electro-boogie backing track. By contrast, Quiroga turn the tune into a downtempo, glitchy, micro-house workout.

Trombonist and trumpeter respectively, Matt and Andrew Colman have a peerless CV as accompaniment to names as varied as Ben E King, 4Hero and The Herbaliser. They've slowly made a name for themselves in their own right though, winning support from Gilles Peterson amongst others, and now drop this fantastic debut on Wah Wah 45s which combines all manner of jazz, exotica and straight up funk. Opener "Mr DG" is a throwback to late-50s/early 60s swinging jazzers a la Jimmy Smith or Georgie Fame, while the rollicking rhythms of "Momo" are embellished by a distinctly Kenny Burrell-aping guitar solo. With vocal treats also included, like the languid "Some Other Wonder", this is an album both wide in scope and also beautifully rendered, and a must for jazz and funk aficionados.

It's nearly two years since this Bristolian duo, comprising siblings Matt (trombone) and Andrew (trumpet) Colman, dropped their eponymous debut on Adam Scrimshire's Wah-Wah 45s imprint. Of course they've always worked with a wide selection of other artists, and now we have loads of others lining up to remix them. Highlights of this remix album include the soulful acoustic crunk of "Some Other Wonder (Jimmy Flamente mix)", the Dick Tracy jazz of "The Chief (Herma Puma's Noir edit)" and the moody electro-disco of "Some Other Wonder (Bman mix)".

Awesome digital single here from the Colman Brothers for the peerless Wah Wah 45s imprint, with the Bristolian duo turning in a noodling, languid sojourn through nu-jazz niceness. "The Chief" is an excellent jaunt filled with bubbling melodies, distant, wistful brass, shuffling percussion and wandering keys. Wah Wah label buddies Part-Time Heroes (PTH for short) turn in a dubbier remix with some killer low frequencies and lovely horn stabs!

Now what is not to like about a brass band rendering of Toto's evergreen schmaltz-fest "Africa"? Hackney Colliery Band have individually played with Jarvis Cocker, The Bollywood Brass Band and Porpoise Corpus but together they've got a knack for covering classics like MJ's "Human Nature" or ODB's "Got Your Money" so well that you'll start thinking all pop tunes would benefit from extra sousaphone after a while.

Review:
We've enjoyed watching this intrepid group of ten musicians grow over the past year, with their excellent brass-drenched covers finding a host of new fans along the way. They're bound to make even more with this debut album, which collects previous singles such as "Africa" along with more intriguing covers and some originals too. Their new version of "No Diggity" sounds magnificent, while more jazzy fare like "Pygmy Goats" and "Right Foot Up" shows the HCB's range off perfectly. With a pair of rock covers also thrown in - "Under The Bridge" and "Use Somebody" - this is a hugely entertaining album from this inventive posse.

Review:
Anyone who heard the Hackney Colliery Band's excellent recent debut album will be aware of their cover of Blackstreet's R&B anthem "No Diggity". It was arguably the standout cut and is more than worthy of this single release. If you've not heard it, give the clips a listen - it magically transforms the slick original into a horn-parping brass band dancefloor smasher that somehow manages to continue building throughout. Flipside cut "House Arrest" sadly isn't a cover of Krush's long-forgotten 1987 house anthem of the same name, but rather than a stomping Balkan rinse-out. While it lacks the familiarity of the A-Side, it's equally powerful.

Review:
With their audacious and unlikely cover versions, bouncing energy and hipster-ish following, Hackney Colliery Band come across as the tongue-in-cheek clowns of the WahWah 45s roster - a post-modern musical joke that works. This may seem a little harsh, but it's not meant to be; musically, they rarely put a foot wrong. Here, they show their playful side once more by offering a rousing brass band medley of three Prodigy rave classics. It's as floor-friendly and exuberant as usual, dropping the tempo for "Out of Space" before raising the roof with those familiar "No Good" riffs. Flip for "Owl Sanctuary", a more earnest number that recalls the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at their best.

Review:
The proliferation of releases from Adam Scrimshire's Wah Wah 45s label is only matched by the diversity of the music. Henri Pierre Noel is a dazzling pianist long held in high regard by musicians everywhere, and after the original 1979 release of this album, many DJs too. Now the rare long player has finally been remastered (by a chap called Kevin Moonstarr!) and re-released. It's clear as to why it was so highly regarded from listening to the frantic disco-funk of "Merci Bon Dieu", the almost proto-punk-funk of "Cogaxa" or the intricate interplay of "Simbi".

The mysterious Lea Lea drops her debut release on Adam Scrimshire's Wah-Wah 45s label, and boy is it gonna make a bang! Described as being 'dark soul music', "Black Or White" is a thunderous epic with tribal drums, ominous John Barry-esque brass arrangements, and the rich, confident tones of Lea Lea's powerful voice. Remix-wise Goth-Trad go for pulsating DnB-meets post-dubstep, Other Echoes go for proggy house and DJ iZem goes for synth-heavy RnB.

Review:
A brand new project from Andy Highmore, Holly Bestic and LV collaborator Joshua Idehen, Maze Hill serve up a dreamy blend of soul that errs creatively into both the worlds of pop and electronica with sophistication, harmony and musicality. "Long Haul" is awash with damp, spiralling synths as Josh and Holly go toe-to-golden-toned-toe in a battle for the most uplifting. "I Can Be Your Light" is a much softer affair. Sparse, pining and piano-tickled, it's got the power of Elton and the sultriness of The xx. A great new act to keep tabs on.

Adam Scrimshire's Wah Wah 45s label is lots of things to lots of people. To many it's the home of retro-soul and even Scrimshire's own indie musings, but Paper Tiger reflect another, more urban, side to the label. This is their first release since last summer and they're back with a bang: "Come Correct" is a ska-tinged live joint boasting relentless MC work from Foreign Beggars. Fulgeance's remix turns the track into a propulsive techno-pop banger. "Sidetracked" is a dubby electro-tropical workout, remixed in a string-laden downtempo style by Archie Pelago.

Having remixed the cream of the Wah Wah 45's label, including Stac, Scrimshire and Part-Time Heroes, Paper Tiger impress hugely on their proper debut for the label. Mining a slanted, post-Dilla beat on "Priceless", dropping tropical psychedelics on "Somni Shuffle" or even some beautifully languid half-step nu-jazz on "7th Guide", the Leeds based electronic act make a hell of an impression over the five tracks of Priceless.

Taken from their album "Lightfalls", Part Time Heroes drop the mellow and languid "Done" as a single - backed by an excellent remix from Throwing Snow (responsible for one of 2011's shining highlights, "Randomer"). TS rearranges the Heroes' original over a suitably soft beat of kicks and claps and lets the pastoral original shin through via a series of rough chops and cuts.

Taken from their sophomore album Meanwhile, Part Time Heroes deliver an outstanding slice of sombre soul laced with rich organic instrumentation. A minor arpeggio that spirals deeper and deeper in somnambulant sonic bliss, this is an impeccable piece of music that will scream volumes at fans of Bonobo, Quantic, Hidden Orchestra, Submotion et al. Packaged with two delightful, more club-centric rubs and the jazzier "Heaven Won't Make Your Wish Come True", this entire release is spotless. File under both beautiful and breath-taking.

Review:
Coming back with a much-anticipated follow up to 2008's Meanwhile... album, Ross Wakefield and Toby Vane return under their Part Time Heroes vibe with this Wah Wah 45's long player - an inspiring and beautifully recorded album of orchestral soul, delicate ballads and downtempo, electronica-inspired moodscapes. Similar to hotly-tipped singer Michael Kiwanuka, Part Time Heroes employ stirring brass and gentle acoustic guitars that echo the work of Rotary Connection producer Charles Stepney on songs like "Words" or "Holy". When combined with vocalists such as Sarah Scott and Colonel Red, the results - as on "Leaving" - are quietly epic.
