Review: Kelela's Hallucinogen isn't technically a new release. In truth, all of these tunes have been out already on Warp; the first part of the release featured all the original cuts while the second focused solely on remixes. However, there's just something right about releasing them together under one roof...the timing of this thing is just right given the artist's recent touring schedule. Her style is what we would call 'SDM', or 'Seductive Dance Music', which basically means a gorgeous blend of electronica and r&b vocalism, all tied together by that unmistakable Warp charm. Fans of artists like Throwing Shade will appreciate tunes like "A Message" or "Rewind", not to mention other pearls like the lead tune "Hallucinogens". The remixes all offer different and equally enticing.

Review: UK duo Patten are responsible for some of the most most groundbreaking IDM we have heard in recent times and the last several releases they've given us on Warp have been nothing short of amazing. For their latest offering entitled "Requiem", be prepared for yet more highly sophisticated sonic warfare, starting off with the brooding and mangled epic "Amulet" before the contorted and breakneck jitter of "Zoning" gives you a good slap about the head. Finally on "Rails" and "Swarm" they serves up some deep industrial beats that'll be perfect for a modern horror film soundtrack.. or a lonely early morning pursuit by a stalker down the back streets of EC1.

Review: Bibio follows up last year's A Mineral Love album with this fresh four-tracker. While references have been made to the influence of French house on the UK producer's sound, Beyond Serious sounds more like he is re-interpreting Herbert's house sound. Working with vocalist Olivier St. Louis (Bibio's answer to Herbert's muse, Dani Siciliano?), the treated, manipulated vocal tones move in and out of glitchy rhythms on "Turn It All Down" and the swinging groove of "Fix This Thang". Like Herbert, there is also an underlying pop sensibility pervading Bibio's work, and on the wonderous "Beyond My Eyes", warm, trippy synths underpin St. Louis' soulful tones.

Review: London-based electronic duo Patten released their second album for Warp in 2016 entitled ? which served up some interesting takes on the modern electro sound. Taken from the same album is the track "Sonne" which in its original format was fierce and full frontal with its precision beats plus restrained bass pulsations. However, the Hotflush affiliated Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum delivers a much more splintered and angular take on the track here, which will have you equally impressed.

Review: Way back in 2010, Tom Jenkinson decided he'd had enough of working on his own as Squarepusher, and formed a band. The result was the Shobaleader One, an outfit seemingly inspired - in part, at least - by mask-wearing dance-pop robots Daft Punk. The album that followed, d'Demonstrator, took some of Jenkinson's influences - electro, IDM, jazz - and fused them with art-rock, synth-pop, jazz-funk and a dash of '70s psychedelia. On this belated follow-up, Jenkinson has decided to flip the script, eschewing new compositions in favour of recording 11 covers of vintage Squarepusher material. Given his involvement in both projects it's no surprise that these full-band interpretations work well. It's a smart move financially, too, as the band will be touring Europe later in the spring.

Review: Sumach Ecks aka Gonjasufi is an artist who fully represents the post-truth world that we live in. That applies to everything that he does; from his yoga instructions, to his wildly daring blends of trip-hop, noise and electronica, this is an artist who has no time for linearity and tight boundaries when it comes to his artistic expression. However, it is important to note that his sound does contain something highly personal and singular, and that is surely the reason for why this is fifth studio album for one of the most iconic independent labels in the world, London's Warp Records. Mandela Effect is not strictly all his own work and, in fact, it's made up largely of remixers and guest appearances. The producer's original excursions are retouched and twisted by some of the most influential names across the electronic and non-electronic zones; just pick from this lot: Ras G, King Britt, Daddy G, Anna Wise, and Moor Mother, among many others. Just so you get the picture, there's even a special appearance from Tony Allen, Nigeria's most sought-after drummer since the Fela Kuti era

Review: Children of Alice aren't exactly new to the scene. The outfit had appeared on the enigmatic Folklore Tapes back in 2013, but have since fallen silent. It's impressive that their follow-up happens to be a full-blown album on the mighty Warp dynasty, and particularly for being as intriguing and mesmerizing as it is. The name behind the trio moniker is a homage to Trish Keenan, who was influential in the movie adaptation of Jonathan Miller's Alice In Wonderland, back in the 60s. This album is as varied and granular as the film itself, taking inspiration from neo-classical, noise, drone, ambient, but always managing to retain a clear rhythmic thread throughout its many oddities and wayward paths. It'll appeal across the spectrum, and should surely mark the beginning of a fruitful era for the band. 5 stars.

Review: As a unit, Ali Friend, Richard Thair and David Ayers produced some of the most iconic UK dance music of the 90s. The trio have benn and still are a foundational pillar of London's mighty Warp label and, alongside the likes of Squarepusher and even the God-like presence of AFX, they will go down in history as having produced some pretty pioneering stuff. They've disbanded and regrouped several times throughout the years, and their last album for Warp came in 2000; sadly, we're not getting a new one here, but we are getting a masterfully repackaged version of their debut album, Prince Blimey. This is electronica-trip-hop-techno at its finest, blending all the best of those genres. There's moody instruments, deep basslines, psychedelic tones spewing from all angles, and a subtle hint of junglist culture. It's a timeless album and, if you haven't properly tasted it yet, we recommend you to do so. You'll wonder how you've gone on without it.

Review: There is now way that we're gonna sit here and tell you who Brian Eno is. If we did that, it would mean that we were not serious about what we do. We apologise in advance, but if you don't know who he is, then get yourself on Wikipedia and start reading! The British electronic pioneer - and veteran - is showing no signs of stopping in the second half of his career, and this new EP for London's mighty Warp is as refreshing as the very first time we heard his ambient textures. Named Reflection, this four-part release will no doubt blow you away and carry you over the clouds; it's a listening experience, and it doesn't get better than this. Mood music for the mood generation! Trust us, ENO still has it on lockdown...

Review: Nightmares on Wax main man George Evelyn cut his teeth at soul and funk all-dayers in the 1980s - he was a teenage breakdancer - before falling in love with house and techno. Both of these aspects of his heritage are reflected on Ground Floor, which he's trailed as an attempt to go back to his roots. The EP opens with the stretched-out, soulful deep house of "World Inside", which not only boasts a wonderful vocal from Andrew Ashong, but also snappy, dub-influenced rhythm patterns reminiscent of some of his early bleep productions. That aspect of his career is also referenced on "Reclaim The Balcony", a breakbeat-driven house bumper that boasts some seriously heavy sub, and electro-tinged wobbler "Dirty Triumphant", which was co-produced by Acid Mondays.

Review: The UK's Patten duo have already appeared on London's timeless Warp stable, but this latest album truly feels like their most accomplished work to date. That's because this particular style of experimentalism is full of direction, nothing is used for the sake of it, and all their sounds are perfectly balanced with another. It almost feels like a mathematical ride through the deepest, most convoluted corners of UK bass music, an aspect of these tunes that we love. Moreover, they make total sense as one whole unit of sound and, rather than being disparate slices of leftfield, they move and evolve with each other for the whole duration of the album. We won't go into details because this is music to be interpreted freely, much like the majority of this label's never-ending pit of goodness. Recommended.

Review: Stephen James Wilkinson aka Bibio has been a big part of Warp's revival since the mid 2000's, and it's no surprise given the fact that this guy is as multi-talented as he is productive behind the mixing desk. "Why So Serious" is a chilled out, hazy boogie monster with gorgeous synth accompaniment and Olivier St Louis on the vocals, while "Make Up" goes more soulful thanks to its slow beat and St Louis' sublime singing. "Stress Me Out" heads back to the LA Boulevard for a ride around with the convertible, and "Night Falls" provides the gentle sort of cool down that's perfect for a night drive. Another cracker from Wilkinson, and also from London's Warp stable.

Review: In more recent years, Mark Pritchard has moved further away from dubstep, and much closer to the smorgasbord of sounds and influences that is often referred to as 'electronica'. We don't mind the term because it gives us more room to interpret the music without any predefinitions, but "Beautiful People" is much more than that. Coming out courtesy of the mighty Warp, the tune is propelled forwards by Radiohead's Thom Yorke, where the legend's voice is perfectly infused with Pritchard's gentle Eastern chimes and tranquil beats. The whole track is a gentle walk into a far yet alluring sonic landscape, and this could well turn into a future classic. We already see it as a perfect accompaniment to a film, and if you're in the mood to totally zone out then you always have the instrumental cut to steer you further out into outer space.

Review: Sumach Ecks' music has come out primarily through Warp over the last seven years, and it's safe to say that he has become a pillar of the label's new-found success since 2010. That's because his Gonjasufi moniker is as sparse and immersive as you can possibly get in one single album. This new music on Callus might well be his best and most daring to date, where genres get mashed up and swallowed whole on every track. No one word can categorise this music better than 'leftfield'. Now, we know that doesn't tell you much, but how would you go about describing nineteen sonic experiments that manage to amalgamate noise, lo-fi, techno, and electronica? You wouldn't; you would just jump in and lap it up, which is exactly what we've done. This is our leftfield album of the week. Warmly recommended.

Review: Some 25 years after delivering his debut 12", Richard D James hasn't lost the ability to thrill or inspire. By his obtuse standards, the material that makes up the surprise Cheetah EP is actually rather laidback and melodious. "Cheetah2 (LD Spectrum)", for example, sounds like a slow house jam written by robots, while the even deeper "Cheetah7B" shuffles along in a metronomic fashion, seemingly oblivious to the increasingly aggressive World at large. Of course, those trademark skittish IDM rhythms are present and the Cornishman has thrown in a couple of hazy ambient cuts for good measure

Review: Hot on the heels of Plaid's recent Digging Remedy album comes this new EP. "Ooyu" sounds like a big band sucked down an IDM wormhole with horns, woodwind and keys lit up by electronic melodies. "Rab" and "Odica" come closer to the typical Plaid sound; the former is a jittery, rattling rhythm underscored by gentle off-beats and chopped up melodies, while the latter is an abstract workout, populated by buzzing tones. The only track that sees the UK pair flirt with convention is the deep techno of "Elevator". Supported by a soaring bass, its intricately woven web of chiming melodies would put Efdemin to shame.

Review: Despite now being 25 years into their career, Plaid duo Ed Handley and Andy Turner show no signs of showing up. If The Digging Remedy - their 11th studio set - is anything to go by, their instincts remain as sharp as ever. They've always been capable of creating magical music that contrasts experimental electronic rhythms with picturesque melodies and mood-enhancing sounds, and The Digging Remedy is full of the stuff. Intriguingly, many of the tracks seem deeper and more subdued than previous explorations, with clear ambient and neo-classical influences amongst the classic electro and IDM flavours you'll find on the album's more up-tempo moments.

Review: Warp has recently rejuvenated its infamous purple series of EP that rendered the label so enigmatic in the 1990's, and not only have they done the right thing aesthetically, but they're also picking the right artists to helm the mixing desk. This time it's a three-pronged artillery attack from Mark Pritchard, Bibio and Clark: Pritchard delivers a heady jungle rhythm with a contemporary look and feel, while Bibio's "Heath Town" is a sparse and prickly noise segment, Clark's "Inf Inf Inf Inf" prefers to remain beat-driven but genreless, perhaps best suited for the umbrella terms known as broken beat. A strong appearance form all three artists, and a fine addition to this legendary catalogue of British experimental and dance music.
