Review: Sumach Valentine aka Gonjasufi continues to display his singularly unique musical vision on MU ZZ LE, the San Diegan sometime yoga teacher's first full length LP since the stunning A Sufi & A Killer. This time round, he's turned the psychedelia up to the max, largely dispensing with his abstract influences in favour of a drowsy, hallucinogen influenced psych-pop stew. It's a good move. The sample-heavy, doped-up tracks veer from loose-limbed, jazz-flecked smokiness ("Timeout") and dub-laden fluidity ("Venom") to organ-heavy freakiness ("Rubberband") and super-distorted lo-fi reggae ("Blacksuit"), all the while coming on like the results of too many late nights flicking through long wave radio stations.

Review: Leila Arab is a fascinating producer, capable of both comforting IDM and stark, almost industrial experimentation. For the most part, U&I - her second full-length for Warp and fourth in total - sits somewhere in between. Boundaries are consistently pushed, with dark noise and break core-influenced soundscapes nestling side by side with twisted, balls-out synth-pop, mawkish industrial freakouts and impossible-to-pigeonhole oddities. There are, of course, calming moments between (see the rather lovely "In Motion Slow"), but the overriding impression is of a woman on the edge, having bucket loads of fun in the process. Fellow noise-wave knob-twiddler Mount Sims lends a hand on a few tracks, adding his distinctive vocals to Leila's futuristic, nightmarish visions. In summary: bonkers.

Surph (radio edit) - (3:24)
from $1.90
Played by: Homegroove Project
Review: Off the back of the widely lauded Glass Swords LP, Rustie peels off a prime slice of crossover potential with a radio edit of "Surph". Featuring Nightwave on vocals, it's a blindingly bright production that cuts it with the big budget chart toppers. Fusing the stacatto synth lines of trance, boogie lead lines and the chunky drum machine work of trap rap, it's as razor-sharp a production as you're ever likely to hear. All it takes is Nightwave's honey-coated (and vocodered) R&B croon to make this a serious contender for summertime radio smash.

Review: Battles have always operated at the fringes, in a place where rock and electronic music meet to get it on. On this occasion, it sounds like the chosen remixers have tipped the balance in favour of Battles's techno leanings. The Qluster version of "Dominican Fade" is closest in sound to the act's own approach, with dreamy synths spiralling to a climax against a glitchy backdrop, but it's all about the straight four/four material here. Kangding Ray's take on "Toddler" is a sumptuous dub techno groove, while Silent Servant's version of "Inchworm" is all about the humming, pulsing bass and rattling percussion.

Broken Kite Footage - (4:54)
from $1.90
Review: Chris Clark's sixth album for Warp sees him favour a distinctly pastoral approach. Tracks like "Henderson Wrench" and "Ghosted" are breathless folksy affairs, powered by acoustic guitar strumming and in the case of "Ghosted", a haunting vocal. On other occasions, Clark opts for a sweeter style as saccharine synths and mid tempo, unquantized beats vie for the listener's attention. The same kind of quirky playfulness is audible on the humming bass and break beats of "Open" or "Tooth Moves", where live drums underpin a synth that emits waspish tones. But Clark also has a reflective side and the album's highlights occur when he delivers the beautifully contemplative piano compositions "Black Stone" and the widescreen ambience of "Broken Kite Footage".

Higher Palms (Young Montana? remix) - (5:06) Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.90
Review: Hailing from Brooklyn, My Best Fiend aren't the first New York band to sig to esteemed label Warp - their friends The Hundred In The Hands are the most recent - but they do inhabit a hazy, dreamlike world of their own. "Higher Palms" serves as a taster for their forthcoming album. The track has echoes of US folk and country, but set in the kind of twilight gothic space the Cocteau Twins inhabit, with the scale of classic shoegaze. A remix is provided by highly touted beatsmith Young Montana, who transforms the track into a spiralling combination of Boards of Canada style melodies and beats that wouldn't be out of place on a Brainfeeder record.

Review: After some diverse stylistic swerves over the past few years, Squarepusher is now back in something approaching a typical style. He's moved on in some ways and kept key parts of his idiosyncratic sound intact. There's a positive split between the first half which moves around hip-hop and dubstep tempos while colliding with bombastic synth orchestrations and manic production, before "RedAand Blue" dramatically pauses the fun to open the flood gates to the Squarepusher you know and love. There's a dizzying amount of junglist attitude, sound design geekery and all out sonic terror shot through with a dark mood last found on Do You Know Squarepusher.

Review: This latest single from the Brooklyn synth pop mavens finds them weaving a gloomy tale of cavernous bombast on "Keep It Low", only for Andy Stott to get his techno mitts on it and slow the whole thing down into a slurring dubby drudge like only he can master. JD Twitch & Optimo are lighter in their approach, with some choice polite electro pulses and arpeggios. Pattern however has no interest in preserving the original as his remix scrapes away at what once remained. "Mountains" is a more spacious track that lets the usual wall of melodies soar around Eleanore Everdell's vocals.

Review: After their triumphant 2010 debut, Brooklyn boy-girl duo The Hundred In The Hands would be forgiven for succumbing to "second album syndrome" on this long awaited follow-up. That they don't is testament to their immense talents. Musically, Red Night shifts slightly from their previous output, but retains strong elements of dream-pop, avant-garde alt-rock and Walls-ish wall-of-sound electrinonica. This is best exemplified on the brilliant title track, which pits Eleanor Everdell's dreamy vocals against formidably dubbed-out atmospherics. Elsewhere, there are nods to New York's post-punk past ("Come With Me") and big, near-anthemic singalongs ("Keep It Low"), giving Red Night a formidably well-rounded feel.

Review: Having firmly established himself as one of the foremost experimental producers of the past decade with albums like Replica, Returnal, and Rifts, Daniel Lopatin here makes the logical move to electronic music bastion Warp Records. On first listen R Plus Seven is quite unlike any of his other records, largely eschewing the arpeggiated drones of his early work and sample-based collages of his last album for something much more vivid. Coming across like a combination of the emotive minimalism of Terry Riley and Steve Reich, and the hyperreality of James Ferraro's Far Side Virtual, R Plus Seven nevertheless stakes its own claim in the world of post-everything electronic music, combining delicate, introspective moods with shocking moments of recognisable sonic signification. Quite possibly Lopatin's best album to date.

Review: London-based singer/producer Kwesi Sey has previously impressed with his woozy, dreamlike fusions of soft-centred soul and experimental electronica, releasing a string of acclaimed singles and EPs on Young Turks and Warp. Here, he delivers his debut album, an extended exploration of his fragile, dewy-eyed sound. It's an impressive set, slickly moving between string-laden lo-fi R&B ("Hives"), atmospheric experimentalism (the intense but beautiful "Chagall"), James Blake-ish eccentricity ("Parakeet") and leftfield dancefloor pressure ("B Shf L"). Sey clearly has talent; on the strength of LLP, expect to hear much more from him in coming years.

Review: Off the back of their blossoming indie-electronica sophomore LP Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, Mount Kimbie undergo the remix treatment from three well-equipped and idiosyncratic artists. First up Kyle Hall brings the Detroit grit but balances it with his sensitivity towards UK concerns for an uptempo version of "You Took Your Time". DJ Koze brings a more tender kind of 4/4 full of esoteric melodic flourishes and the stark original vocal on "Made To Stray", and Lee Gamble rips it all up with his own aquatic blur of "You Took Your Time" that lets the drums fall muddily and the synths strain against a wall of sonic fluff, with fantastic end results.
