Review:
It's difficult to make dance music with 'real' instruments, as so many second rate punk funk acts have proved, but Miami proves to be an anomaly. BBF have taken inspiration from jazz influences for this album, which makes for an adventurous, at times breathless work. At one end of the spectrum there's the seductive piano lines and soaring woodwind of the title track and "Miami Titles", while at the other there's the high tempo, syncopated rhythms and deranged brass of "Skiffle It Up" and "Broken Pieces", which features a contribution from Jamie Lidell. Another contributor, Nina Kraviz, helps to turn the air blue on the abrasive "Verwahrlosung", but in the main, Miami is a work inspired by warm sea breezes and ice cold cocktails.

Review:
Friedman and Liebezeit are back with the fifth instalment of the Secret Rhythms series. It's all about gnarly percussion and sultry, ethnic harmonics with this pair, and "240-11" is one of those wacky drum arrangements that only these two can conjure. The same goes for the rest of the LP: "130-11" breaks its drum pattern entirely to create a jittery, heads-down number; "105-09" goes on a sort of middle-eastern hip-hop flex with its rattling percussion and mystical acoustics; whilst "120-12" certainly pays homage to the dub school at which these two have certainly studied and passed with flying colours. Another essential release from these two great minds - avoid at your peril...

Review:
The ultra-magnetic, ultra-talented trio, Factory Floor, team up with Peter Gordon for their second release on the sublime Optimo Music. Gordon is one of those guys who can play just about anything and "Beachcombing" is one of those sultry synth rides that'll leave your brain melted on the side of the subwoofer - aided herein by the additional contributions of Gabriel Gurnsey and Nik Kolk Void - now that's a package! The ride is majestic as it is dark and mysterious, with waves of polyphony wrapped all over its ominous and crumbling arrangement - a marvel! "C Side" features Dominic Butler and takes a slightly lighter approach to things, combining a crooked half-step slant to more cheery pastures - a field of sax melodies and cascading synth bleeps! CHECK!
