Review: An Ambassador For Laing sees the Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander further explore their new sound as Dalhous, having previously surfaced with film score influenced gothic pop under the Young Hunting moniker. As Dalhous, the pair has traded in the Young Hunting sound which perhaps sounded a bit too close to Blackest Ever Black label mates Raime for an approach more explicitly concerned with lurching industrial rhythms and sweeping orchestral vistas. Across the eleven tracks on the album, Dalhous explore soundscapes that feel dreamlike yet there's always a sensation matters could take a wholly more foreboding turn at any moment. Standout moments include the bristling instrumental beats of "Who's Here You're Here I'm Here..." and the hazed out finger snaps of "The Cruel Practice Of Art". Overall the album marks another compelling entrant into the Blackest Ever Black canon.

Gordon is one of those guys who can play just about anything and "Beachcombing" is one of those sultry synth rides that'll leave your brain melted on the side of the subwoofer - aided herein by the additional contributions of Gabriel Gurnsey and Nik Kolk Void - now that's a package! The ride is majestic as it is dark and mysterious, with waves of polyphony wrapped all over its ominous and crumbling arrangement - a marvel! "C Side" features Dominic Butler and takes a slightly lighter approach to things, combining a crooked half-step slant to more cheery pastures - a field of sax melodies and cascading synth bleeps! Review: Making for a matching with hard-to-imagine results, Mala gets the remix treatment from James Blake in his Harmonimix guise and issues it forth on his own Deep Medi imprint. It's a bold treatment from Blake, who teases the track to life on a twee arrangement of music box chimes and tones, while a central vocal coos out the dominant melody. There's a mid-section with the only discernible slither of beat which sounds like familiar Blake territory, not least through the bluesy keys vibe that it carries. However, it's the monolithic brass-aping clarion call which comes steaming in to steal the show, trumping out its orders in a suitably epic fashion which is nothing if not rousing.

Review: Flitting around many sturdy and well-regarded underground institutions such as Olde English Spelling Bee and Black Dirt, this latest release for Stellar OM Source may well be her biggest move yet, signing up to the expansive plains of Rvng Intl, and sparring with the inimitable Kassem Mosse in the remix department. "Elite Excel" is a wondrous excursion propelled on submerged drum machine rhythm firing off in an urgent breakbeat, while psychedelic strands of synth dart around the mix before a more prominent main riff manages to come pealing through the mists and give the track some emotional gusto. It's the perfect jump-off point for someone like Kassem Mosse, who get slow and sizzling on his version with a glorious mural of melodic twists and turns while keeping the mechanical funk of his machines whirring constantly.

Review: Marking the beginning of the Cleaning Tapes label, Helical Scans brings together an impressive array of characters from the known to the partly known to the barely known at all, sometimes associated with the fringes of house and techno but more enamoured with noise and texture. There are some beautiful, delicate moments here such as from Huerco S and Bantam Lions, whilst in other places the sonic matter is a little more rough. Sagat brings the most discernible beat on "sigh", yet still the atmospherics and adventurous nature of the track take precedent. It's a good thing too, as you're left with a compilation of diverse and consistently interesting electronica from a host of names you can get to know better, which is what 'various artist' releases should be all about.

Review: Some two years after his last LP, Bibio is back with Warp unfurling more of his tape-warped wisdom for those more reflective moments in your life. It's a mellow affair at nearly every turn, from the distant shoegaze malaise of "Dye The Water Green" to the purposefully MOR folk of "Raincoat", but there's still some cheeky fun to be had in between the more introverted spells on Silver Wilkinson. For example "You" gets busy with radio-busting vocal and orchestral snippets with an end result that feels compatible with the more imaginative corners of mainstream hip hop and R&B production. Really though, listening to Bibio is all about getting wrapped up in the pastoral dreamworld he inhabits, where songs can be songs, singers can be singers and sound sources can come from anywhere.
