For Cambio Wechsel, the third studio album released by Kelpe, we witness the UK producer making a sharp departure from his more postulant earlier offerings as he draws confidently from the world of hip-hop, electronica and prog-rock.
Opening with the grinding slowburn of “Decompression Introduction” the album digresses into big, epic melodies and huge basslines that surge with what sounds something like a 21st century equivalent of psychadelica.
The most memorable moments are “After Gold’s” acoustic guitar seeped in lazy percussion, while “Microscope Contents” reinvents classic electro into something infinitely more bold and ambitious. Cambio Weschel marks a clear progression from the warped narratives and unsubtle stoccatos of Kelpe’s past, as he demonstrates his musical evolution with both innovation and confidence.
