Featured DJ Chart: Richie Balboa

by Juno Plus on 28.01.2010 at 14:04pm

Breakbeat don Richie Balboa already knocks out the odd mix for Juno, which we think is rather good. It seems we’re not alone in thinking that either – it’s been nominated for Best Podcast in the 2010 Breakspoll awards (vote here).  With such a talented man on our team, we thought we’d rope him in for a featured chart too. Here are his top picks for January – enjoy…

Featured DJ Chart: Richie Balboa (January 2010)

1. Mr No Hands – The Chit Chats (Air Recordings)

“Widely accepted as one of the most talented young producers on the breakbeat scene, Mr No Hands delivers another one of his trademark dance floor monsters. This original and energetic number will be tearing up the clubs for a long time to come.”

2. Myagi/The Root Sellers – Rock One (Zero B vs Utah Saints remis) (Westway)

“From one of the biggest labels in Breaks (Westway) and one of dance music’s most original artists (The Utah Saints) expectations are high, but this remix undoubtedly lives up to that. Big beats, sweet hooks and catchy vocals all combine in this club slammer.”

3. Enough Weapons – Supersonic (Eshericks Remix) (Ape Music)

“This aptly titled track is a complete slammer. Big bass and heavy synths combine perfectly. Eshericks has really exploded onto the scene in 2009 and with tracks like this it’s not hard to figure out why.”

4. Johnny Dangerously – Return To Planet Rock (Freakin USA)

“Awesome synths in this track and it has been one of those that people keep asking me about. This track really takes you on a journey, big props to this American DJ-cum-producer-cum-promoter!”

5. Afghan Headspin – Cocaine (Gella’s rather have a tablet remix) (Valium)

“One of the most interesting and original breaks remixes of the last 12 months, the sounds and arrangement have really beengetting the scene talking. Gella’s on fire at the moment and this remix has certainly been one of the sparks.”
