The future of one of London’s most famous nightspots is under threat, Music Week reports.

The Ministry Of Sound in Elephant and Castle is fighting against a new development that it says will threaten the entertainment license of its South London club.

Ministry says that the future of its venue has been put in doubt following a planning application by property developer Oakmayne, for a development across the road.

Ministry of Sound CEO Lohan Presencer expressed concern about claims that Oakmayne CEO Christopher Allen allegedly remarked that “nightclubs come and go”.

The company has submitted plans for a residential building, which, if approved, could threaten the club’s entertainment licence and force it to close.

Presencer is quoted in the Music Week story as saying:  “These developers have cut corners at every stage and counter to their claims, they do not have the best interests of the local community at heart. We must do everything in our power to save our club and our business.”

Several legendary London clubs have closed in recent years, including The End, Turnmills and Herbal.
